| The_Dark_One10-26-04, 02:02 AM | Could you, theoretically, cast Continual Flame on a liquid? I'm not saying that I'm playing a gnome sorcerer and this is the start of an elaborate prank or anything. I'm totally innocent. Also, if this is possible, what would happen if someone drank the burning "potion". Sounds like someone would be having "fun" in the not-too-distant future. :mymy: :weep: :mymy: :smirk:  |
| Someone10-26-04, 02:45 AM | "why does it burn when I pee?" Technicly, yeah, I think you could. But unless you had a glass mug, or had it filled to the brim (so the "flame" would rise above the rim), it would only be a vertical flashlight. As for consuming it, as its not a "real" flame and doesn't give off heat or use up oxygen, you could consume it without a problem. Except for a glow-in-the-dark chamber pot. Or tree trunk. Or yellow snow. Or enemy's grave. Or... I'll stop now. |
| Duvanok10-26-04, 02:53 AM | Since it has to be cast on a touched "object" I would say no, as liquid really isn't an object and what would happen if the liquid was poured out. . . You could cast it on the mug though, or whatever is holding the liquid. |
| The_Dark_One10-26-04, 02:59 AM | Well, you could freeze the liquid, then cast the spell on the ice cube, which would be an object... I'm pretty sure you would have glowing liquid when it melted... "You can have this Potion of Dragon Breath for the paltry sum of one gold piece" :D  A harmless prank on the greedy and stupid or a minor act of evil? |
| Dracoulis The Phyrexian10-26-04, 03:11 AM | Things to consider: 1. A body is at most places definitely thick enough to prevent light from escaping. No glowing people. 2. The liquid that comes out isn't exactly the same liquid that goes in. Arguably, the spell ends if the object is irrepairably destroyed (which digestion would certainly qualify as). As such, no glowing urine. |

"You can have this Potion of Dragon Breath for the paltry sum of one gold piece" :D  A harmless prank on the greedy and stupid or a minor act of evil? Uh, actually the joke would be on you, because you spent at least 50 gp casting continual flame. All you're doing is cheating someone out of 1 gp. And you just lost 49 gp doing it. Wow. |
| The_Dark_One10-26-04, 03:31 AM | Well, its not really about the money. I was kinda hoping for the whole "Oh god, its on fire" glowing urine thing. Its more about humiliating the victim (er, I mean teaching a lost soul a valuable life lesson) than it is about cheating someone out of one lousy gold piece. A good laugh at someone else's expense is easily worth 50 :D gold. |
| deanaw10-26-04, 03:51 AM | Just cast Shadow Evocation - no gp cost, 20% of the fun. :) |
| smrtgmp10-26-04, 05:36 AM | I would allow it. Its not like it would be mechanically abusive in any way. |
| tarkin10-26-04, 11:20 AM | It is not mechanical abusive. But it is clearly against the rules. The rules state that damaging an item destroys any magical properties it has, whether they come from a spell or a magic item creation feat. If you consider the beer as a hole to be be enchanted, then seperating it into two groups would cancel the magic. If you instead call just a single drop of beer the target, then the acid in your stomache definitely damages the beer. However, Prestidigiation could definitely do what the person hear wants to do. |
| The BO10-26-04, 12:15 PM | I would rule, that the whole beer burns like a torch, but only parts of it will glow less... so once you're "done" with the beer, most of it in your veins, you have the effect of yellow glowing .... ehhh... dog markers. oh, and of course you seem a little "brighter" |
| Gold Katana10-26-04, 12:19 PM | I would allow the beer to flame. It would continue to do so if poured out. Taken in the mouth. As the level dropped, so would the flame. Actually swallowing the beer (or even holding it in your mouth too long) would cause the flame to go out. If you actually want someone's urine to flame, you'll have to do the spell and go touch it. |
| Arindor10-26-04, 01:30 PM | If the intent was to make fire urine, then for 50 gp rules or no rules, I would say go ahead. We all would laugh and life would move on. No harm done. If the intent was to split the liquid up to make smaller continual flame liquids I would say the liquid was destroyed. |
