| Mr. Master07-07-06, 05:45 AM | Can I apply the luck bonus to the caster's level checks, such as the one to dispel magic or the overcome the spell resistance? If so, and if this bonus was put in an unslotted item, should I apply the price reduction usually applied to similar bonuses? Or do I have to consider the 2 bonuses as completely different (one is used to dispel, the other to overcome sr) and, therefore, I don't have to apply any price reduction? Similar bonuses +2 luck bonus to caster's level check to dispel = 4 x 2500 x 2 = 20000 GP +2 luck bonus to caster's level check to overcome sr = 4 x 2500 x 2 -25% = 15000 GP total cost = 35000 GP Different bonuses +2 luck bonus to caster's level check to dispel = 4 x 2500 x 2 = 20000 GP +2 luck bonus to caster's level check to overcome sr = 4 x 2500 x 2 = 20000 GP total cost = 40000 GP PS=I play with 3.0 |

| tarkin07-07-06, 10:40 AM | If we are talking about a Stone of Good Luck, the answer is No. "Luck" is a descriptor. It can be applied to anything. It is like saying "Insight Bonus" The source of the bonus tells you what you can apply it to. For example, True Strike says you get a +20 Insight bonus to hit. While other pells/effects can grant Insight bonus to a Knowledge check, that particular spell does not do that, so you can't cast True Strike and get +20 to your Knowledge (The Planes) check. Similarly, the mere fact that something is a Luck bonus does not tell us whether you can apply it to a caster level check. You need to tell us what the thing that gave you the luck bonus is. |

| Mr. Master07-07-06, 03:57 PM | I was thinking about a luck bonus because luck is a passepartout. With luck you can do everything and succeed in everything.Everything. Of course a dodge bonus can't be applied to caster's level checks, but a luck bonus...well,it can be applied to everything. Moreover, since I haven't found anything concerning bonuses to caster's levels checks,I picked up the most expensive bonus,in order to avoid to create a too powerful item. As for the item,is pretty similar to a Staff of Power, but I changed the +2 luck bonus to AC and saving throws with a +2 luck bonus to caster's level checks to overcome spell resistance and to dispel magic. Now,what I want to know is: 1)can I apply a bonus to caster's level checks (whether they are for overcoming spell resistance or to dispel magic) or these are checks that can't be empowered (in fact,I haven't found any item that gives you such bonuses...)? 2)if so,are this bonuses of the same kind, hence allowing me to apply the -25% price reduction for similar powers/bonuses in unslotted items? Thank you. :) |

Orange Ioun Stone gives +1 caster level (I think, could be other color) You might want to look at that for the price. |
