Casting Cure Out of combat [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-18-06, 04:23 PM I was playing in a pick up game at a convention and during the course of the session, one of the PCs cast cure moderate wounds on himself and the player stated that since the party was out of combat he didn't need to roll and could heal for maximum hit points. He didn't have the maximize spell feat and when I asked him how he did that, he claimed it was in the RAW, but couldn't show me.

Is there any truth to this?

The only truth is that no one at the table stopped him. He probably knew no one would call him on it. There is zero support for this in the rules.

10-18-06, 05:06 PM Yeah, your player pulled a fast one. You can't do that. Heh, I wish you could. It would make wands of CLW worth way more than they already are (and they're the cheapest core healing items in the game, on a gp per everage points healed basis. The only better downtime healing wand is a wand of lesser vigor, because it heals 11 points of damage, always, but it does so over time).
