Hey folks,

Just wanted to ask about something. This past weekend my group was going along and they were trying to Teleport somewhere and they were being Scryed (they knew it). I didn't want them to Teleport so I said that the Teleport was dispelled, and they tried to use a Unicorn to Teleport as well, but I said that the Unicorn Anchored.

Now.. My quesiton is... Can you cast spells through Divination spells? If so, can you please tell me the spells that allow this? I'm not able to find them, but I believe I have seen such spells before.

Some of the divination spells allow you to cast a limited number of spells but none of them are terribly offensive, and certainly nothing along the lines of dispell.

Ok... I know this is probably going to prove that I don't know alot, but in the WoSQ series, Grumph and like 5 or 6 other mages cast offensive spells through a Scrying Crystal ball. How is that possible? I just wondered.

These spells can work thru scrying: detect chaos, detect evil, detect good, detect law, detect magic, message, read magic, and tongues.

(Greater is guaranteed, regular has a 5% chance per caster level of operating)

You cannot cast offensive spells thru a cyrstal ball as far as the rules go. The novels take many liberties with the rules.

Teleport can't be dispelled, as it is instantaneous, it could be counterspelled.

A mage could cast greater invisibility on himself and then project image to cast spells at range, but even then the added range is only Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level).

There are a couple greater versions of the Crystal Ball magic item that have somewhat more offensive powers (detect thoughts & suggestion) that can be used through the scrying effect, so there is at least some core-rules basis for having offensive effects be cast through scrying. There's no real reason why you could not create a custom magic item that had other, more offensive powers available, as well.

You can't cast attack spells through the standard Scrying spells. You can use scrying spells to cast spells at targets at great ranges, though depending on the spell.

You can use the spell Gate(and other gate-like spells) to a place you want and cast spells through it.

i'd sat Grumph was casting his spells through a Gateway spell(like gate, but only travel within one plane). The crystal ball could even have this quality(custom magic item, of course).

Perhaps some kind of artifact. But then again, in the first place, they might not have known they had been scried, if it had been such level of power.

The standard DMG item Mirror of Mental Prowess is an example of a scrying item that can open a "gate" to the area allowing any sort of spell to be cast through.
