When casting the spell scrying, the rules for the spell state that you can cast certain spells through the scrying connection:

As with all divination (scrying) spells, the sensor has your full visual acuity, including any magical effects. In addition, the following spells have a 5% chance per caster level of operating through the sensor: detect chaos, detect evil, detect good, detect law, detect magic, and message.

So there's a chance the spell operates through the sensor. Does this mean that during each casting of scrying...
* there is a chance of all listed spells operating (one check for all, once)?
* each of these spells has a chance of operating (one check per spell)?
* each time you cast one of the listed spells there is a chance of that spell operating (one check per casting of each spell attempted)?

I'm inclined to think it's the latter of the three. It's the simplest way to handle things, and it doesn't hamper the spell so severely. As a matter of opinion, it also seems to honor the spirit of the rule best, I think.

Thoughts? Any official work out there that I haven't found?

One check per casting. That's how these things always work.
