just a quick question, can you cast spells with sword and a shield in hands?

Not spells that have an S component, unless that shield was a buckler or a shield gauntlet.

Or you use the new somatic weaponry feat from the complete mage!! You can basically use your weapon, or any item in fact, for the somatic component of a spell.

Yeah baby, shameless plug!

You could sheathe your weapon as a move action, cast the spell, then use quickdraw to draw your weapon again as a free action.:)

The afore mentioned shield guantless is the cheapest solution, provided you want to use a heavy shield.
