If the tittle is confusing you here is the actual explination.

I was thinking of making an evil assimer cleric. There is a feat in the Races of Faurn book I belive that gives you protection from evil 3/day as a spell like ability and also bless. But my questions regarding this are:

1) Can I even cast Protection from Evil since it is a spell like ability? Even though it says that clerics can't cast spells of opposite alignment?

2) If you can cast the spell, would it work for me or against me since I would be evil?

3.) Would my alignment bend towards good since I'm using a good spell?

I'm just curious as I'd like some protection just in case one of my party members turns on me for one reason or another and if we fight any evil aligned creatures.

As far as I remeber I thought the protection from evil just hurts the evil people who attack you. Just because you are evil and you are facing evil character does not men you are all on the same team.

I would say it would work the same way even if a god cleric was using the spell

You *can* use the special ability.
You *cannot* cast the spell. You deity will not grant a [good] spell to an Evil cleric. However, I suspect this would be easily houseruled as such:

1. Good clerics cannot cast [evil] spells.
2. Good deities will not grant [evil] spells.
3. Evil can do whatever the hell it wants.

It should be noted that a Good Cleric can still cast Protection from Good, provided that he also has Wizard spells. Casting an arcane version of 'Protection from Good' is perfectly decent.

Mind you, casting such a spell is so obviously a perverse and unholy act that any Good Deity would turn his anger to the Good Cleric casting such a spell, having that Cleric's spells stop working and preventing her from advancing further in the Cleric Class. ;)

a spell-like ability is not a spell; it does not fall victim to a cleric's alignment restrictions.

the spell would still work for you, as long as you dont attack yourself. :P
