| Barlo12-20-06, 12:19 AM | Arcane fusion (complete mage) is a 5th lvl spell that allows a 4th lvl or lower spell and a 1st lvl spell to be cast using only the standard action needed to cast arcane fusion. Greater arcane fusion works the same way, but the limitations are a 7th lvl or lower spell and a 4th lvl or lower spell. When casting greater arcane fusion, can arcane fusion be used in the place of 7th lvl or lower spell slot allowing for two 4th lvl or lower spells (the one remaining from greater arcane fusion, and the one granted by arcane fusion) and a 1st lvl spell (granted from arcane fusion) to be cast with a single standard action. There's no errata for complete mage yet, so i don't know what the official ruling is, but there is no explicit rules stated in either of the spell descriptions saying otherwise. Me and my DM are at a disagreement, and as of now, I am unable to use it the way it is described above, until an official ruling stating one way or ther other is made. I am completely fine with my DM's ruling, he is the DM, but i just wanted others' opinions into the matter. |
| Animae_Draconum12-20-06, 02:31 AM | Just for curiosity, what exactly was your intention with casting the 2 fusions together? It will yield two 4th level or lower spells and one first level spell at the cost of an 8th level spell slot Why does your DM have such a problem with this? IMHO the 8th level spell slot is going to be far more powerful in terms of effects with the exception of one very degenerate combo I am very fond of... A_D |

A_D could you possibly be talking about: GAF 2 celerities 2 GAF 4 Celerities 4 GAF 8 Celerities etc? =p |
| Barlo12-20-06, 02:54 AM | could you possibly be talking about: GAF 2 celerities 2 GAF 4 Celerities 4 GAF 8 Celerities etc? =p I hadn't thought about that combo. I was just wondering if the mechanics would allow for such an occurance, so that if i did come up with a devious enough combo, i would be able to use it. Again, still waiting for the Official Errata to be posted. My DM basically made a DM ruling that it wasn't allowed. Generally he is a fairly lenient (sp?) DM, so when HE says something is too powerful, i tend not to argue. He did give a line of reasoning siting the spell combo AF from GAF was too similar to putting a Spell Matrix inside of another Spell Matrix and that there were previous rules about not being able to cast such a combo. Thanks for the help guys. |
| Animae_Draconum12-20-06, 03:13 AM | YES!!!! MY BELOVED COMBO!!! You'll still need a way to be immune to the daze effect of celerity, I recommend the feat Mark of the Dauntless from Dragonmarked But the spell matrix thing is just illogical to even use as an argument they start as 5th 7th and 9th level spells so storing a 5th level spell as a 3rd level spell just doesn't make sense. But my DM ruled that the CeleriFusion trick puts my character into a comatose state for 1 day per completed greater arcane fusion cycle beyond the first and that my character ages magically 3d6 years. This is the House Ruled drawback for channeling all the arcane power my character is capable of through my body in 6 seconds A_D |

I used it while invisible to cast 8 twinned shivering touches. i was invisible and didn't reallize they coudl see me so i didn't bother to cast defensively. needless to say i took enough attacks of opportunity to go down in one round lol. it was horrible. this was an epic game btw, which makes me thinking they couldn't see me even more stupid. and prompted me to get a way to cast them as ray spells =p |
