Once a character reaches level 20 spell acquisition ceases through class gains, does this mean that if one were to start a prestige class that over laped level 20 and meant a character would not make full spell levels before Epic progression began that that character would then be denied every reaching maximum spell levels? I could find no reference to this problem in either DMG, Players, or XPH. Any help for my Cerebromancer would be appreciated as she is looking at choosing between, 9th for spells, 7th for powers, 7th for spells, 9th for powers, or 8th for both. Im happy to loose out on one as this is the price for being this Prestige class, but if I were to take a level of cleric at 22nd level do I gain spells? If so why can I not continue in the classes I had before hand, Im sure Im just missing something.

Thanks for any help

I'm not sure, but I think spell progression only ceases after the CLASS level reaches level 20, not the character level.

Basically, if you take class levels in a non-epic class while you have an epic character level, you gain all benefits of the non-epic class with the exception of saves and base attack bonus.

In addition, if you have free bonus feats from the class (e.g. fighter or wizard bonus feats), by the Epic SRD, although not the FAQ, you may select bonus feats from the epic list for that class, even though it is your character level, not your class level, that is epic (many regard this as a mistake: I suppose it's DM discretion).
