Causal Clarification gives you brief but exact information about the cause of some nonmagical effect just witnessed. Causal Clarification must be cast in responce to experiencing some effect to which the cause is unknown, and must be cast no later than the end of the round following the effect. This effect can be detected by any one of your senses but must be witnessed in some manner by you first hand, it can not be relayed to you by someone else.
ex. Your party is walking through the forest when out of the blue an arrow hits your friend from behind. You cast causal clarification and learn that the arrow was fired from a group of orcs hiding behind a log 200ft behind you.
ex. Your creeping in a dungeon and come to a large pool of water. From the center of the pool something suddenly bubbles up. after casting Casual clarification you know it was just swamp gas.

What do you think the level of this spell should be

Hummmmm. This spell realy depends on the 'type' of game the DM runs. I see theas two types. 1.The DM just blurts out all the information in game and tells the players everything..giving the game a more 'players wathing a movie' kind of feel'. This DM would get out information that the characters would not have, per say. 2.The Dm keeps everything very tight lipped, the players only get the information that there characters can directly see.

Now in a type 1 game, the Dm tells you everything....and that kinda makes this spell useless. And in a type 2 game the players have to figure things out for themselfs...and this spell offers a cheat.

In any case, if this spell is over say 0-level, is a bit of a waste of a slot. Typicaly in a game, players will encounter lots of unknown stuff. How inportant is it to know everything? And what is the point if you don't get it in contex or a full does of information.

Take the orc example-You learn 'orcs over there shot the arrow'. Are they attacking? hunting? Aiming for a target? Taking random shots into the woods?
And the swamp gas? I'm not sure most folks worry about this type of window dressing.

So in the end I'd keep this a 0 level spell.
