Can anyone offer some insight into how the heck this armor is designed or created or anything? I spent the day trying to come up with similar numbers and got nowhere. It's like the designers pulled this armor directly out of their... erm... ear, or something. Anyway, I have a character who wants to add an ability to his armor, but I don't know what kind of pricing to charge him nor how much improvement I will allow. The closest price it sits to on the list is +5 armor, but that doesn't mean that is accurate. Thanks for any help.

The Celestial Armor in the DMG is a Specific Armor. The Specific Armors and Weapons aren't really drawn up on the same lines as regular magic items.

Hmmm, not to seem ungrateful for the response, but I sort of figured that but was hoping that there might be some way to break it down a little or point out where it varies from the norm. Perhaps just others' opinion on how to adjudicate improving celestial armor. Sorry that I didn't make that clear initially, and thanks for the response.

I also have another related question.

The acid resistant ability costs 18.000 gp, but I can't found the enhacement equivalent bonus (+1,+2,+3) for that ability.

how can I calculate the how many powers can I add to an armor with that abiliti??

Well starting with the basics its +3 chainmail, but is definetly not really chainmail going by the stats. That being said I think the armor is a little too cheap for what it gives because of the dex bonus combined with the armor bonus. To answer your question the armors enhancement bonus is +3 and the fly once per day is like a wondrous item effect (unslotted) so its effectively +3 armor.

To answer the above poster their is no + to the armor its just a set price.

Generally you don't hijack another person's thread. :) But in answer to your question, abilities that cost a straight gp amount do not "cost" enhancement bonuses. You can add as many of those enchantments as you have gp. The only abilities that you'll calculate according to the enhancement bonus method are those that list an enhancement bonus. Hope that makes sense.

Can anyone offer some insight into how the heck this armor is designed or created or anything? As best as I can figure, it follows the following breakdown:
+3 chainmail (9,000gp)
mithral (+4,000gp)
fly 1/day, CL 5, command word (+5,400gp)
+4 max Dex (+4,000gp)
Total cost: 22,400gp The armor only has a +3 bonus for the purpose of adding additional enhancements.
