Because it's an area effect all creatures within range are affected. This means that a caster of level 3 or lower will always get caught in their own spell and are denied the "single target bonus". Casters of higher levels will still have to aim the spell more than 30ft away to avoid same. Is there any way around this? It seems rather silly to deny this boon since once the caster can work around it, better spells are available anyway. |
