| Karn Dragonsbane11-04-06, 09:02 AM | (OOC: This is a thread made to discuss in-character OOC stuff. Metagame, if you will. The topic is magical item construction. If you donīt feel comfortable talking in-character, you can talk OOC as well. If you donīt like the topic but you feel up to some in-character, crash in at will. Enter, donīt knock!) In a small room at the Guild of Ultimate Evil, a conaisseur about magical items starts an epic quest... Is he up to the task? A purple, horned, massive bull furry, wearing a tabard with symbols that speak of destruction and force, enters the room. His name is Chahl, and his job is to push the limits of creation beyond what has the world ever dreamed of. Perhaps heīll learn something in the way? Chahl walks up to a screen and draws down a poster... The poster has a picture of a green inverted triangle with a yellow one inside, inverted again. -Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chahlīs workshop, transmitting from the Guild of Ultimate Evil. Reverse-engineer said transmission to scry upon the Guild of Ultimate Evil, and Iīll squeeze your neck until your hair drips dye. Of another color. -If by some reason Wujizah Panzermanathod is reading this, I want to give you credit for teaching me that colored letters can be combined with boldface. -And today, weīre going to start by the standard selection of magical items. Which means, by the way, those out of splatbooks. For those of you too honest to know what a splatbook is, refer to Metagamma 101, available in your nearbiest guild library. Or ask your mommy, I donīt know. -Weīll start by the armor. Chahl draws down another poster... This one contains various pictures of armor. -Starting, of course, by ommiting the ones that have a market price defined by an enhancement plus. Several "Booo!"s. -Hmph. If you will... Iīll do my best to explain everything. Chahl draws down another poster, containing two pictures of a shield. -Weīll start by Arrow Catching (+1) and Arrow Deflection (+2). Those effects are based off the spells entropic shield (Sor/Wiz 1, Luck 1) and shield (Sor/Wiz 1), AKA forcefield. The first spell originally provides partial concealment against ranged attacks, a defense of about 20% to be exact. Although it doesnīt do anything the likes of diverting shots or granting a deflection bonus, 20% traslates to about +4. Except for the fact that itīs more of 1d20+4 for a DC of 21, actually... Whatever, a bonus is a bonus. So does it seem, at least. Drawing another poster, with a picture of a shield and an arrow veering off... -As for Arrow Deflection, (+2) based off shield... well, shield provides a +4 bonus to AC as per a tower shield. It doesnīt provide the other effects of a tower shield, but when made into an actual shield, it loses the +4 bonus to AC as it gets subsumed into the new shield, so other effects, including near complete cover, are approvable. Near complete cover in a tower shield would basically mean rejecting all of your attacks, though... I suppose we call that "balance"... *sigh* As another way to see it, we could imagine that it grants a bonus feat, which has two prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike and Dexterity 13. Dexterity 13 could be emulated as a +2 to dexterity, minus the effects of a +2 to dexterity, for the price of a +1 to dexterity, and Improved Unarmed Strike... the closest similar I can imagine is a locked gauntlet. A gauntlet allows you to do damage, and the lock will stop people from disarming you. As for the fact that taking your gauntlets off is harder than taking your arms off, Iīd say itīs a mere matter of cruelty. If someone really doesnīt want you to hit anything, in a situation where he can take your gauntlets off he can most likely take your arms off as well, limited only by his cruelty and your potential utility in his eyes. Draws another poster, this one containing the image of a metallic tiger superimposed over an armored man, taking a club attack for him. -Letīs get now to Animated (+2). Animated (+2) has the prerequisite of the animate objects (Bard 6, Chaos 6, Clr 6) spell, although the actual effect is more like a minor version of Girallonīs blessing (??? 2). An extra arm, kind of... the nearest effect I can think of is the hand of glory, a minor magical item that allows an extra ring. Although that power isnīt to be too overestimated; the hand itself consumes a necklace slot, so youīre basically trading a necklace slot for a ring slot. Its other powers are nothing too impressive... Sorry, I think I derailed. Okay, it might be fine at +2. Draws another poster, this one with the image of a star fading as it approaches a shield. Spell Resistance (+1-5). This one is an interesting case... Spell Resistance is such a powerful quality, it has to be fractionated into five different levels because they just donīt want to admit itīs useless to put into armor. Itīs darn too costly at any point worth a damn, unless youīre too afraid of the paladin or some half-assed dumbo casting, I donīt know... Holy Smite (Good 4)? Ah, right, I forgot, he canīt! Heīs not got the spell in his repertoire, paladins donīt have access to domains! Perhaps Mark of Justice (Clr 5, Pal 4), or Dispel Magic (Brd 3, Clr 3, Drd 4, Magic 3, Pal 3, Sor/Wiz 3)...? Oh, not subject to Spell Resistance... except for Mark of Justice, which youīll bring down your spell resistance willingly if you want to live! Or wait... do you think theyīll let you keep your shiny armor while you are cursed? Feh. It sucks, admit it, even knowing that the Paladin isnīt the only one with half-assed caster level. Perhaps if youīre fighting a TON of low-level spellcasters, like thirty or forty (dozens), none important enough, and all of them armed with scrolls of Magic Missile (Sor/Wiz 1)... Perhaps then, perhaps then. But ONLY then... SR 19 can be bypassed by a merely 1st level caster 15% of the time, and itīs the strongest, for the same price that you pay for immunity to critical hits. The next poster has the image of a person recoiling from a shield. -Blinding. About 15 (6-24) seconds of blindness for foes around you... as per searing light, the prerequisite, I donīt know what does it have to do with blindness. Two times per day... and a low save DC. Yes, perhaps itīs fine as it is. And the next one has the image of a person smiling as he is hit in the shoulder with a club. -Fortification, light. (+1) Nothing to compare it to, except for threat ranges... Even the thickest threat range doesnīt pass 15-20, six possibilities. But itīs not the standard, not in the very least. So Iīll say the maximum threat range to consider is 17-20, the one for a keen longsword. Light fortification means, like, one point. One point for attack, one point for defense, is worth still a single point. The next one has the image of a man with a horned shield, smashing into a wall. -Bashing (+1). Honestly I believe the prerequisite bullīs strength is wrong, by a dozen orders of magnitude at least. The prerequisite Iīd approve of is enlarge, or similars... What do I know. Two size increases, still sub par damage... Feh. The next poster contains the image of a man in a tuxedo, blocking a sword blow with his kidney area. -Hey, look, itīs Kev! Whatever. Glamered (+2,7 k gp). I can hardly believe thereīs anything cheaper or more useless... The spell it is based off is disguise self (Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1, Trickery 1) The price is 1,8 k gp x1 (caster level) x1 (spell level) x1,5 (duration is 10 min./level, shifted into continuous). The next one shows images of people with several kinds of armor, doing several feats of legerdemain and stealth. -Slick, Shadow, Silent (+3,75 k gp), armor only. RIGHT ON. Itīs a +5 bonus... 5x5x100 gp = 2.500 gp, x1,5 for rather close to unrelated power. It could be unrelated (you donīt lose armor for hiding), but itīs rather close to related (if you are stupid enough to try to hide while you need armor, probably neither one will help you.) Prerequisites are grease, invisibility, silence. Honestly, I believe Shadow isnīt so useful... an armor that maintained invisibility except for when you attack would be more cost-effective, and would provide more, much more hiding bonus. The rest of the prices are 15 k gp, 10x10x100 gp = 10.000 gp, x1,5 for rather close to unrelated. Or 15x15x100 gp = 22.500 gp, x1,5 for 37.500 gp. The next one shows a man withstanding a flame and charging to its source. -This is a WizO... sorry about the bad joke. Energy Resistance. (+18.000 gp). God knows how was it calculated. Perhaps a matter of resist energy (Clr 2, Drd 2, Fire 3, Pal 2, Rgr 1, Sor/Wiz 2), considered to be a 2nd level spell. 2 (spell level) x 1,5 (base duration multiplier) x 3 (minimum caster level) = 9, x2.000 gp for continuous. 18.000 gp for total. Greater and Improved are similar, with caster level 7 for improved and caster level 11 for greater. The following poster shows a man stabbed by a woman from behind and a ghost from before. -Yep, gals be like that. Ghost Touch (+3 bonus). I really donīt get it, I donīt get it at all. Perhaps if we double-check etherealness... Wit which Iīve noticed it is a 9th level spell, while the caster level for the item is 15th. What do you think? This looks like it was felt more than calculated. Next poster: a man withstanding a club blow with his chest. -Medium fortification... (+3). Like light fortification, except for three times as thick. Next poster: a woman wading through an horde of soldiers, having wiped out what seems like half of it. -Invulnerability (+3), armor only... now weīre getting somewhere. DR 5/magic, for the price of a +3 bonus, or 15.000 gp out if 16.000 (minimum price). How could a petite stoneskin (Drd 5, Earth 6, Sor/Wiz 4, Strength 4) get to cost 15.000 gp is nothing I can imagine... perhaps because of the other prerequisite, wish or miracle (Sor/Wiz 9 or Clr 9, Luck 9), because to me itīs either a miracle or just wishful thinking. The poster that comes after is a bear inside a turtle shell. -Wild(+3). Whoa, never thought such an useful quality would be appliable only to the most useless armor. Except for dragonhide, which can allow you to make a fullplate that you can wear and also use this quality. Even then, dragonhide should be more special... No, I do not approve of it. Perhaps it is a +3 bonus because of its 9th caster level for baleful polymorph? The poster after that shows a robed and armored figure with armor made of bone. -Undead controlling (+49.000 gp). Basically, 1/day control undead (Sor/Wiz 7), CL 13, considered continuous because of the daywhole duration, so it is applied both the 1/day and continuous modifiers. It would be like 7x13x2.000 gp x2 x1/4... 91.000 gp. Perhaps the continuous factor was unapplied. Even then, the price would be 45.500 gp, unless we raise the caster level by 1 point. Typo, anyone? The poster aftr that shows an armored, yet frail-looking elf withstanding a club blow in his crotch with a smile and a wink. -That didnīt hurt, lemmeassure you... Ghk... Natural 20 in the craft (painting) check, dude... it really got to me and Iīm lawful evil, dangit. Heavy fortification (+5 bonus). As the old fortifications, but it has the added bonus of being totally safe, so to speak. Perfection has its price. And the last one shows a wizard disintegrating in a beam of green light reflected in a silvery shield. -Reflecting (+5), shield only, and there we end with the generic armor. Reflecting is 1/day a slightly more powerful spell turning (Luck 7, Magic 7, Sor/Wiz 7) spell, which would be like 7x13 /4 x2.000 gp. Worth a nice 45.500 gp with that criteria, which goes a slight bit above budget than expected. I suppose it might get cheap somehow. |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-04-06, 09:05 AM | Taking all scrolling posters together, Chahl dumps them in a black leather bag. Thatīs it for armor properties. Now letīs deconstruct specific defenses. So he puts a new roll of posters, and rolls down the first one. Itīs a man of the forest in a dull gray vest. -Adamantine breastplate. A real classic... 200 gp for the breastplate, 10.000 gp for the adamantine. Next poster is a dragon, no, itīs a man, no... perhaps a half-dragon? -No, itīs a druid! Itīs Druid-MAAAN! Feh, whatever. Dragonhide plate, 3.300 gp. Double the cost of masterwork. A masterwork full plate is worth 1.650 gp, it seems. Next poster: a guy in a silver shirt. -Wonder where did the guy buy the dye for his shirt. Ah, mithral shirt. 1.100 gp. 100 gp for the shirt, 1.000 gp for the mithral. Strange; a shirt worth 2 pounds of gold? Perhaps this economy IS broken after all. Next poster: an elven maid donning a violet full body armor... -Iīm no specialist, but sheīsh HAWT! Elven chain, anyway. Nothing special about it; 4.000 gp for the mithral, 150 gp for the chain, feh. Next poster: a man with a rhinoceros superimposed, charging. -Rhino hide! At last weīre getting somewhere, dangit! 5.165 gp, and undercosted I say! First, itīs a masterwork hide armor. 165 gp. Then itīs +2 armor. 4.000 gp. And finally, it seems 2d6 damage every charge is worth 1.000 gp... no, wait, HALF of that! After all, itīs unrelated! But no one seems to pay any attention to that. Or, going by squares, each 1d6 damage to a chargeīs worth the total square x 250 gp. Hey, 20d6 damage for each charge, how much would it cost? Like... 400x250 gp is 100.000 gp! Being a wizard sucks now! Next poster: a dwarf in dull gray, full armor. -The empire strikes back, swamp model. Dwarven plate: the most there is in bland stuff. Full plate, adamantine. 1.500 gp for the full plate, 15.000 gp for the adamantine. Next poster: A man in a bejeweled banded plate, rolling a pair of dice with a foolish grin on his mouth. An armor is a terrible thing to waste. Banded mail of luck, or bejeweled +3 banded mail with special power. 18.900 gp. 1.000 gp for the jewels, 250 gp for the banded mail, 150 gp for the enchant-ability, and the rest is 17.500 gp. Substract 9.000 gp for the +3, and weīre down to 8.500 gp. Usable once per week, so I guess its price would round the 59.500 gp if it was once per day (such a power is too much to allow to use once per round). Got a reroll, but when in doubt, add it to our incognitos. Next poster: an angel in chainmail. I wonder what does his flesh taste like. Celestial armor, or God Likes To Screw Us Over. 22.400 gp; 150 gp for the chain, 150 gp for the enchantability. 22.100 gp remaining. Also itīs +3 armor; 9.000 gp less. 13.100 gp. Once per day it allows a fly (Sor/Wiz 3, Travel 3) spell, caster level 5th, I suppose. 5x3x1/4x1.800 gp= 6.750 gp. Unquestionably unrelated, itīs worth 13.500 gp. I wonīt start a scandal for 400 gp more or less, thank you. However strange, it has a maximum dexterity bonus of +8, and an arcane spell failure of 15%. And... it can be worn under normal clothes without betraying its presence. Thatīs what we call "good being overpowered" when weīre sad. It is possible that the ability doesnīt increase its cost even though itīs unquestionably unrelated, so 6.350 gp would be the price of increasing the max dexterity bonus by +6 and decreasing the arcane spell failure by 15%. God knows how. Next poster: a swimming knight. Sink, sink, sink, sink like a stone. Plate armor of the deep, another messy thingy. To start up... 24.650 gp minus the 2.650 gp for masterwork full plate +1 is 22.000 gp. Fortunately, Water Breathing is the same level for everyone: 3rd level. 3x5x0.5x2.000 gp (the duration is greater than 1 hour/level), or 15.000 gp. Aquaman no jutsu seems to be there for free, and the part where you are considered to be unarmored... Well, either ONE of them is worth 7.000 gp, or both together are. The prereqs... tongues and freedom of movement both would cost more than the armor itself each. Next poster: Well, this one, except with a breastplate. Daring. Breastplate of command. 25.400 gp, 400 of which are breastplate and 4.000 of which are +2. The rest of its abilities seem to derive as a +4 enhancement bonus to charisma, except it is of another nature... which costs, by the by, exactly 21/16 of what it should. Perhaps 3/2 and then 7/8, because of the limitation due to the armorīs looks required to work... Next poster: A knight on silvery armor, running. -And swoop-hoo. Mithral Full Plate of Speed. Would you believe me if I told you I wasnīt impressed? Anyway. 26.150 gp minus 9.150 gp for the mithral full plate, minus 1.000 gp for the +1. 16.000 gp is the price for a 10-rounds of haste/day. 2/day haste CL 5? Okay. Or 1/day haste CL 10? It seems to me more like CL 5, because the armor is CL 5. Thatīd be 3 x5 x1/3 x2.000 gp. But itīs just 10.000 gp! Whatīs missing? Next poster: A pit fiend...? -I like this one. Demon armor. Hehehe... 52.260 gp. +4 full plate, masterwork. Thtīs 17.650 gp already out, 34610 remaining. It has two +1 weapons built-in, for a price of +4.610 gp (counting the masterwork component and assuming the price for those weapons was 5 gp each). That leaves us with 30.000 gp for the contagion and evilness. Evilness is for free. Contagion, I shall assume was made as a cleric spell because itīs cheaper. 3x5x2.000 gp is 30.000 gp. However, that assumes a contagion cast before every blow, and a contagion on every blow, not every round the caster devotes to casting contagion. Anyway, I hope it works out for you. -Thanks everyone for listening. So far, we have the following incognitos. -Hows of the blinding shield. -Hows of the arrow catching shield. -Why so costly the mithral full plate of speed? -How was the plate armor of the deep designed? -How was the celestial armor designed? -How much does it cost to make an ability 1/week? -How can the demon armor operate its contagion if itīs not quickened? Although, we got the following. -2d6 to every charge costs 1.000 gp. -If anyone can shed light into those subjects, weīre more than thankful. This is all for today... or not. |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-04-06, 09:06 AM | Chahl takes the new bundle away, and drops it on the bag. Then he takes another set of scrolling posters. Swords time. I dislike swords, but whatever. He pulls down a poster. It contains a sword, a hammer, a flail and a battleaxe. -Anarchic, Axiomatic, Holy and Unholy (+2). Ungodlily, those four thingies are almost the same thing, as much as an orthodox evil person like me is loath to admit. Two extra die of damage, applied to 1/3 of your potential foes. Two dice, itīs better than two points, and approximately it will be about 7 points. Divide by three, for a total of seven thirds. BUT, you will, unless youīre some kind of berserk ass, and even then, your foes will most likely share a certain alignment component. And itīs not multiplied on a critical hit... besides it has a prerequisite, since a negative level for a 1st level character is certain death, Iīd say itīs enough as to make it worth only +2. Next poster is a dragon falling from the air. -Bane (+1), Karn Dragons. This one is a true pain in the ass, literally. My ass still hurts from the last time... anyway, what it does is add a +2 bonus and two dice of damage. No prerequisites, but this time you got one out of thirty-one and counting possibilities to use it. So itīs like +9/31... 1/3, but since there is always a certain tendency, itīs much, much better than 1/3. +1īs fair. Next poster shows an arrow entering a tower from a higher place, which is offscreen. -Distance (+1). Worth a damn, perhaps even noticing. The first long-range spell I know of is Melfīs acid arrow (Sor/Wiz 2), but at long-range, to keep a relation, itīs still worth nothing. Next poster shows a man blocking an arrow with a knife. -Defending (+1). Both its prerequisites, shield (Sor/Wiz 1) and shield of faith (Clr 1) are quite similar, except shield of faith provides a rarer kind of bonus, and in a smaller amount at first. I prefer shield, honestly... Anyway, the cost to keep either of them operating would be 3.000 gp. And a defending weapon will rarely ever bring your AC even near what one of those spells would do for you, so itīs alright. Kind of pricy, though; a +1 weapon is worth 2000 gp, a +1 + (property +1) weapon is worth 8000 gp. A hundred twenty pounds of gold difference... While a hyperactive shieldīs worth only 3000 gp. Next poster shows four different weapons. -Flaming, Icy, Shock and Thundering (+1). Whereīs my acid? 1d6 points of damage which donīt multiply. Average 3 points, wonīt multiply on crits. Assuming a weapon that will crit one of every four hits, youīre hitting at 12 points per five times your damage. 12/5, divide by 2 because it wonīt apply to attack rolls. 12/10, and be lenient. Next poster shows a guy stumbling to a tree, with so many arrows in his back, he looks like the hedgehog on the opposite side of the tree. -Merciful (+1), or not quite. Three extra points of damage, and all of it becomes a certain kind. Since almost everything worth noting has immunity to that kind of damage, you are losing your time... I assure you the property will stay supressed most of the time. Getting knocked out is kind of sick, but you can get a lot more bang for the buck, I swear. So itīs +1 because thereīs no less. Next poster shows a guy running away from a spread of several kinds of items. -Throwing (+1). You want throwing? Go ask your wife to come with you to the dungeon, and be gentleman enough to carry the kitchen. First noise, chuckinī time. Get yourself a bow, foī crying out loud, and stop disarming yourself. No cheaper because there isnīt any. Next poster: a guy running away from an arrow. -Seeking (+1). Ignores concealment. I pity da fooī who conceals himself, hehehe... But itīs whinny īnuff to think of it as the least. Next poster: a guy attacking a portrait. -Touchč, buddy! Ghost touch (+1). As per those others, itīs just a take out miss chance thingy. Not much stronger than a seeking arrow. Next poster: a guy in heavy armor, running away from a flying axe. -Thatīs what we call idiot, people. Returning (+1). Just as good as I dunno what, the idea is so alien... The following roll scrolls down like the others, revealing a sword that shines in the moonlight. -Whoīs the sucker with the moonlight fetish? Feh. Keen (+1). As good as improved critical, as good as keen edge (Sor/Wiz 3), as good as getting yourself something with more effective crits. +1īs okay, I jess, although a scabbard of keen edges is a better choice anyhow. No, itīs undercosted, seriously undercosted. Keen edge is at hasteīs level, although it lasts 600 times more. The following roll shows an orc with an axe, cutting past three soldiers with one blow. -I should get myself one as well. Mighty cleaving (+1). Again, only +1 because it canīt cost any less. The next roll is a person sitting crosslegged with his arms spread on the air and eyes closed, with a dagger in his lap. -I gotta kill the graphic designer. Ki Focus (+1). Again, I donīt have to tell you. The next roll contains a sword exploding in a fireball. -Dude. That gotta hurt. Spell Storing (+1). Contains one spell of 3rd level or lower. I got no idea how it was calculated. The following poster contains a pair of armored men with purple-shining swords. -Vicious (+1). God knows how it was calculated. The following poster contains four swords in shiny auras. -Great. Energy burst (+2), in three different flavors. Cold, electricity and fire. There wasnīt acid, now thereīs not even sonic. Now it multiplies on a critical... donīt be lenient anymore. The next poster has a hammer shining green. -Cheap. Disruption (+2). A chance for undead to die again, if they fail their worst save. Having no constitution isnīt good all the time, huh? Undercosted, Iīd say, but those suckers donīt really have all that many hit points. The next poster shows a bloody corpse and someone holding a sword down to its neck. -Like heavy fortification, it really gets to me. Wounding (+2). Really, really deadly. Iīd say itīs undercosted, but well... The next poster shows a man shredding another one to ribbons with two daggers. -Booyakha! Speed (+3). I suppose it comes from haste (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 3), which is a 3rd level spell, but whatever... The next poster shows an armored man drilled all the way to the other side, with a hilt stuck on his torso. -Thereīs something cheapo. Brilliant Energy (+4). No armor bonus applies to your attacks. If monsters wore armor, you could bypass like 13 points of armor... Else, youīre going to get about eight to ten points... Iīd say more likely eight, since a +4 enhancement bonus would be +4 to attack and +4 to damage, so letīs shift the focus from damage to attack. The next poster shows three swords attacking a man. -Fa-la-la-la. Dancing (+4). If you have a backup weapon, you could get even more attacks. Worth +4, god knows why... An animated shield costs much less for a similar effect, but I guess offense has to be costlier than defense. The next poster shows a guy cutting off another oneīs head. -Jackpot! Vorpal (+5). Jabberwockīs in trouble... did you read "Alice through the mirror"? Itīs a nice book, nice book. But whatever. Good luck if you get pit against one of those... and son of a b**** if you got one. +5 just because thereīs no pricier. |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-04-06, 09:06 AM | Chahl takes all of the scrolls and drops them on a bag. Then he takes another bundle. -This is just starting to get fun, buddies. Letīs start breaking down stuff. Chahl pulls down a scrolling poster, another one... īTill he finds a curved dagger. -Adamantine battleaxe, adamantine dagger... Ah, here it is! Assasinīs dagger (18.302 gp). A +2 dagger, provides a +1 bonus to your save DC for death attack if youīre an assasin. We both know already a +1 bonus to a class feature save DC costs 10.000 gp. Or we do now. The next poster is a black dagger with a serrated edge. -Alright, darlings. Dagger of venom (8.302 gp). Basically the price of a spell storing dagger, refills itself once per day for free. So, tell me... What level is poison (Drd 3, Clr 4)? Usually, a spell is based on its cleric/wizard caster level, yet here it was calculated as a druid... and totally lenient at that! Spell level 3, Caster level 5 (item), use-activated, once per day. That costs at least 6.000 gp. But wait! Poisonīs save DC is special! Itīs 10 + 1/2 caster level + wisdom modifier. Minimum wisdom modifier, minimum caster level, the save DC should be 13. Lenient, lenient, lenient. The next poster has a dwarf with a hammer. -Yes, the hammerīs gonna throw a dwarf. Dwarven Thrower (60.312 gp). Consider it at its most, being able to manifest a certain amount of power at most doesnīt reduce price. Itīs a +3 throwing returning hammer... with 10.000 gp more. 2d8 more damage when chucked, it now costs 10.000 gp. The next poster shows a hydra superimposed on a sword. -Pyrohydra, actually. Flame tongue (20.715 gp). 315 gp from sword. 20.400 gp, used like this. A +3 weapon costs 18.000 gp, and since the ray is a standard action, itīs an unrelated power. You canīt attack with the sword on the same turn you shoot. Whatever, 4.800 gp for the beam... Iīd say itīs like a 1st level spell, not scaling by caster level. And since itīs once per day, it should cost like 24.000 gp. First level spell, twelfth caster level, itīs okay... the rayīs not subject to spell resistance or saves. The next poster shows a sword inside a glacier. -Brrr... Frost Brand (54.475 gp). 350 gp from sword, 54.125 gp remaining. +3 frost costs 32.000 gp, so there are 22.125 gp remaining. Shedding light as a torch, I suppose it would be like a continual flame... 50 gp ruby dust, 280 gp spell, but it doesnīt scale, so itīs like 100 gp. Be lenient, I donīt want decimals in my meal. Letīs say itīs a total of 125 gp. The rest would be 22.000 gp, strangely; resistance to fire 10 is worth 18.000 gp, and operates even while youīre attacking, and just being able to use Quench once per round at caster level 14 is worth more than the entire sword. The next poster shows a sword in a cross. -Looks kind of eeevil... Holy Avenger (120.630 gp). Iīd say itīs more like priceless, but whatever floats the boat. First it costs 8.330 gp for the enchanted cold iron, then it costs 98.000 gp for the holy +5 sword. And then it costs a lot more, a real lot more... Even if we decided the construction price was reduced by the paladin levels required to start it up, it would cost... I assume that a spell trigger item usable forever is worth 750 gp x spell level x caster level, and in this case, itīs worth much less. At minimum caster level, because the user will provide it... Spell Resistance is worth 2.250 x 5 (minimum), and Greater Dispel Magic is 4.500 gp x 11 (minimum). Itīs still very little for whatīs left of the sword. Good is overpowered. *Sigh* The next poster is a guy in a chariot, wielding an amber spear. -Spear of lightning (1.500 gp). We play god so you donīt have to. Itīs a use-activated lightning bolt, I donīt see what makes it a weapon. CL 5 x SL 3 x single use (50 gp) is 750 gp... Overpriced. The next poster is a greataxe, wielded by a really pale guy. -Life-drinker (40.320 gp). 320 gp for the masterwork axe, 2.000 gp for the +1ness, 38.000 gp for the enervating effect. Which would roughly translate to... Well, I have no idea. Itīs done with each blow, which is MORE than just use-activated. So, 38.000 gp to affect someone with half max a 4th level spell effect, for the little price of just being affected by it too. The next poster is a guy rolling dice. -The same guy from before? Two dozen posters later heīs still here? Whatever... Luck Blade (142.960 - gp). Contains up to three wishes, and two other powers. We shall consider it with no wishes, or 22.060 gp. 310 gp for the masterwork shortsword, 2.500 gp for the rare kind of save bonus, and 19.250 other gp. That was what itīs worth a reroll per day, huh? The next poster is a dwarf destroying a golem. -Nice hammer, dude. Mace of Smiting (75.312 gp). This oneīs a toughie. Itīs a +3 adamantine heavy mace, +5 against constructs. Basically itīs a +3 adamantine heavy mace of constructīs bane... or a +4 (32.000 gp) adamantine heavy mace (3.012 gp), with the added power of destroying them in a crit. And, it deals x4 instead of x2 criticals against outsiders. Both things together cost 40.000 gp (I consider the other 300 a typo). Now I wish I knew which was which. The next poster is a robed figure wielding a mace of dark steel. -Mace of Terror (38.552 gp). Itīs a +2 (8.000 gp) heavy mace (312 gp), with a 3/day fear (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 4) ability, on command. Since the save DC is 16, it was obviously designed as a sorcerer/wizard created item. 4 (spell level)x 900 (3 command words per day) x caster level, worth a total of 30.240 gp. So the caster level would be... like 8,4. Strange. The next poster is a plain longsword, the next one is a very special sword. -Nine lives stealer (23.057 gp). Nice longsword, dude. +2 longsword, to start with... 8.315 gp down, 14742 to go. 1638 gp per charge of doom... which functions emulating a 7th level spell, finger of death (Drd 8, Sor/Wiz 7). 234 between all other modifiers. The caster level is 13th, so this thingyīs worth CL x SL x 18 gp / charge. How was the use-activated charge price reduced from 50 to 18 is nothing I can imagine... The next poster is a bow, which seems angry. -Oathbow (25.600 gp), the swearing bow. Itīs always **** and [censored], and still on and on and on. First of all, itīs a masterwork composite longbow with a +2 strength bonus. 600 gp already, so we know the rest of the stuff is worth 25.000 gp. It looks rather like a +3 longbow of sworn enemyīs bane to me, reduced in price because itīs not as effective as it should. So, halfway between a +3 weapon and a +4 one, itīs worth 18.000 gp (+3 weapon) plus 32.000 gp (+4 weapon) divided by 2 (itīs a single weapon). The next poster has a rapier full of blood. -Rapier of puncturing (50.320 gp). Acts as a +4 (+2 +puncturing) weapon, worth 32.000 gp, and may drain more blood than usual on a hit if decided by the user. Such an attack is worth 18.000 gp, it seems... Itīd be worth somehow 90.000 gp, if it was usable at will. The prerequisite is harm... I donīt get it. The next poster has a bolt with a funny face screaming. -Huzzah! Screaming bolt (267 gp). Thereīs a +2 bolt that screams when fired. Itīs 1/50 of a +2 weapon, 8.300 gp for a +2 masterwork, and 10 or 5 gp for ten five-bolt carts, or 8.310 gp divided by 50. 166,2 gp for the bolt... and another on for the scream. I suppose the screamīs worth 100 gp... Which, for violent people like me, would mean that one of our lifeīs interrogants has been solved. How much is a scream worth? Anyway, the thingīs got a DC 14 will save, so itīs a 3rd level spell. 3x5x20 gp is more than that, Iīm afraid... So itīs worth 1/3 of what it should. The next poster has a sword and a broken rock. -Donīt do this at home, kids. Shatterspike (4.315 gp). The construction price states itīs 2.315 gp and 160 XP; nothing too impressive. 315 gp go for the longsword, which just shows how f**ked is this economy, since four pounds of iron and a sharpened shape are worth 15/50 of a pound of gold. Not to mention the masterwork component, worth six pounds of gold. The thingīs worth more than its weight in gold! Whatever... Shatterspike has a +3 bonus to sunder attempts to-hit and damage. And itīs worth 2.000 gp past the first 2.000 gp for the +1 weapon. The next poster has a two-handed sword, and nothing more. -Paranoid about shapes, eh? Shifterīs sorrow (12.780 gp). 600 gp go for the masterwork component of a two-bladed, twice masterwork sword, made of cold iron costs 200 gp. Still, it was worth 6.780 gp and 480 XP to create... Which means the masterwork and cold iron component was worth 780 gp somehow... Perhaps self-made discounts? 3.0 to 3.5 corrections...? Anyway. This is basically two weapons, costing a nice 12.000 gp for special abilities. 6.000 gp for each blade, and theyīre just +1 weapons. Perhaps it was +2/+2 related, for 8.000 and 4.000? They seem to me like a +1 weapon of shapechanger subtypeīs bane... Whatever. You could say that shapechangerīs bane is a new property, or just say that +4.000 gp can get you the +2d6 without the +2, for an incomplete subtypeīs bane property, except for that shapechangers are affected according to their subtype, returning to their original forms, when struck, previous Will save DC 15. The next poster has a silvery dagger... -Silver dagger, masterwork (322 gp). Any questions and Iīll punch you in the face. The next poster has an arrow and a series of creatures of different sizes and shapes standing against a measuring wall, as in a police recognition round or page 12 of the PHB. -Itīs the guy on the middle. Slaying arrow (2.282 gp). Doom, doom, doom... DC 20 indicates a 7th level spell, just as Finger of death (Drd 8, Sor/Wiz 7). Cool... Use-activated weapon, single use... 7x13x50 gp, or 4550 gp. I donīt know... letīs use the XP to indicate it. 91 xp means 2275 gp. Seventh level spell, /7, 325 gp. And divided by thirteen, itīs 25 gp. Weirdly, 25 gp is the price for a spell completion item, not an use-activated one. As for the greater slaying arrow (4.057 gp). Doom, doom, DOOM! DC 23, a 9th level spell. 162 XP, so 4.050 gp are for the power. The seven gp remaining are 6 for masterwork (300/50) and one is for good measure. 4050/9= 450. 450/25= 18. Caster level is off by 1/17 from the minimum, base price is off by a decimal order of magnitude. The next poster has a bear sleeping with an arrow stuck in his... -ASS! I could say it at last! Oh, sorry, you were watching... Anyway. Sleep arrow (132 gp). 5 XP for the arrow, 125 gp for the base price. 2000/50 = 40 gp. 85 gp for the rest. Iīd say that 50 gp is okay for the thingy, Sleep (Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1) is a 1st level spell which doesnīt scale up with caster level. And 35 gp might be enough for the nonlethality... The next poster has a shiny sword. -Okay. Sun Blade (50.335 gp). Cutely enough, 2000 XP means that there are just 335 gp of bastard sword in the mix. That makes my theoretizing easier. It functions as a +2 sword (8.000 gp), but against some foes *coughusevilguyscough* it functions as a +4 sword... Thereīs a property that accomplishes that, but it also should deal 2d6 extra points and bestow a negative level on some users. ARF, power has a cost, we should know! Partially good, Iīd say itīs the same price... no extra 2d6, no required alignment to survive. WAIT, it DOES have a required alignment! Itīs okay! We can replace the extra 2d6 for double damage against critical-immune creatures, and an extra dose of kick-ass against those unlucky enough to just hail from the source of Entropy! The +4 is worth 32.000 gp, and a related power (since you canīt attack and use the sword at the same time... that sounded weird, didnīt it?) dealing a Sunlight is worth... The prerequisite is daylight (Brd 3, Clr 3, Drd 3, Pal 3, Sor/Wiz 3) and its effect is the same, dumbed down to uselessness... Iīd price it at 3rd level spell, 5th caster level... No real scale-up, unless you want to swing your sword above your head for about an hour. So it gets to be like 3x5x2.000x1/2x0.2, or 3000 gp. Seems we canīt replace the 2d6 for double damage, can we? Itīs like it was 35.000 gp and 15.000 gp for double damage against a certain type and subtype. Letīs start rockinī! The next poster shows a dark sword. -Lovely, ainīt it? Sword of life stealing (25.715 gp). Impressive... 315 gp for a longsword, a theft, I say! Six pounds of gold for a longsword? SIX PO... Forget it. 25.400 gp, actually... Although the XP cost shows a price of 25.725 gp as ideal... Nevermind... A +2 longsword is worth 8.000 gp. So 17.400 gp is the rest. 17.400 gp divided by 2... 8.700 gp. Itīs worth more than the longsword itself, the price must be 25.400 gp - 16.000 gp, or 9.400 gp. You deal damage and drain a level on the same blow... 9.400 gp is the price for draining a level on a critical hit, and gaining 1d6 hp for it. At last weīre getting somewhere for real! The next poster shows a sword, or two, or three...? This oneīs a beau. Sword of the Planes (22.315 gp). 315 gp for the sword, again the XP cost says it should cost 22.325 gp. Rounding? I donīt think so... Whatever. 22.000 gp for a +4 longsword working half-assed. 32.000 gp/22.000 gp is 1,(45). Or, wait... itīs off. It should be 22/32, not viceversa. x0.6875 ... I recall having once calculated that number, but not how. The next poster shows a dull gray sword. -Dullity and grayness are the trademark of adamantine as far as I am concerned.-Sword of Subtlety (22.310 gp). 310 gp are for the sword, no oneīs gonna take that from me. Itīs a +1 shortsword, 2.000 gp, so +4 on attack and damage but ONLY in sneak attacks, costs 20.000 gp. Assuming usual squaring and rooting, itīs 1.250 gp per bonus squared. Or if you think the +1 adds even then, you could consider it a +5 weapon... 20.000/25 = 800 gp. The next poster shows a scimitar with... greenish rust? -Green wasnīt gold rust? Wait, did gold rust? Sylvan Scimitar (47.315 gp). 315 gp for the masterwork, 18.000 gp for the +3, and now, a temperate climate and outdoorsness provides you with the Cleave feat and 1d6 extra damage for 29.000 gp. The next poster shows a trident with a scale motif. -Aquaman should carry a spare power. Trident of Fish Command (18.650 gp). A +1 trident is worth 2.000 gp, a *cough* mastheftwork *COUGH*. XP is right on spot. So itīs worth reminding people that XP cost is incurred by the enchantment and not the item. Anyway. 16.335 gp for the rest... A 3/day 4th level spell (DC 16) affecting 14 HD worth of animals... Okay, this just screams caster level 7th, which is exactly the tridentīs caster level. 3x4x7x1800/2 = 25.200 gp. Somethingīs cheap here... Aquatic subtype isnīt so powerful, perhaps it would be worth reducing to 1/2 price. 12.600 gp, which doesnīt truly fill the bag. No, Iīm as lost as a baby in the woods with this baby. The next poster shows a trident with a shiny core. -WARNING. WARNING. WARNING.Trident of warning (10.115 gp). Itīs otherwise a +2 trident, so it SCREAMS itīs unrelated. 8.315 gp. 1.800 gp for the rest? Somethingīs cheap here. Or perhaps the +2 trident is unrelated... 5957,5 gp, still too cheap. And the spell is blocked by running water! Thanks everyone for listening. Before we go on, can you solve any interrogants, or propose new ones? Incognitos about weapons: -How does the rapier of puncturing work? -How exactly the mace of terror gets that caster level? -Whatīs up with the mace of smiting? -Why so pricy the javelin of lightning? -How does the lifedrinker get its calculus? -How can you get the dagger of venom for free? -How can the frost brand be so cheap? -Exactly what the heck cheapens up the trident of warning? -What the heck is up with the price of the trident of fish command? Yet, we got the following: -Increasing a weaponīs damage by 2d8 costs 10.000 gp. At least when chucked. -Granting Cleave and 1d6 extra points of damage costs 29.000 gp. -Draining a level on a crit is worth 9.400 gp. -Double damage against a specific type (and a related kind of creature). is worth 15.000 gp. -Nonlethal damage on ammo is worth 35 gp apiece. -An extra +3 on attack and damage during a tactical maneuver is worth 2.000 gp. -4.000 gp will give you +2d6 damage against a specific type and let you throw them back to their real form. -19.250 gp will grant you one reroll per day. |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-04-06, 09:07 AM | The bullkin drops the bundles in a bag, and puts another set. If you thought this was fun, get ready for the rings. Iīm no Saruman, but Iīd love to make one someday. For that special someone, you know. Nothing beats forging a ring with your own hands, I suppose. The first poster scrolls down a woman caressing a lion. -How about a bull, honey? Animal friendship (10.800 gp). Big mistake by an order of magnitude. Command word first level spell at third caster level is worth 5.400 gp. Sixth, perhaps? And why exactly third caster level? Druidical caster level required is 1st. The next poster shows an armored man, except only the upper half is visible. -Blinking (27.000 gp). On command, it makes you blink. I donīt need help blinking, actually, and hardly have I met somebody who needs help blinking. But thereīs a 3rd level spell that does that! Iīd not trade the ability to blink for the ability to cast fireball (Sor/Wiz 3), not much less, though. 7th level just to prevent you from having to say the magic word once and again and again and again. 27.000 gp, 3rd level spell, 9000 gp, command word, 5. It should be 5th caster level! But nevermind. A command word is a free action, right? The next poster he pulls down reveals a suspicious-looking woman. -Chameleon power (12.700 gp). Disguise self, nonscaling spell, costs 2.700 gp for continuous and command word. Donīt ask me how is that possible, I didnīt create one. As for the competence bonus to hide checks, competence boni are worth square bonus (100) x 100 gp, or 10.000 gp. It fits, yet it seems dragged by the head. The next poster shows a few rings. -Climbing, Improved Climbing, Jumping, Improved Jumping, Swimming, Improved Swimming, (2.500 or 10.000 gp). Already provided even in the SRD, I donīt have to even bother. Oh, okay, I will. 5x5 (bonus squared) x100 gp (competence to skill), or 10x10 x100 gp again. The next poster shows a black ring and a white ring. -One of them despises the other. Ring of counterspells (4.000 gp). It would seem that a 6th level spell at 11th caster level, usable once, but forever... as weird as it sounds, I know, is worth 6 (SL)x 11 (CL) x 50 (Use-activated, single use) x 2 (usually, spells have a x2 when continuous), no. I donīt have any idea, actually. The next poster shows a man on his knees, rubbing a ring. -Itīs the OTHER ring. Ring of Djinni Calling (125.000 gp). Hehehe... Iīd say that this ring is essentially a continuous planar binding (Sor/Wiz 6), but that would mean a price of about 6x11x2000x1/2(continuous), or a mere 66.000 gp. This is worth FAR more... itīs almost like made to screw us up. But I found a cheaper way... and it includes the possibility of binding an efreet! HD under 12 is both 7 HD and 10 HD. The next poster shows four rings, each a band of a pure element. -Oh agony, you come from my bounds. Elemental command (200.000 gp). This is going to hurt me, isnīt it? Look, I wonīt even try. The next poster he pulls down shows a man surviving a dragonīs breath. This is a bit less macabre. Energy resistance (12.000, 28.000 and 44.000 gp). Spell level 2, caster level either 3, 7 or 11. The multiplier (1.5) for being a spell with a duration of 10 min./level has been forgotten. The next poster he pulls down shows a woman avoiding entirely a dragonīs breath. Okay. Evasion (25.000 gp). A class feature costs 25.000 gp? I donīt have any idea. The following poster has a troll falling into a cushion. -Lucky ass. Feather falling (2.200 gp). Couldīve been use-activated and saved 200 gp, mustīve got to do something with level and balance. The following posterīs got a shield. -Kewl. Force Shield (8.000 gp). Sub par and useless. Get yourself something that just keeps a shield (Sor/Wiz 1) on you, itīs cheaper and provides you with two extra points of AC and immunity to magic missiles. The following poster has a ring with a wavy and loose motif. -Thoseīre great for... you know. Freedom of movement (40.000 gp). Freedom of movement (Brd 4, Clr 4, Drd 4, Luck 4, Rgr 4) is a spell whose level Iīm gonna let you guess. A clue? 2+2=? Yeah, that. A 4th level spell has a minimum caster level of 7, use-activated and continuous from 10 min./level would mean x3.000 gp. So 84.000 gp... Give and take? The following poster has a light gray and a hard gray ring. -The greatest treasure in the world. Beat 99 levels for it. Friend shield (50.000 gp a pair). Shield other at will, no range limitation. 2nd level, use-activated, CL 10th, for whatever godforsaken reason. 25.000 gp a ring with CL 10th for a 2nd level spell which doesnīt scale? Whatever. The next poster shows a... -Donīt worry, kids, the empty space is intentional. Invisibility (20.000 gp). Use it to become invisible. Use-activated, 2nd level spell, caster level 3rd. Shouldnīt it cost 12.000 gp? Whatever. The next poster shows just a ring. You hear me? Itīs a RING! A RING, I SAY, YOU... -Nothing special about this one. Mind Shielding (8.000 gp). Really neat, I say. It functions by nondetection, which should be... 3x5x2.000 gp x1 (duration multiplier), or 30.000 gp, but since you can be scryed upon, itīs half-assed for 4/15 of the cost. The next poster shows a person with eyes blocked, about to be let loose an arrow to its heart. -Useless, ainīt it? Protection (2.000, 8.000, 18.000, 32.000 and 50.000 gp). Whoo-hoo. Bonus squared x 2.000 gp. Thatīs it. The next poster shows a snake, or a goat, or the... -RIIIIIING OF... The ram (8.600 gp). This oneīs a particular case of creativity upon which I can shed no light to. The next poster shows a white gold ring. -Of regeneration (90.000 gp). Fast and useful, but not as much as just being a troll. Nothing special about it that can be separated from the rest. The next poster has a shooting star. -Shooting stars (50.000 gp). Useless, and weird. (Will continue someday.) |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-11-06, 09:23 AM | A purple minotaur comes back... Thanks for listening so far, everyone. I wouldnīt let you down, trust me. Donīt I suppose you need to know about the ring of elemental command? Trust me, I wouldnīt start this not to end it. Not anymore, at least! Letīs start. He puts a poster with a ring on black and another one on white. -Counterspells (4.000 gp). A sixth level slot can be used for a lesser spell... It costs 36.000 gp to use a sixth level slot per day. Divided by nine, it makes a reactive counterspell... Thatīs going to be very, very useful! He puts a poster with four rings of the four elements. -Donīt be scared if you canīt see the air. Ring of Elemental command, Air. First of all, letīs start by the feather fall (Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1) effect. That costs a unscaled 2.200 gp, and thatīs it for it. Since you can fall and use anything else at the same time, itīs unrelated. All of its other functions have a reduced cost due to the quest factor... The next poster has a few items pointing at different parts of a ring made of air. -Resist Energy (Clr 2, Drd 2, Fire 3, Pal 2, Rgr 1, Sor/Wiz 2) at 11th cap caster level winds up as a price of 44.000 gp, assuming it takes activation previous to every usage. Wind Wall (Air 2, Clr 3, Drd 3, Rgr 2, Sor/Wiz 3), and since the only thing that scales with this thingy is the duration of the effect, which is the only thing that makes it worth a dang, itīs fair to assume that the price scales too. 30.000 gp, thus. Two daily uses of gust of wind (Drd 2, Sor/Wiz 2), a spell that doesnīt scale in any sense of the word, mean 2nd spell level, and 3rd caster level, because itīs the minimum caster level to use and the maximum caster level for any profit. And then divide by 5-uses/day, or by 3. 2 sl x3 cl /3 uses multiplier x2.000 gp usage, for 4.000 gp. Then add air walk (Air 4, Clr 4, Drd 4) , for an extra price of 4 (SL) x7 (CL; you wonīt be air walking THAT long, dammit) /4 (5-uses per day) x2.000 gp (use-activated), or 14.000 gp. And then comes the lovely Chain Lightning (Air 6, Sor/Wiz 6), which scales like no tomorrow, for a price of 6 x 15 x 2.000 gp /special multiplier for weekly usage. Whatever it is. You canīt cast more than one spell at once, so Iīd say they can stay without special multipliers for function number, itīd be the same thing if you carried one trinket with each ability in your pocket, save for itīs harder to steal. Hic. The total price would be... I almost forgot! We need the other properties. For the save and attack bonus, doesnīt it look like a... Lemmethink. It does a related charm-protection thingy, since when one is active the other isnīt. DC 17 indicates a 5th level spell, but Charm Monster is just a 4th level spell, although usable at will. Hedging out stuff... feels like Magic Cricket against Good, 10ī radius. Said Magic Circle (Blk 3, Clr 3, Alignment-component domain 3, Pal 3, Sor/Wiz 3) is nice enough to do. The effect is continuous and unscaling, so itīs worth 3x5x1.5x2.000 gp, or 45.000 gp. Alternates with Charm Monster, heightened to 5th (Brd 3+2, Sor/Wiz 4+1), which costs 5x9x2.000 gp, or 90.000 gp. Secondary function goes for 75% of the price, or 43.750 gp. We reduce the protection effectīs price for the reduced boni, radius, and save penalty, and then we increase it again because of the extra language thingy. The next poster has a few rings. -This means that the main function for one of those rings is worth 113.750 gp. As for the rest of a ring of elemental command, air, thatīd be worth 44.000 gp for the protection, 30.000 gp for the wind wall, 4.000 gp for the gust, 14.000 gp for the wind wall, and the rest is Chain Lightning (180.000 gp divided by the weekly modifier). However weīre already off the budget, kids: itīs already worth 205.750 gp out of 200.000 gp. Somebody was really lousy at rounding here... And the quest component doesnīt seem THAT strong in reducing price... The next poster has a hand made of stone with an emerald-upon-gold ring. -Here we go again. A ring of Meld Into Stone (Clr 3, Drd 3), whatever that is, unlimited use, would cost approximately 3x5x1.5x2000 gp, because itīs twice as cheap to make it continuous than to make it worth its actual caster level, 45.000 gp against 90.000 exactly. The next power, Soften Earth and Stone (Drd 2, Earth 2), totally scales. Strangely, it doesnīt seem very useful... 2x15x2.000 gp is 60.000 gp. The ring of earth is stronger so far, take that you djinni! Now letīs unload two uses of stone shape (Clr 3, Drd 3, Earth 3, Sor/Wiz 5) per day. Iīll assume on possibility that abilities are obtained from the Cleric/Wizard list, but itīs cheaper for the cleric right now, so itīs a 3rd level spell, whose only usefulness (area) scales with level. 3 SL x15 CL x2.000 Use /3 (5-2 uses per day) results in 30.000 gp. Wall of Stone (Clr 5, Drd 6, Earth 5, Sor/Wiz 5), once per day, is worth 5x15x2.000/4 (5-1 use per day) is 37.500 gp. Last ones are Stoneskin (Drd 5, Earth 6, Sor/Wiz 4, Strength 6), taken now from the wizard for convenience, since the only inprovement would be the save DC, and itīs a wearer only spell... 4x15 (scaleīs obvious)x2.000 gp, divided by 1/week, multiplied by 250 gp of diamond dust and granite divided by the same 1/week. And then the same /week, but for passwall. No idea how to deal with 1/week, and weīre already out of budget, so forget it. The next poster has a fiery ruby ring, inset with gold and black iron, on a hand made of basalt. -Powerful, doesnīt it seem? ring of elemental command, fire (200.000 gp). Starts out as a ring of major fire resistance, resisting 20 points out of everything fire. But thatīs not all, no, it ainīt. Past those 28.000 gp of fire resistance, comes unlimited use of Burning Hands (Fire 1, Sor/Wiz 1), capped at 5th caster level. 1x5x2, 10.000 gp. Two uses of flaming sphere (Fire 2, Sor/Wiz 2) per day (their comedic value is greater than their actual use, but whatever.) The Flaming Tumbleweed is worth 2x15 (scales duration) x2.000 gp, or 30.000 gp, and two uses per day reduce it to 10.000 gp. Pyrotechnics (Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 2) doesnīt scale, at last an exception. 2x3x2.000 gp, or 12.000 gp, and twice per day make it 4.000 gp. The Wall of fire (Drd 5, Fire 4, Sor/Wiz 4) per day scales with level in every sense of the word, for a total of 4x15x2.000/4 gp, or 30.000 gp. And finally, twice per week a flame strike (Clr 5, Drd 4, Sun 5, War 5) can be hired, so to speak. Totally nuts, right? No weekly multiplier, no idea how to go on. The next poster has a tourmaline and lapis lazuli ring, in a snowy white hand with a pearly luster. -Ring of elemental command, water (200.000 gp). Starts out as a ring of water walk (Clr 3, Rgr 3), operating continuous, for 3x5x1.5x2.000 gp, or 45.000 gp. Then there comes create water (Clr 0, Drd 0, Pal 1), which doesnīt scale much, and since you can basically make it at will, itīs no use to haste up. If you got to haste up, the same thingīs to do it fifteen times faster, ainīt it? AINīT IT? No? Darn. 0.5x15x2.000 gp is 15.000 gp, and have fun. Donīt use it while water walking. And water breathing (Clr 3, Drd 3, Sor/Wiz 3, Water 3). Duration is cheaper to make continuous than to really scale, again... SL 3, CL 5, 1.5 Multiplier, 2.000 gp use activated. 45.000 gp, again. Its next function is once per day a wall of ice (Sor/Wiz 4), which scales in every sense of the word. 4x15x2.000/4 = 30.000 gp. The following function is a twice/week ice storm (Drd 4, Sor/Wiz 4, Water 5). Thereīs no frigginī scale to the effect, itīs worth a nice 4x7x2.000/weekly modifier x2, weīre lost here. Same for its next effect, Control Water (Clr 4, Drd 4, Sor/Wiz 6, Water 4), scales a lot. 4x15x2.000/weekly modifier x2. -God, I thought weīd never be out of those suckers. Weīre out of the fire... The next poster shows a snake with a ramīs head. -And into the frying pan. Ring of the Ram (8.600 gp). First property is to shoot 1d6, and bullrush at +11, or do a strength check with a strength of 25. Secondary property is worth 38.5% of normal, because itīs a secondary function and it expends two charges. And the third property is worth 25% of what it would be normally. We got three incognitos now, but once we solve them, weīre fine and dandy. However, neither Telekinesis (Sor/Wiz 5) nor Bullīs strength (Clr 2, Drd 2, Pal 2, Sor/Wiz 2, Strength 2) do that, or even near it. Iīd understand if it was Summon Monster, but no, no idea. The next poster shows a hand in the sky, circled by a star. -When the wasp bit, that one mustīve been painful, judging by the swelling. Fortunately my skinīs much, much thicker. Ring of shooting stars (50.000 gp). The most wicked of them, yeah. It works at night or underground... Iīd say that each of the two functions is a separate property. Letīs start by the Indoors... it has two uses of faerie fire (Drd 1) per day, and fully scaled by caster level, because if the targets run away, a greater duration will be desirable. 1x12x2.000 gp/3 = 8.000 gp. And the spark shower is kind of a 3rd level spell as far as I am concerned... no save, but half damage anyway. A third level spell, usable once per day, the damage doesnīt seem to scale... 3x5x2k/4= 7.500 gp. You canīt use both functions at once, nor do they drain from the same source, so itīs worth 15.500 gp so far. And the other one is going to be weird... Dancing lights (Brd 0, Sor/Wiz 0), once per hour. You mockinī me? Useable twenty-four times per day, no... twelve only, since it takes darkness. But itīs more than five, so donīt bother. It scales like a sponge, so to say, it doesnīt scale. Itīs worth, thus, 1/2 x 1 x 2.000 gp, or 1.000 gp. And then comes Light (Brd 0, Clr 0, Drd 0, Sor/Wiz 0), scales. Twice per nightīs like twice per day, so youīll follow if I call it 1/2 x 12 x 2.000 /3 = 4.000 gp. The Ball Lightning, whatever the ficks itīs inspired off, but it feels kind of a delayed blast magic missile (Sor/Wiz 1). Youīll forgive me if I call it a magic missile, right? I mean, look at it. No save, average damage 3.5 (like the edition! Itīs an omen?). Caster level 12, so that nobody complains it lasts too much, even if it loses a missile from the five. 1x12x2.000 gp /4 = 6.000 gp. And the thrice per week thingy, the Shooting Stars, are happiness to me... They feel like fireballs, all we have to do is substract their price and voila! Weīll have the weekly modifier! The next poster shows a star in a scanner. There comes the best part. Letīs start deconstructing the ring of shooting stars. The indoors costs 15.500 gp, the total is 50.000 gp. And fireballs at will would cost 3x10x2.000 gp, or 60.000 gp. But weīve got only three per week. So letīs see... the other function is worth 1.000 gp plus 4.000 gp plus 6.000 gp plus Shooting Stars. 50.000 -15.500/2 (related) --------- 50.000 -7.750 ------- 42.250 gp (at night) -11.000 gp = 31.250 gp. Merciless, huh? Somethingīs rotten here. 31.250/60.000, x0.5208(3) canīt be three/week. The next poster shows Chahl breaking a ring with an axe. -Oh, sorry. This isnīt an actual poster, itīs an illusion according to my intent. The next poster shows a wizard inside a jewel. -BAD concept art. Spell Storing, various (18.000, 50.000 and 200.000 gp). Spell slots, a maximum of a 3rd level, or perhaps less, is worth as a bonus spell slot. Slot level squared, multiplied by a thousand gp. However, this is worth twice that amount because it could be also three 1st levels, or some combination of such. And that means, twice. The minor one stores up to three levels, or 3x3x1.000 gp x 2. The normal one has a fifth level slot maximum, 5x5 x1.000 gp x2. And the major one has a tenth level slot maximum, 10x10 x1.000 gp x2. The next poster has a bouncy ring. -What? Spell turning (98.280 gp). Casts spell turning (Luck 7, Magic 7, Sor/Wiz 7). Spell turning affects 1d4+6 levels, but normally it totals 8.5, round up for good measure. Itīs usable once per day, so it would be worth four times as much. Which means 491.400 gp if it was useable at will. The suspicious amount of decimals means that this thing is command-word activated. 273 is the total between caster level and spell level, then? No. Thatīd mean caster level 39... Thereīs a divisor by three here. The true price for such a ring would be SL x CL x 1.800 gp / 4... 7x13x1.800 /4 = 40.950 gp. The next poster shows a ring with a turkey&pillow motif. -How funky. Ring of Sustenance (2.500 gp). Seems sleep isnīt as holy as it used to be. For only marginally more than what a magic sword costs, you can sleep only 1/4 as much for the same results, and forget about food. Sleep isnīt holy, no it ainīt anymore. The next poster shows a ghost moving furniture. -The heck? Telekinesis (75.000 gp). Caster level 9th. Let me see if I get this straight... 9x5x1.800 gp is 75.000 gp? No, it is 81.000 gp. The next poster shows a ring with three rubies. -Pweety. Three wishes (97.950 gp, 32.650 gp for each wish). 25.000 gp for each wishīs lifeforce expended, and 7.650 gp for the activation. Itīs just right, 50x9x17 gp for each charge. Yes, one I managed to deconstruct correctly, at last! The next poster shows a ring not crossing the surface of a pond it is on. -Water walking (15.000 gp). Undercosted if you ask me. 3x5x1.5x2.000 gp is 45.000 gp, not 15.000 gp. The next poster shows a ring with a pointy hat. -Ring of Rincewind? Wizardry, I, II, III and IV (20.000, 40.000, 70.000, 100.000 gp). Doubles arcane spellcasting abilities for arcane casters. First ring of wizardry, worth 20.000 gp, adds five slots, average between wizardīs four and sorcererīs six, because bards donīt matter to anyone. Each slotīs worth 1x1x1.000 gp, so five per 1.000 gpīs worth 5.000 gp. Second ringīs worth 2x2x1.000 gp x 5, or 4.000x5 gp. Thatīd be 20.000 gp. The third ring of wizardry is worth 3x3x1.000 gp x5, or 45.000 gp. And the fourth ring of wizardry is worth 4x4x1.000 gp x5, or 80.000 gp. No, thereīs something wrong about how I am doing it. Letīs try to divide it in its factors. 2x2x5xK = 20K 2x2x2x5xK = 40K 2x5x7xK = 70K 2x2x5x5xK = 100K -Thereīs always a 5. I suppose that divides the number of slots it is supposed to give, and we can start substracting the K (1.000 gp) because it does the basic effect... Thatīd mean... (2x2)=4 (2x2x2)=8 (2x7)=14 (2x2x5)=20 -I truly canīt understand this functioning. The next poster shows a wooden chest with brass bindings, minus the wood. -X-ray vision (25.000 gp). For 10 minutes you can see through stuff, then you suffer 1 point of constitution damage per minute for as long as you wear it. Deadly... And unscrutable. The minotaur bows. -Thatīs it for the ring. This has opened some interrogants, as well as solved some questions. Interrogants: -How goes the weekly usage multiplier? -How does the ring of the ram work? -Whatīs so cool about the ring of shooting stars that makes it so costly? -How does the ring of spell turning work? -How does the ring of telekinesis get its cost calculated? -How is the ring of water walking so cheap? -What calculus happens inside a ring of wizardry? -The heckīs wrong with the ring of X-ray vision? -Why is the ring of freedom of movement so cheap? -Why the ring of shield is worth anything at all? Yet, we got the following. -Sustenanceīs effects are priced at 2.500 gp, as shown in the Ring of Sustenance. -Counter-based immunity is priced by the effect of the original effect, divided by nine, as shown in the Ring of Counterspells. He takes all of the scrolls, and drops them into a black leather bag. -Thanks for listening so far, everyone. Time for some more. |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-11-06, 09:24 AM | Rod Deconstruction Chahl places a new bundle of scrolls on the wall, and pulls down a poster. One with a rod, with an orb on one end, and another one on the other. In the middle, thereīs a semitransparent smaller orb superimposed. -Rod of Absorption (50.000 gp). Fifty 1st level slots, 50.000 gp, divisible so as to mix and match, assume it multiplies by two, as in the ring of spell storing, for a total of 100.000 gp, and then divide by two because it takes an absorption in the first place. The next poster he scrolls down shows a rod with an eye and a cup of coffee. -Exactly. Rod of Alertness (85.000 gp). First of all, remove those detections. Four detect alignment (Clr 1) spells, Detect Magic (Brd 0, Clr 0, Drd 0, Sor/Wiz 0), Discern Lies (Clr 4, Pal 3), Light (Brd 0, Clr 0, Drd 0, Sor/Wiz 0), and See Invisibility (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 2). None of those spells scales significantly enough as to make it impossible to restart the effect. Thatīs worth 8.000 gp for the four alignments, 2.000 gp for light and detect magic, 12.000 gp for see invisibility, and Discern Lies... Thatīs a 4th level spell. At 7th caster level, itīs 56.000 gp. But even THAT alone would be enough for 78.000 gp! We havenīt even started by the +1 light mace (2.315 gp), the +1 insight bonus on initiative checks (?), the prayer (Clr 3, Pal 3) 1/day (and it lasts 10 minutes, too!), or the animate objects (Brd 6, Chaos 6, Clr 6) 1/day! The next poster shows a rod with a prohibition sign over it. -My personal favorite. Rod of Cancellation (11.000 gp). Priceīs off, yes it is. DC 23 and the lovely prerequisite, Mordenkainenīs Disjunction (Sor/Wiz 9), indicates its basic effect is composed of that spell. Even then, 9x17x50 gp (use-activated), would be 7.650 gp. As it is now, it indicates a heightened to 11th, CL 20th spell. Which I wish it was... the save DC would skyrocket to 26. The next poster shows a rod whispering. -Rod of Enemy Detection (23.500 gp). Usable at will, itīs worth 47.000 gp, since it is usable 3/day. And now, it does a near-spell effect, right? I donīt know what the heck has True Seeing (Clr 5, Drd 7, Knowledge 5, Sor/Wiz 6) got to do with watching intents. Weīll ignore its material components, because it doesnīt do what it should... and weīre truly lost here. The next poster shows a massive flail. -Rod of Flailing (50.000 gp). The flail is a +3 dire flail... no, two +3 dire flail heads. 36.000 gp total. The last function is, as a free action (use-activated), give you a +4 deflection bonus to AC and a +4 resistance bonus on saves. Itīll last for ten minutes... Itīs usable once per day, so itīd be worth 14.000 gp four times, or 56.000 gp, if it was always on use. Which isnīt really all that right. A +4 resistance bonus is worth 16.000 gp, and a +4 deflection bonus to AC is worth 32.000 gp, assuming continuity. The total would be 64.000 gp, plus 72.000 gp for the unrelated dire flail... which it is NOT, so I assume the +4 resistance has another nature, as if there was a spell that provided both. Iīll start assuming thereīs a certain spell... a virtual spell, so to speak. This is going to be one of our resources from now on. 56.000/9 (rodīs caster level) is 6,(2), so thereīs something wrong here. Whatever that spell is, it doesnīt scale too much. 56K can be factored to 2x2x2x7xK. The spell is a 4th level spell that doesnīt scale out of 7th level, and it is use-activated here. Its duration is a fixed 10 minutes... The next poster shows a smoky rod. -Rod of Flame Extinguishing (15.000 gp). At will cut out normal fires. Then, we got ten unloads of stopping a large normal fire. Then a related power at half price for twice the charges, and a last related power at a third of the price for three times the number of charges. Since we got nothing on any of such uses, weīre as lost as if it was the Ring of the Ram from before. The next poster... doesnīt scroll, as strong as he pulls. -Oh foī CRYING OUT LOUD, AAAGH... Hanging himself on the pull ring, standing upside down, doing everything he can... No, he canīt pull down this poster. -No frigginī stupid thingyīs gonna put me DOWN... Finally, he falls down, with some of the pulling ring on his hand. -Guessed what the heck this thing is? Exactly. Immovable Rod (5.000 gp). No idea... The next poster has some real clockwork beast of a rod. -Rod of Lordly Might (70.000 gp). First of all, letīs remove the uses whose price we know... Hold Person on touch range is worth 3x19 (scaling duration, and its duration is its only power) x1.800 (on command) /4 (1/day) results in 25650 gp. Then we got Fear, which also scales with duration, because itīs its only power, 4x19x1.800/4, resulting in 34200 gp. And the last is inflict light wounds, except this one (at last!) doesnīt scale. 1x1x2.000 gp is 2.000 gp. Then, there are the wholly related weapon uses: a +2 light mace, for 8.000 gp, a +1 flaming longsword for 8.000 gp, a +4 battleaxe for 32.000 gp, and a +3 spear (long and short) for 18.000 gp. All are related uses; 32.000 gp plus 17.000 gp, the total price of all related powers, divided by two for other use. Magnetic north and depth/height is free for me; get youself a compass and an altimetre. The climbing pole/ladder is also free; all you needīs a rope and a foldable pole, and good aiming for the same effect. And you can also disregard the ram usage; itīs useless. -Obviously the spell effects were assumed not to scale. That places their prices at 3x5x1.800/4, 4x7x1.800/4, and 1x1x1.800/4. Even if the last effect, the inflict thing, has the save DC for a 5th level spell. Thatīs 6.750 + 12.650 gp + 450 gp = 19.850 gp, and 49.000 gp for the arsenal. Around 70.000 gp, weīre lacking only 1.150 gp. Enough to pay for the masterwork weapons and special stuff, right? The next poster shows a rod on a metal plate. -Rod of metal and mineral detection (10.500 gp). Assuming it works by Locate object (Brd 2, Clr 3, Sor/Wiz 2, Travel 2), it should cost 12.000 gp at caster level 3. But, it works at CL 9, and its range is only 30 ft. Suppose it works better than it should, right? The next poster shows a rod inside a clockwork thingy made of rainbows and shines. -I canīt really picture how would it be. Metamagic rod (varied) (varied). Letīs start by the greater Quicken rod, the strongest of them. It costs 170.000 gp, and is usable 3/day, so it is worth half of what it would cost if it was usable at will. That means it would cost 340.000 gp to quicken everything youīve got! Epics, heard me? I discovered it! In your face, Karsus, Mystra, all of youīre suckers! Shove up on Automatic Quicken feats for nine levels, itīs worth much less! Haaaah! And I donīt even cast spells, manifest powers, incarnate effects, use invocations or apply infusions! After a while, he cools down. -Ah, sorry. It should be 340.000 gp because... letīs factor it. Its caster level is 17, and its factors are 2x2x5x17xK. Well, (2x5) seems like a spell level, and (2xK) seems like a use-activated item. The spell is quickened... Itīs a sixth level spell! But itīs illogical, a tenth level spell requires a caster level of 21. So, is it a 9th and a 1st, or a 6th and a 4th? I bet for the 6th and the 4th. If it was a 1st and a 9th, whatīs Quicken spell doing here? Now for Quicken, medium. Itīs worth 75.500, and happiness forever. Itīd be worth 151.000 gp to quicken everything up to 6th level, so itīs a neat trade. 151 is factoreable to... err... BZZZT!!! DOES NOT COMPUTE! 1-5-1- does not compute. Error ·23! Prime number is indivisible by any other numbers except 1. ERROR! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE! Sorry, letīs pass to Quicken, lesser. Worth a quarter of the greater. 35.000 gp, 70.000 gp forever. 2*5*7*K. Or, (5*7) * (2*K). DOES NOT COMPUTE! 5th level spells canīt be cast at 7th caster level, nor viceversa! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE! The next poster shows a strange equation, which ends with "d = *". So that 2d6 is 12. Anybody ever noticed the true result of dividing by zero? Any number multiplied by zero yields zero, so that zero squared results in any number, or infinite. Would cost 121.500 gp for 3/day, or 243.000 gp forevah, and 243 is divisible by 3, 3, 3, and 3. This truly is new to me. The medium rod is worth 54.000 gp, 108.000 for all the uses per day. 108K is divisible by 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, and K. So that, 2k * 2, 3, 3, and 3. Six by nine, anyone? I guess so. And the last rod goes at 14.000 gp. 28.000 for use at will, 2x2x7xK. 2xK * 2x7. Whee! The next poster shows another strange equation, which ends with d= *1.5*(random N +1) Nevermind. Time for starting a division... 73K for 3/day, 146K for all day. 146 is divisible by 2, 73, K... Hate those prime numbers. Always getting in my way. And then there comes the middle, 32.500 gp. 65K for all day. Divisible by 5, 13 and K. And the lowest one goes for 9.000 gp, or 3x3xK. Vgh. The next poster shows a few properties of a rod. And the last ones are all the same. Enlarge, Silent, Still... 24.500 becomes 49.000 gp. 7x7xK. 11.000 gp, goes to 22.000 gp, 2x11xK. And 3.000 gp goes to 3xK. No use trying here... The next poster shows a rod shaking a finger on its top. -No, no, no. Rod of negation (37.000 gp). 3/day, but I wonīt fall for that again. Itīs a greater dispel magic (Brd 5, Clr 6, Drd 6, Sor/Wiz 6), caster level 15th. Thatīd be 90.000 gp at 3/day, but apparently one function out of three and adding a requirement for ranged touch is worth, together, 37/90 of the price. The next poster shows a rather straight snake. -Long as half its body. Rod of the python (13.000 gp). A +1/+1 quarterstaffīs worth 4.601 gp. Letīs forget about the masterwork and weapon cost for a while. And now letīs think about the price of adding a masterwork giant constrictor snake. Baleful Polymorph (Drd 5, Sor/Wiz 5) canīt polymorph a giant constrictor snake into a masterwork staff, but letīs assume it can. Continuous, yet usable once per three days, caster level 10th, even though a giant constrictor has 11 HD, means... 5x10x0.5 (duration multiplier) x2.000 gp (use-activated) / (5-1/3 uses per day) 14/3... = about 10.700 gp. The rodīs use is related, you canīt attack with the +1/+1 python while the python is under use. So it goes for half price, to 13.000 gp almost exact. Cool. The next rod shows a king lifting a rod in the air. -Yep, thatīs a phalus. Do not mistake with a dick. Rod of Rulership (60.000 gp). Something about it costs 5.000 gp, and that something is the scepter worth 5.000 gp. The rest is 500 minutes of ruling 300 HD with a 4th level spell DC, caster level 20th. So, a virtual 4th level spell! Rule 15 HD/level, for up to 5 rounds/level, and weīve got 50 charges of it, each lasting 10 minutes! However, its XP requirement explains us that something is amiss here. It would cost 55.000 gp if it hadnīt got the 5.000 gp scepter in it. And since it has 50 charges, unlimited itīs worth 110.000 gp. Divide by 2.000, divide by 20, thatīs the spell level. And since 2.75 isnīt a viable spell level... Weīre as fine as we started. The next poster shows disneyland. -Rod of Security (61.000 gp). 200 days of Paradise in Paradiseland! Call your local retailer for a pocket paradise! And by twice that price, itīs usable forever. Whatever. Each day is worth 305 gp. Thatīs what we call a true vacations pack... ainīt it costly? We have lower rates at the Guild of Ultimate Evil. 305 gp isnīt divisible by 20, so its caster level doesnīt play a role here. Nor its spell level for Gate (Clr 9, Sor/Wiz 9). 305 gp a day, thatīs it, dang. The next poster shows a rod of splendor. -Unmistakeable, ainīt it? Rod of Splendor (25.000 gp). First of all, +4 to Charisma is worth 16.000 gp, or 24.000 gp if you are to be a minmaxing ass. Contraproducent now, ainīt it? Letīs assume it is worth 16.000 gp. The next power is related; you wonīt be doing any charisma checks while activating the rod. Nobody would in their sane mind, at least; first one thing, then the other. Iīd compare that to Major Creation, twelfth caster level, once per day. 5x12x2.000 gp/4, or 30.000 gp. WAIT! Since it is basically useless, we can forget it. And now, the TRUE usage of Major Creation. Once per week, and this time it WONīT slip from me... Since weīre talking a silk pavilion and some more furnishings, Iīll assume it is a major creation using vegetable matter. Silkīs not a vegetable, but damn. Itīd cost 120.000 gp to use at will, so once per week it completes the 9.000 gp... 120/9 = 13.(3). Thatīs the 1/week multiplier? IS IT? At last! Even then, I doubt it is a good idea to pin our hopes on an item which I had to ignore a function of. The next poster shows a thunderstorm, and a rod. -Rod of Thunder and Lightning (33.000 gp). Whoa, so many .000 gp. Iīd say we need another currency, because goldīs lost its charm. Used by the thousand pieces? That means itīs delivered in bags of twenty pounds, whoa! And itīs still supposed to be respected? Iīm going to start using Ks. The K is the new currency for me. A K is worth 1.000 gp. As something whispers to him from the door, he approaches it and starts talking, seemingly alone. What, there already are? Howīs the thing for a favor? Ah, please. Hey! You gotta be kidding me! When you ask "please", you donīt ask "1.000 gp"! I meant the Alt- command! Alt- 0131? , okay. Thanks for the . He returns. Thanks for waiting. Where were we... Oh, yeah! Rod of Tundra and Leeches (33). All five functions once per day, except for the +2 light mace. The +2 light mace is worth 8.000 gp and forget the masterwork light mace price. The Thunder function will be left for the end... The Lightning function seems to work like Shocking Grasp (Sor/Wiz 1), at 2nd caster level. That means, 1x2x2/4 gp, or 1. The next power is Thunderclap, a shout (Brd 4, Sor/Wiz 4) spell with only 2/5 of its damage, which is like half of its actualy power, so as to make it worth 7/10 of its worth. 4x7x2x(7/10)/4 = 9.8. Its next power is a Lightning Stroke, which is exactly a Lightning Bolt heightened to 4th (Sor/Wiz 3+1), worth 4x9x2/4 = 18. And then there comes the last two functions. Thunder and Lightning is, to me, a 4th level spell, given the added power of deafening and increased damage. Area of effect isnīt really all that important unless you mean to kill something VERY weird. Like locusts. 4x9x2/4 = 18. And then comes the last power, thunder. No idea, really. And substraction states this thing should be something youīre PAID for incorporating. The next poster shows a very straight snake. -Rod of the Viper (19). A +2 heavy mace, worth 8. Then a poison (Clr 4, Drd 3) spell, continuous during 10 minutes. The save DC is off down, since the DC for poison is VERY high, as it is a spell automatically heightened to your maximum (or second maximum, if youīre a primary caster) spell level, working with a DC of 1/2 your caster level plus your wisdom modifier. Huzzah! Time to think. How do you shove ten daily minutes of deadly poison into a heavy mace for 11? God knows. The next poster shows a withered rod. -Rod of withering (25). A +1 light mace, but deals only ability damage. 24 for damage, since the 2 it takes for a +1 weapon are partially subsumed, it wonīt deal the extra hit point of damage. The DC is calculated for a 5th level spell, possibly Contagion (Clr 3, Destruction 3, Drd 3, Sor/Wiz 4). As far as Iīve seen, rods have high save DCs. 5x9x2 equals 90.000 gp. 24/90 is 12/45, is 4/15, is very very little. It applies ten minutes per day... So, ten minutes per day of endless spell use is worth 4/15? Deal, dude, deal! The next poster shows an interrogation sign. -For sanityīs sake, Iīll let someone else do this. You can guess what rod it is, right? |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-18-06, 09:09 AM | Chahl tries to take the scrolls, but heīs hanged on one. -And itīs just an illusion, huh. Imagine if I got the real one here... Slapping with his hands, he manages to take all the scrolls and drop them on a bundle... except for one. -Weīll meet again, Rodney. Chahl places a new bundle of scrolls, and pulls down the first one. -Staffs, here we go. The image is that of a staff with an abjuration icon. -How universal. Abjuration (65). This is like... Shield: 1x13x187.5 gp = 2437.5 Resist Energy: 2x13x187.5 gp = 4875 Dispel Magic: 3x13x187.5 gp = 7312.5 Lesser Globe of Invulnerability: 4x13x187.5 gp /2 = 4875 Dismissal (Clr 4, Sor/Wiz 5): 5x13x281.75 gp /2 = 9156.875 Repulsion: (Clr 7, Protection 7, Sor/Wiz 6): 6x13x375 gp /3 = 9750 Thus it is worth 38.406 gp. Ainīt it? Did I make some mistake? Whatīs so pricy? Oh, sorry. This is worth twice that amount. Whatīs so cheapy? The next poster shows a heart and a staff. -Charming (16.5). Charm Person: 1x8x281.75 gp = 2254 Charm Monster: 4x8x375 gp /2 = 6000 Worth 8.254 gp out of 16.500, but itīs the creation cost what Iīm using. The next poster shows a lot of monsters and a staff. -Conjuration (65). Unseen Servant 1x13x187.5 = 2437.5 Summon Swarm 2x13x187.5 = 4875 Stinking Cloud 3x13x187.5 = 7312 Minor Creation 4x13x187.5 /2 = 4875 Cloudkill 5x13x281.75 /2 = 9156.875 Summon Monster VI 6x13x375 /3 = 9750 Thus it is worth 38.406 gp. Feh. The creation cost, the staff is 76.812 gp. Much better, huh? Whatīs so cheap? The next poster shows a shield and a staff. -Protection (58.25). Shield: 1x15x187.5 = 2812.5 Shield of Faith: 1x15x187.5 = 2812.5 Shield Other: 2x15x281.75 = 8452.5 Shield of Law: 8x15x375 /3 = 15000 Thus it is worth 29077.5 out of 58.250 gp. The next poster shows a supple staff with a forked tip. -Divination (73.25). I forgot to include the material components! 250 gp for true seeing, fifty charges... 12.500 gp. Divide by three, for about 4.166 gp. But the material price here is... doubtful. This creation is undone. WAIT! Iīm using the creation cost. The cost would be... No, those school staffs are all equal. None created carefully, all done with the same staff with name and spell changed. Wonder which one was the base. The next poster shows a staff with an emerald at the end. -Earth and Stone (80.5) Passwall 5x11x562.5= 15496.25 Move Earth 6x11x750= 24750 Thus it is worth 80437.5 gp. Out of 65.000... Ah, I got it! I was using the CREATION cost, not the SALE price! The price is 76.781.25 gp The next poster shows a bronze-and-brass staff. -Fire (17.75). Burning hands 1x8x375 = 3000 Fireball 3x8x562.5 = 13500 Wall of fire 4x8x750/2 = 12000 Hic! Now weīre off. This oneīs worth 28.500 gp out of 17.750. The next poster shows a staff tipped with two glistening diamonds. -Frost (56.25). Ice Storm 4x10x375 = 15000 Wall of ice 4x10x562.5 = 22500 Cone of cold 5x10x750/2 = 18750 Good. 56.250 gp. The mext poster is a staff made of thick oak shod in gold. -Life (155.75). Heal 6x11x562.5 = 37125 Raise Dead 5x11x750/5 = 8250 Material component for Raise Dead (200 XP = 200 x 25 gp): 50x5000/5 = 50.000 gp. We still are missing 60.375 gp. Wrong spell, anyone? The prereqs say "resurrection". But so far itīs been 95375 gp. The next poster has the figure of an ebony staff carved with bones. -Again a school-based staff. Necromancy (65). Cause fear 1x13x375=4875 Ghoul touch 2x13x375=9750 Halt undead 3x13x375=14625 Enervation 4x13x375/2=9750 Waves of fatigue 5x13x562.5/2=18281.25 Circle of death 6x13x750/3=19500 Material component for Circle of Death: 500 gp dark pearl. Fifty charges, 25.000 gp. What can I say? Itīs really, really off. It should be worth 101.781 gp, 25 cp. The next poster has a potent item, or at least so does it look. The staff has a door icon. -Passage (170.500 gp), whatever itīs supposed to look like. Dimension door 4x17x375 Passwall 5x17x375 Phase door 7x17x375/2 Greater teleport 7x17x562.5/2 Astral projection 9x17x750/2 Thatīs 167343.75 gp. Thereīs more than just rounding here... What did I miss? The material component for Phase door is just a pinch of sesame seeds. Ah, the material component for Astral Projection! A jacinth worth 1.000 gp. Werenīt jacinths flowers? Plus a silver bar worth 5 gp for every person to transport. Up to nine creatures can enter the Astral at once with a caster level of 17th, so itīs 45 gp x 50 /2 gp, or 1125 gp. And then, 25.000 gp for the jacinths. No, I think Iīll keep the cost without material components. The next poster, straight and smooth, throbs with power. -Iīll let you guess. Itīs worth 211, BTW. Magic missile (1 charge) 1x15x375 = 5625 Ray of enfeeblement (heightened to 5th level) (1 charge) 5x15x375 = 28125 Continual flame (1 charge) 2x15x375 = 11250 Levitate (1 charge) 2x15x375 = 11250 Lightning bolt (heightened to 5th level) (1 charge) 5x15x375 = 28125 Fireball (heightened to 5th level) (1 charge) 5x15x375 = 28125 Cone of cold (2 charges) 5x15x375/2 = 14062.5 Hold monster (2 charges) 5x15x375/2 = 14062.5 Wall of force (in a 10-ft.-diameter hemisphere around the caster only) (2 charges) 5x15x562.5/2 = 21093.75 Globe of invulnerability (2 charges) 6x15x750/2 = 33750 The totals run at 195.468,75 gp. The rest are about 15.500 gp, I understand why did they round now... But itīs still more than a +2/+2 quarterstaff with a +2 luck bonus on saves and a +2 deflection bonus to AC. Not to mention the double damage virtual spell and the retributive strike. Perhaps some of those spells were capped, but I donīt know which ones... The next poster shows a stout and sturdy staff. -Size alteration (29). Enlarge person 1x8x375 = 3000 Reduce Person 1x8x375 = 3000 Shrink item 3x8x375 = 9000 Enlarge Person, mass 4x8x562.5 = 18000 Reduce Person, mass 4x8x750 = 24000 Total runs at 57.000 gp. The only way to make it worth 29 is by making the mass functions take three charges. The next poster shows a dark staff with black spots. -Swarming insects (24.75). Summon Swarm 2x9x562.5 = 10125 Insect Plague 5x9x750 = 11250 Totalīs 21375 gp. No material components... The next poster shows a petrified wood staff. -Transmutation (65), so I wonīt even bother. The next poster shows a staff that seems to have grown naturally into its shape. -The woodlands (101.25). Charm animal (1 charge) 1*13*375 =4875 Speak with animals (1 charge) 1*13*375 =4875 Barkskin (2 charges) 2*13*375/2 =4875 Wall of thorns (3 charges) 5*13*375/3 =8125 Summon natures ally VI (3 charges) 6*13*562.5/3 =14625 Animate plants (4 charges) 7*13*750/4 =17062.5 Okay, itīs worth 54.437,5 gp so far, out of those 101.250 gp. And Iīm using buy cost, not creation cost. The rest of its abilities are: a +2 quarterstaff (8.000 gp) and a Pass without Trace (Drd 1, Rgr 1) at will, with no charge cost. So Iīll assume itīs use-activating a 1st level spell, caster level 13th. Thatīs 26.000 gp, I wonīt get into detail with associated or not: you canīt use a staffīs spells while using a +2 quarterstaff, nor can you start a Pass without Trace in the middle of a battle unless youīre either very stupid or very hasty. -Thatīs it for staves. Soon-to-be, a skeleton in the closet. |
| Karn Dragonsbane11-29-06, 01:14 PM | Chahl places all of the scrolls in a leather bag. Then he kicks it away. One of the scrolls stays in place... With a simple movement, he shatters it into a million pieces. -Goodbye, immovable rod. Fortunately it has limited hit points. -Thanks for listening so far. Now weīre going to go hardcore. VERY hardcore. This is the worst part: here, weīll most likely go all insane. Because weīre going to go for the Wondrous Items. The catch-all cathegory, where everything else goes. I will be lost like you half of the time, and the other half Iīll be lost anyway. Some of the time Iīll find confirmation of what we already know, the rest Iīll find nothing. Perhaps youīll want to help? I hope so. He places some more posters. This set is larger than all the other ones together. -Yes, three hundred suckers. Merciless, isnīt it? -This many will do. Get yourselves coffee... because weīre about to delve in the deepest secrets of the spoooooky wizard who lives by the coast of England and rules us all. Youīll excuse me if I surrender and lack any creativity to go on with all this poster crap. He pulls down the first poster, showing all kinds of amulets. -Amulet of Health (4, 16, 36). Bonus squared x1, what the heck. -Amulet of Mighty fists (6, 24, 54, 96, 150). As a magical weapon, except it costs thrice as much. Assumes you have three natural weapons, I guess? -Amulet of Natural Armor (1, 4, 16, 36, 50). Bonus squared x1, what the heck. -Amulet of the Planes (120). Cool, ainīt it? Well. Plane shift (Clr 5, Sor/Wiz 7) at will. Caster level 15th, itīs like 150. Or, if you work under Sorcerer/Wizard, itīs like 210. The only "mitigating factor" I am capable of seeing is the DC 15 intelligence check/travel mishap possibility. The price would be like 4/5 if you assume clerical magic, and 4/7 if you assume real magic. No offense to any clerics in the audience. But since 4/7 is too much an ungodly amount of mitigation, Iīll have to assume itīs clerical magic. -Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location (35). Go-hoho. First we substract the diamond dust price, reducing 5 for the fifty charges. That leaves us with 30 worth of problems, which would represent 3 (spell level) x5 (caster level) x2 (use-activation). The next poster shows a mechanical lobster. -Apparatus of The Crab (90). Mecha-lobster will be a tough customer... but Iīm willing to defy even Gundam himself in my (un-)holy crusade. I say Gundam because heīs the only one I know... Anyway! First things first. Weīll need to animate Thingy to start this up, preferably with animate objects (Brd 6, Chaos 6, Clr 6). Minimum caster level is 16, 11, or 11. That would mean, for this spell, a price of 132, multiplied by four due to its round duration, for a total of 5-shmuck thingy. But Io, stop this nonsense! What am I saying? This is a single large object. Not eleven small ones! And then again, itīs a sole object which is animated, not a number per usage. So I judge fair to, first, change the caster level to four. That will make things cheaper, driving the price to 48, 192 after continuous. And then, divide by three, because the targets are limited. That makes it 64. Okay, weīre getting close. Now we add throw in two continual flames, for a total price of 160 gp. Iīd say these were free... So, wait! A support spell on an item reduces the price from 192 to 90. Itīs 90/192 of the price... 45/96, 15/32. FIND!!! The next poster shows a pair of bags. -Bag of holding (2.5, 5, 7.4 and 10). I canīt really explain what the heck is going on with this... perhaps itīs Leomundīs secret chest (Sor/Wiz 5). The chest was able to hold some stuff, but the limit on size was very specific. And it goes WAY past the limits on spell storage... Iīm starting to get weirded out. Wait, Iīll try something else. There MUST be a certain logic to this... Factorization might help. The 2.5 (5^4x2^2) one has 250 (2x5^3) pounds, 30 (2x3x5) cubic feet and weighs 15 (3x5) pounds. It seems... thereīs something inversely proportional between actual weight and space storage? The 5 (5^4x2^3) one has 500 (2^2x5^3) pounds, 70 (7x2x5) cubic feet, and weighs 25 (5^2) pounds. Oh, damn. You drove my hopes up... The 7.4 (2^3x5^2x37) one has 1.000 (2^3x5^5) pounds, 150 (2x3x5^5) cubic feet, and weighs 35 (7x5) pounds. Iīm starting to feel around... The 10 (2^4x5^4) one has 1.500 (2^2x3x5^5) pounds, 250 (2x5^3) cubic feet, and weighs 60 (2^2x3x5) pounds. Okay, no pattern. There should have been something, but I canīt find it. Weight and price should have mitigated the need for space, but... thereīs nothing I can find on the matter. -Bag of tricks (0.9, 3, 6.3). I can recall how f*cked I got on this, perfectly. The first one, 0.9, functions with the summon natureīs ally II (Drd 2, Rgr 2) spell, useable ten times per week. Caster level 3rd. 2x3x2, 12. And heere we go again. 12 divided by 0.9 shows us the cocient is 13.3, or 40/3. Which doesnīt solve anything, does it? Letīs see what happens with the next one. 3, caster level 5th, 3rd level spell Summon natureīs ally III (Drd 3, Rgr 3). 3x5x2, 30. And out of three, itīs ten. So weīve got two people fighting for the ten per week usage modifier: 3/40 and 4/40. The last bag, worth 6.3, shows us a caster level 9 Summon Natureīs ally V (Drd 5) spell. 5x9x2 gp is 90. Hic. 6.3/90 means it was 0.07 of the price... or... divide by 14.(285714). Okay, seems thereīs no ten/week modifier. And that drives us screwed in the head. No, wait, just me. You can make up any value you wish. The next poster shows a breakdown of a prayer bead. -Bead of force (3). Lovely, ainīt it? Use-activated, 50 gp, the result of the caster level x spell level multiplication is 60. And Otilukeīs resilient sphere (Sor/Wiz 4) is a 4th level spell. Caster level 15th? I doubt so, itīs only 10th level. So thereīs a 2nd level spell added into the mix! A 2nd level spell can deal 5d6 force in a 10 ft. radius with no save... or spell resistance? Only in magical items, it seems. FOUNDīCHA, MAN! Blast support Evocation (force) Level: Theoretical 2 Casting Time: Not applicable Range: 60 ft. Area of effect: 10 ft. radius burst Saving throw: None Spell Resistance: No This spell deals 1d6 points of damage per every two caster levels. The next poster shows some belts. -Belt of dwarvenkind (14.9). Okay, first function we can price is giving you darkvision, a +2 save bonus, limited, and a +2 to constitution. Which works if youīre not dwarven. How do we price that? Letīs first make it... 12 for continuous darkvision (Rgr 3, Sor/Wiz 2), then 4 for the resistance bonus, and 4 for constitution. However, darkvision is such a half-assed and common ability... I wish that reduced its price. Hehehe... I wish (Sor/Wiz 9), got it? No, Iīm no efreet, dangit. Lucky donkeys. Now, where were we...? How to reduce the price of darkvision, constitution boni, and resistance bonus. Divide by 3, multiply by 4. Multiply by 3/4 because dwarves canīt use it, price reduced from 20 to 15? No, I havenīt even considered that they are unrelated functions in the same item. However there must be something we can do about it... Unfortunately I have no idea what it is. -Monkīs belt (13). Stacking AC bonus, extra unarmed damage, and a feat. To me itīs cool, because Iīm a monk and Master of the Unseen Hand. But to you... would you find use for it? Perhaps. Enough gloating. The AC bonus is of another kind, and itīs easy to make it stack: make it some kind of weird bonus that nobody will think of. 2.500 gp for +1 circumstance to AC provided by a monkīs belt, and then add a modified Enlarge (Sor/Wiz 1, Strength 1) into the mix. You can twist it a bit: no reduction to dexterity, but no increase to strength. No attack and defense size-based penalty, but no increase to strength! Strength is the most useful stat there seems to be, according to the DMG. You CAN make it, the 1 minute/level duration multiplies price by 2... that means the price increases to 4.000 gp, since a higher caster level has no effect on a continuous duration. Now, the functions so far are increased damage (4.000 gp), and +1 to AC (2.500 gp). Then multiply the unrelated function by 2, and the total price is 4 for the greater damage, and 5 for the unrelated AC. That leaves 4 for the feat. Ah YES! A find! Whoo-hoo! Since itīs unrelated, Stunning Fist costs 2! Thatīs how we are, arenīt we? Wait. Stunning Fist goes like... No, dammit! It doesnīt grant stunning fist. It grants one use of the featīs contents... Which is worth 2 anyway. -Belt of Giant Strength (16 and 36). Bonus squared x1, what the hell. The next poster shows a book. -I got one of those for my birthday. Blessed book (12.5). A thousand pages at half price to ink up? Deal, dude! And Iīm not even a wizard! Secret page can hide the contents of a page as if it was something else... thus doubling storage capacity, so, double its storage capacity, so, pay for only 500 pages. The next poster shows a boat in a box. -Folding boat (7.2). Wish me luck. First Iīll try to factor-divide this. 7.2 is 2x2x2x2x2x3x3x5x5, or 2^5x3^2x5^2. And I have no clue what itīs about! It doesnīt match in its description any boat of the ones described in the Playerīs Handbook, except for the rowboat in its middle form. Thatīs worth 300 gp... what do we do with the other ones? No, no idea. The next poster shows a series of boots. -Boots of Elvenkind (2.5). +5 on move silently. 2.500 gp, bonus squared x100 gp, what the heck. -Boots of Levitation (7.5). This is a mistery... Levitating at will is worth 2x3x2. Levitating on command is worth 2x3x1.8. But itīs still a difference of just 1.2! Weīre looking for a 4.5 difference here... letīs say itīs a start 7.5/10.8 means it was divided by 1.44, gee. Or 144/100, 72/50, 36/25. -Boots of Speed (12). Nice shoes, dude. Haste, ten rounds per day, means 3x10x2, or 60, divided by (5 divided by the number of uses per day, 1 in this case) 5. Yeah, 12. -Boots of Striding and Springing (5.5). Airshoes Nike. +10 to land speed, as per longstrider (Rgr 1, Drd 1, Travel 1), and +5 competence to jump checks. Oneīs worth 2.500 gp, the other oneīs worth 2.000 gp. But theyīre unrelated, oh come on! It should cost 6.5. -Boots of Teleportation (49). Troublesome. Something has been multiplied by 7 here... or not. As I was unable to preview when I was working on the rods, 3/day doesnīt become at will multiplied by 2. It becomes at will multiplied by 5/2. Hic. So, here, weīve got boots that were once worth 81.(6), while it shouldīve been 5x9x2 / (5/3), or 54,pico . -Boots of the Winterlands (2.5). Okay, my headīs gunna hurt... again. Pass without trace (Drd 1, Rgr 1) is 2, Endure Elements is worth 1, since it lasts 24 hours, and then here comes the worst part. This is worth already 3, the properties seem related to me, as one needs only to be used once per day, then the other one can go for the rest of the day. Or I could suck it up and accept itīs worth 4. The rest is the power not to slip in ice under any circumstance, except for vertical ones. Well, we could always say that an additional 3.5 allow you to walk wherever. And then we divide by three, because iceīs not that common. -Boots, Winged (16). Three unloads of CL 5 fly (Sor/Wiz 3, Travel 3). 3x5x2... wait, itīs on command, so itīs 3x5x1.8. Thatīs 27. And then, we add the small factor of three times per day. Divide by (5/3), for a total of 16.pico. Okay. The next poster shows a bottle. - And they say air is free. Bottle of air (7.25). Can let you breathe from the bottleee... let me think. Its prerequisite is water breathing (Clr 3, Drd 3, Sor/Wiz 3, Water 3), and for cheaper, you and all your friends can use it even without water to breathe. Itīs not logical, but whatever *sigh*. The next poster shows a bowl. -Bowl of commanding water elementals (100). I can already feel the cheese. A 7th level spell, useable at caster level 13th, by word of command, is worth 163.8. Goes half-assed and requires oneīs end before the start of the next, reducing price to 1000/1638, or 500/819. Which canīt be simplified, unfortunately. The next poster shows a bracelet. -Bracelet of friends (19). Four unloads of refuge, for 19. Four foci mean 6. Four one-use use-activated unloads are worth 7x13x50x4 = 4550x4, or 18.2. Both together would be 24.2. Undercosted? The next poster shows several sets of bracers. -Bracers of Archery, Greater (25). A +2 to all your bows, a +1 to damage rolls, and proficiency with all bows is worth 25? That tells me the easiest way to get a greatbow to work! Wait. Comparing it to its lesser version, weīll find out what is each part. -Bracers of Archery, Lesser (5). A +1 to all your bows is worth 5.000 gp? Deal, dude...! Wait. Thereīs also the issue of proficiency with them in the first place. Comparing both bracers, weīll find out. Okay, [2^2xX gp + 1000xY + Z = 5 (Z + 1000 gpxX)]. Well, it seems Z, the value that handles proficiency with all bows, is worth 4.000 gp, as a +1 competence to attack rolls with bows should be worth 1.000 gp. No, wait. Since we know X is worth 1.000 gp at most, and Z adds 4.000 gp, then Z is worth 4.000 gp, unless unrelated. Then it is worth 2.000 gp. And now, for the other one. 4.000 gp attack rolls, 4.000 gp weapon proficiency, that leaves 12.000 gp, since both... NO! 16.000 gp, both are unrelated and +1 to damage is 9.000 gp!? Impossible! No, itīs impossible! Letīs assume each point is worth 2.000 gp, thatīs better. Okay, infinite bow proficiency is worth 1.5, since thereīs something unrelated here. While in the greater ones, the bonus to attack is 8, and the bonus to damage is worth 2. However it still doesnīt explain how... how is this possible!? Iīm lost. -Bracers of Armor (1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64). Bonus squared by 1, what the heck. The following poster shows a brazier. -Brazier of commanding fire elementals (100). See bowl of commanding water elementals. The following poster shows a brooch. -Brooch of Shielding (1.5). Iīd say itīs worth 4, for a continuous shield (Sor/Wiz 1), and then x3/8 because itīs charged in a strange way. The following poster shows a broom. -Broom of flying (17) Well, buddies, ītis should be obvious. 5x9x2/5 makes me think it is perhaps a bit cheap... perhaps it functions by command word. 9x1.8 is 16.2... No, thank you. The following poster shows a pair of candles. -Candle of Invocation (8.4). This one seems to work as per a gate spell, except it brings warped planar traits instead of creating a gate. -Candle of truth (2.5 ). Use-activated zone of truth (Clr 2, Pal 2). 2x3x50 gp is 300 gp, something hereīs too darn cool for you and too sexy for my shot. The area is reduced to 5 ft., and the duration is multiplied by a factor of twenty. The following poster shows a cape. -Cape of the Mountebank (10.080 gp). Okay, this gotta be a good one. After all the detail and all those zeros, this had better be good. One unload of dimension door (Brd 4, Sor/Wiz 4, Travel 4) on command word. That means 4x7x1.8/5, or 10.080 gp. At last a moment of competence. How refreshing. The following poster shows a carpet. -Carpet of flying (20, 35, 60). Each one will confuse me more than a f*cking bag of holding, so I wonīt even try. The next poster shows a censer. -Censer of Controlling Air Elementals (100). See under Bowl of Commanding Water Elementals. The next poster shows a gemstone... and Chahl is transfixed for a moment. -Chaos Diamond (160). The me diamond confuse is chaos to trying. The has start, following diamond to the powers. Confusion, lesser (Brd 1), Magic against law circle (Chaos 3, Clr 3, Sor/Wiz 3), chaos word of (Chaos 7, Clr 7), of cloak chaos (Chaos 8, Clr 8). Once per each power is day usable. Calculated them be. 1x19x2 (confusion), 3x19x2, 7x19x2, 8x19x2, U guess. Or be it (1+3+7+8)x38, mean which 19*38, boeing 722. Reduced greatly because it beinīt at will, even per once day not suffice. Price be too low... Once each day means per 144.4... What the hell was I saying? Sorry. The next poster shows a pair of chimes. -Chime of Interruption (16.8). As per violent motion? I donīt get it at all. -Chime of Opening (3). Ten unloads of knock (Sor/Wiz 2), so... each unload would be worth 300 gp, right? 2x3x50 gp IS that amount. Even if the caster level for the chime is 11th. The next poster shows a trio of circlets. -Circlet of Blasting, Minor (6.48). A blast of searing light (Clr 3, Sun 3), 1/day, caster level 6th, on command. 3x5x1.8/5 is, 5.4! somethingīs... oh, sorry. 3x6x1.8/5 is 6.48. -Circlet of Blasting, Major (23.76). A blast of searing light (Clr 3, Sun 3), maximized for 40 points of damage, caster level 17th, would be 6x17x1.8/5, or 36.72. Somethingīs wrong... I got it! The caster level should be 11! -Circlet of Persuasion (4.5). A +3 competence bonus on every Charisma-based skill, which shoulda mean kind of 900 gp per skill. There are eight such skills: Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, Gather Information, Handle Animal, Intimidate, Perform, and Use Magic Device. Shall we consider Perform two skills? Nobody has more than two skills in perform. And if they have, they shouldnīt. Well, 900 gp for main, then 900*8 skills / 2 (you canīt intimidate and perform while you use a magic device and handle an animal, disguised and acting in-character telling lies and trying to sway somebodyīs attitude, except if you have some REALLY screwed up orchestra-man class feature) for related usage, for a total of 3.600 gp plus main function. Yeah, itīs all right. The next poster shows a series of cloaks. -Cloak of Arachnida (14). It allows you to spider climb (Drd 2, Sor/Wiz 2) like some weird and screwed spider, and then again, it lets you web (Sor/Wiz 2) at foes, but once per day. Ah, I forgot thereīs the additional +2 luck bonus against spider venom. Thatīs worth, according to the rule that limited save boni were worth 300 gp by bonus squared, 1.2. Heck. Well, webbing at foes would be worth a neat 2.4. The action abilities are NOT multiplied, since they could come from anywhere, even stuff put into your belt. And the 1.2 are nicely multiplied. So, 4.8 comes from the actions. And the remaining 9.2 is the price of the spider climb? How can it be so cheap? Iīm envious! -Cloak of the Bat (26). First power is to bestow a +5 competence bonus on hide checks: 2.5. Then there comes the polymorph, usable only without light, which is half the time. Half-time, half-price, I guess, since time is money. Polymorph (Sor/Wiz 4) is 4th level, 4x7x2, 56... Gīho. Half-time, half-price... 28. And then, reduce the price by 1/4, so as to... I dunno... stop the wearer from using it at will. Fly (Sor/Wiz 3, Travel 3), consider it subsumed. -Cloak of Charisma (4, 16, 36). Bonus squared by 1.000 gp, what the heck. -Cloak of Displacement, Minor (24). I want to protest against this crapīs existence. Itīs merely a blur (Brd 2, Sor/Wiz) spell! It provides a 20% miss chance, and its price is 2x3x2 x2 (minute duration), exactly 24! WHAT is displaced here, huh? -Cloak of Displacement, Major (50). Here we go again. I donīt recommend adding metamagic into magical items, myself. And you? Thereīs an extra round in there. Displacement (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 3), extended. 4th level spell, CL 7, use-activated, worth 56, except for the 1/day, which makes it worth MUCH less. 5.6, actually. -Cloak of Elvenkind (2.5). Competence bonus to skill, bonus squared x100 gp, what the hell. -Cloak of Etherealness (55). However the heck this was done, it was done wrong. The prerequisite, Ethereal Jaunt, shows us a 1 round/level duration. Ten minutes? Thatīs a hunnerd rounds. At caster level 15, thatīs a suckered six and two-thirds charges per day. Extend them, and thatīs three and a third charges. Itīs done wrong, however the heck it was done. I donīt really know what does this work in base to. -Cloak of the Manta Ray (7.2). Become an ungodly manta ray at will, with just the need for water. 4x7x2 is 56, right? Well, divide by 7.(7), somehow. Whatever. -Cloak of Resistance (1, 4, 9, 16, 25). Bonus squared by 1.000 gp, what the heck. The next poster shows a crystal ball. -You-know-what (42, 50, 51, 70, 80). Scrying (Brd 3, Clr 5, Drd 3, Sor/Wiz 4), its main prerequisite would mean 56. Wait, thatīs not right. Letīs see whatīs wrong. 42 = 2x3x7... Somehow, this thing is worth 3/4 of what it should be worth actually. I donīt know how... Once somebody tells me, this will be a credited FIND. The next poster shows a set of large dice. -Cube of force (62). Nice, isnīt it? 90.000 gp for whatever amount of wall of force (Sor/Wiz 5) you wish, and this oneīs worth 62. Canīt guess how, really canīt. Except for it has 60 daily rounds of Wall of Force: six usages at 10th caster level, or three if extended from 10th. But minimum to extend is 11th... ah, heck! No can do. -Cube of Frost Resistance (27). For some reason, the protection from elements spell (Clr 3, Drd 3, Luck 3, Protection 3, Rgr 2, Sor/Wiz 3) resists up to 50 hp damage. And 100 hp damage in 10 rounds destroys it outright. Cool, ainīt it? Useless and freakish. 3*5*2 would result in a foolproof thingy that, for marginally more, would provide you with 50 tempos every time you wanted. -Cubic Gate (164). And here letīs go nuts. First, the plane shift spell at will use-activated (double click on your square mouse) would mean 5x9x2. But this ainīt the case, is it? Iīm afraid it is. This cube contains six focuses too, doesnīt it? Whatever. The save DC is 23... as per a 9th level spell. But the caster level is too high! 164, let me see if I can see whatīs with it. 164 = 2x2x41. 41 is a cute prime number! AAAARGH! The next poster shows a skull. -Darkskull (60). A continuous Unhallow (Clr 5, Drd 5). Instantaneous duration, lasts forever. Cool. 2/3 for a spell like Continual Flame (Clr 3 Sor/Wiz 2). Nevermind. The next poster shows a decanter. -Decanter of Endless Water (9). Create and control water? Nonsense. The next poster shows a deck. -Deck of Illusions (8.1). Thirty-four loads of major image (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 3). Each charge would be worth... 3x6x50 gp, or 900 gp. Nine charges, it would be? Thereīs something loose here. The next poster shows a set of shackles. -Dimensional Shackles (28). Normal manacles, their dimensional anchor effect doesnīt take an attack roll, and wonīt work if you have to make one. Cool, ainīt it? That reduces the price from 56 to 28 despite the x2! So, from "attack roll" to "on willing or helpless target" reduces the price to 1/4? FIND! The next poster shows drums. -Drums of Panic (30). They arenīt a 3x5x2 third level spell, theyīre a 4x7x2 4th level one, fear (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 4). At half price, almost. Lovely, ainīt this stuff? The next poster shows several small pouches. -Dust of Appearance (1.8). Unload of glitterdust (Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 2). 1.800 = 2x2x2x3x3x5x5, 2 are from the caster level, 5 from the caster level, and the rest is 2x2x3x3x5, or 180. No, wait. Perhaps itīs 2x3x50 gp x 6... Six unloads of three rounds. But no, not that. -Dust of Dissapearance (3.5). Bestows greater invisibility on its target (Brd 4, Sor/Wiz 4). Good. 4x7 (average effects of duration, which is directly proportional to caster level) x125. God knows how did it get like that... might be 50 gp for the greater invisibility, 50 gp for the next effect, which bypasses invisibility purge (Clr 3) and see invisibility (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 2). -Dust of Dryness (0.85). Control Water (Clr 4, Drd 4, Sor/Wiz 6, Water 4), its prerequisite, blacks out 2 feet deep. Destructive, ainīt it? 850 gp would be 17 x 50 gp... NO, NOT AGAIN! NOT ANOTHER PRIME NUMBER! -Dust of Illusion (1.2). Two hours of a basic glamer, disguise self (Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1, Trickery 1). Divide by 1, for the spell level, divide by six, for the caster level, we have 200. Divide by 50, for the use-activate, we have 4. Darnit, Iīm lost. -Dust of Tracelessness (250gp). Uses Pass without Trace (Drd 1, Rgr 1). SL 1, CL 3, it should be 150 gp, but 100 added gp for the other effect. The next poster shows a quiver. -Efficient Quiver (1.8). Donīt even do the try; thereīs nothing to compare it to. The next poster shows a flask. -Efreeti Bottle (145). Once per day, ten minutes of efreeti. Heck, itīs somewhat insane, ainīt it? The prerequisite spell canīt bind enough efreet to the bottle! Anyway, since itīs once per day... Iīll assume itīs for granted. If it wasnīt once per day, why not keep opening the bottle until all your wishes are fulfilled, killing every insane genie and dismissing the serving ones? Anyway, no idea how to go about this... A summon monster VII (Sor/Wiz 7) would be worth like 7x13x2, or 182. Take for granted itīs once per day, and you can, for 145/182 of the price, summon something else. The next poster shows a gem. -Elemental Gem (2.250 gp). It casts summon natureīs ally V (Drd 5) when crushed. That makes it worth 5x9x50 gp. Exactly. I feel kind of dumb, just assuring what is already there. The next poster shows a series of elixir bottles. -Elixir of Fire Breath (1.1). Casts scorching ray (Sor/Wiz 2) on abusive drinker, caster level 11, duh. -Elixir of Hiding (0.25). Here it seems, from 5, it has become 0.25 to make it last for eight hours. -Elixir of Love (0.15). Caster level 4th Charm Person, 1st level spell. However, the cost is calculated as per a 3rd level spell... 3/4 if intended for use as a trap? -Elixir of Sneaking (0.25). See elixir of hiding. -Elixir of Swimming (0.25). See elixir of hiding. -Elixir of Truth (0.5). Caster level 5th Zone of Truth (Clr 2, Pal 2). 2x5x50 gp, thatīs it. -Elixir of Vision (0.25). See elixir of hiding. The next poster shows a bottle. -Eversmoking bottle (5.4). A modified version of Pyrotechnics on some ready fire... Caster level 3rd, yet itīs priced by only half of what it should be. Perhaps because it doesnīt have any agressive effects? The next poster shows a pair of crystal lenses. No, many. -Eyes of Charming (56). Heightened to 4th Charm Person, duh. -Eyes of Doom (25). Doom (Clr 1) available for use as long as you wish. Iīd not say it scales with level: not many combats last for more than one minute (and if it scaled, itīd be worth more than the whole pair). Then you add a continuous deathwatch (Clr 1), which is worth 3, and then we add into the mix the last ingredient: Once per week *sigh*, you can use a fear gaze attack. In this case... the caster level is eleventh. Iīd say you donīt watch how dead someone is while you cast a gaze on him, since you knew that from before (unless youīre VERY special). That would mean the deathwatch and doom were worth 25, while the fear gaze was ignored. But something got a cap there... And I donīt know what it is. -Eyes of the Eagle (2.5). Bonus squared x 0.1, what the heck. -Eyes of Petrification (98). Deadly stuff. Flesh to stone, 6x11x2.000 gp, is 132. But only ten rounds per day, so 98/132? 49/66... Meh. No idea. The next poster shows several figurines. -Figurines of Wondrous Power (varies, varying, various). -Bronze griffon (10). A griffon, HD 7;CR 4;ECL+3 for 6 hours, 2/week, is worth that. -Ebony fly (10). A hipogriff, HD3;CR2;ECL- for 6 hours 2/week is worth that, even being less useful than the higher one. -Golden Lions (16.5). Two lions, always in a pair. One hour/day of 2 lions, HD 5;CR3;ECL- is worth that. -Ivory goats (21). Always together, my worst nightmare. No, I wonīt even bother. -Marble Elephant (17). 4/month, 24 hours at a time, HD 11; CR 7; ECL -. And theyīre costlier than actual elephants. -Obsidian Steed (28.5). A heavy warhorse (400 gp) with three overpowered spell-like abilities, at the mere expense of running out of patience if youīre a good guy. Useable 1/week for up to 24 hours. -Onyx Dog (15.5). A neat dog, with a +4 to two abilities worth 3.2, darkvision (Rgr 2, Sor/Wiz 2) worth 12, and see invisibility (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 2) worth 18. But itīs not for you, so itīs cheaper, I guess. -Serpentine Owl (9.1). Three unloads of scrying, it would seem... but the giant owl form is the only one which takes charges. Darn. -Silver Raven (3.8). Continuous, on command, animal messenger (Brd 2, Drd 2, Rgr 1). The limit seems almost cosmetic, so to speak... and the stupid hardness... STUPID hardness... No can do, itīs too cheap! |
| Karn Dragonsbane12-16-06, 09:42 AM | And then, Chahl returns for a while. -Wait, I missed something. He pulls down a poster, which shows him getting a kick in his rear. -A cursed poster, you know? Iīd rather not even try. Amulet of Inescapable Location (1). Iīm glad this thing exists... It provides a -10 penalty against divination spells. 10^2 x 10 gp, or -10 x -100 gp. As you wish, soon we shall know... except the caster level is 10th, so you at least know it! -Armor of Arrow Attraction (9). A +3 full plate, -15 against missiles. Itīs worth 19.650 gp, but itīs worth 10.650 gp less due to the -15. Iīd say the first thing was forgetting the material cost, for a total of 1.650 gp, and then, itīs worth /2 for providing a -15, or perhaps -9. But 9 is 3x3x2x2x2x5x5x5, so 15 squared (3x5) fits as a... 40? Situational penalties to AC are worth penalty squared x40 gp...? FI-FI-FI-FIIIIND! But wait a moment! Caster level is 16th, so you need to have Penalty +1 as your Caster Level! -Armor of Rage (1.65). Whoa... huh... a -4 penalty to Charisma, a +1 bonus on attack rolls against oneself... on a +1 full plate. So, from 3050 gp, we drop 1.400 gp. And thereīs a bonus to attack rolls... this is starting to get fishy. Letīs stuff a +1 bonus to attack rolls and a -4 penalty to charisma together... HEY! No, wait! The charisma penalty and attack bonus together are worth 2.000 gp...! The armor itself is worth alone 1.650 gp. No finds, duh. -Bag of devouring (???). In fact we canīt make this. -Boots of dancing (30). OK, an 8th level spell. Thatīs worth 240 to make continuous for 1 hour/level, but we are talking about an offensive spell on a sucker stupid enough to don it. So itīs worth /8... /4 by time modifier inversed because of offensive nature, /2 by willingness... -Bracers of defenselessness (1.2). Gee. Cruel as hell, well, yell. 1.200 is 2x2x2x2x3x5x5. So, a fulltime -5 penalty to AC is worth... hmm... 48 gp x bonus squared, Iīd say. -Broom of Animated Attack (5.2). In fact this thing looks like a creature, and I wonīt try to decreate it. -Cloak of Poisonousness (62). One use worth of a DC 28 spell...? Thatīs a 12th level spell! What the hell! Limited wish or miracle as a prerequisite? That might be it. The poison spellīs save DC is equal to half the casterīs level, Iīll assume the other spell adds four to the save DC, and also increases the relevant ability modifier to that of a 9th level spell, just to be nice. That would mean, arrmmm... DC 10 +3 (poison) +8 (caster level) +3 (limited wishīs presence), +4 (minimum ability score for miracle). This still assumes poison adds the base save DC for a 3rd level spell to half the wielderīs caster level for the save DC... -Crystal Hypnosis Ball (Whatever). Whatever. -Dust of Sneezing and Choking (2.4). My, my. Canīt reduce this. -Flask of Curses (2.1). An use-activated area attack, reduced in strength to account for reduced range. Strangely, the will save is accounted for a 5th level spell. So, 2.1 is 2x2x3x5x5x7. A 5th level spell, at a 1 gp function, would be at 60x7 caster level. Honestly I believe it is at 7th caster level, and 60 gp for its function. It even says so in the caster level! FIND! -Gauntlets of fumbling (1.3). The basic function they perform is a bit more costly, but we can handle that for free, it seems. A -2 thing and a bestow curse spell... 4x7x50 gp, single use, is worth more than the gloves. Iīd say itīs a bit stronger at slightly less cost because it takes a feat, duh. -Helm of Opposite Alignment (4). Only once does it take effect, so itīs worth 50 gp by caster and spell level, whose multiplication is 80. But the caster level is 12th... so the spell level is... does not compute... Spell level 6,5...? H...ow...? Maddening. -Incense of obsession (200 gp). No further reductions. -Mace of Blood (16). Worth 18.300 something gp. Discard the 300 gp, and reduce the price by 2.000 gp (to 8/9) for two effects. -Medallion of Thought Projection (1.800 gp). Well, itīs two nonscaling cantrips: "Hear whatever crap", and "Hey Iīm Thinking Here". Neither is too useful, neither is worth scaling. Neither obstructs or stacks, so have fun. -Necklace of Strangulation (60). Deadly, ainīt it? The easiest way to remove it is by damaging it, Iīd say. Even the worst cursed item isnīt indestructible, at least not to onlookers. Whatever! Iīd say it deals 1 point of damage per 10. -Net of Snaring (10). A +3 net, but nets deal no damage. So consider it worth what a suit of armor... as for water, itīs so situational weīll divide by 1.1. Iīd say, then, shooting forth to entrap a creature would be worth 2.000 gp. -Periapt of Foul Rotting (17). Worth little for its destructive power. But it canīt be reduced anymore. -Potion of Poison (5). Iīm baffled: this thing is created as such? Itīs also worthlessly high in price... and created with the wrong feat! Poison, at CL 10th, considering it a 3rd level spell, is worth 1.5. If this is a wondrous item, itīs 4x7x50 gp for single use, or 1.400 gp. -Robe of Powerlessness (5.5). Cwapp. Canīt tell whatīs this about. -Robe of Vermin (16.5). Cloaks of protection donīt exist, hehehe... The other function seems to be Summon Swarm (Brd 2, Drd 2, Sor/Wiz 2), minus the swarm, continuous, and offending the user. So, thatīs worth 16.500 gp. -Ring of Clumsiness (0.5). I never use my hands for fine manipulation anyway... so, 1.5 substracted for a heavy clumsiness curse? Canīt reduce it. -Scarab of Death (80). Whoa. Slays you, or 3d6 damage. Like... someone I know. Slay Living (Clr 5, Death 5). And, since caster level is irrelevant here, letīs treat it as 9th caster level despite it is 19th... and somehow, increase its save DC to that of a 10th level spell, as well as changing the save type. No, canīt do. -Spear, Cursed Backbiter (7.5). Substract 500 gp for worsened critical misses. -Stone of Weight (1). Canīt be reduced. -Sword -2, cursed (1.5). Cool... I donīt get it. 1.5 is 2x2x3x5x5x5. So, penalty squared by -375 gp? -Greatsword +2, Berserking (17.5). Now finally Iīm seeing something I like. Eternal berserking at the price of everyone having to take a move before the battle ends for 9.5? Cool! -Vacuous Grimoire (6). Canīt reduce it anymore. Finally, Chahl looks at the audience. -Thanks a lot. This time for real, Iīm gone. And he exits running. |
| Wuggadad12-18-06, 01:00 AM | "-Deck of Illusions (8.1). Thirty-four loads of major image (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 3). Each charge would be worth... 3x6x50 gp, or 900 gp. Nine charges, it would be? Thereīs something loose here." Use Wand based charges, ie, 750 for 50 charges, or 510 for 34 charges, x3x6 is 9180. 510 x3x5 is 7650. Me baffled too. |
| Karn Dragonsbane12-18-06, 04:13 PM | (I thought this was posted... fortunately I always carry spare posts for everything I have ever posted!) The next poster shows a series of feathers. -Feather Token (many). -Anchor (50 gp). It just keeps getting harder and harder, doesnīt it? See if I give up. But I designed THIS out of it! Anchor (conjuration) Level: Virtual 1 Range: Touch Target: Ship touched The ship touched is rendered immobile for one day. -Bird (300 gp). Like a homing pigeon, like the metro of Madrid. I have no idea what the hell got into someoneīs brain when he designed this. Iīll assume itīs a weird kind of animal messenger (Brd 2, Drd 2, Rgr 1). -Fan (200 gp). And it keeps on getting worse. A fan that lasts for eight hours isnīt copy-able by gust of wind (Drd 2, Sor/Wiz 2). Crappy, ainīt the idea? Because guess what? No, I canīt do it! -Swan boat (450 gp). An unload of major creation (Sor/Wiz 5), except itīs worth a fifth of what it should. Well, I gotta admit a swan boat isnīt always useful, like an unload of major creation is. A swan boat canīt really be used to bypass damage reduction /adamantine, for example, nor can it be used as a 10-foot pole. -Tree (400 gp). Thatīs the price for a portable tree? -Whip (500 gp). Now Iīm lost. The next poster shows a pair of gauntlets. -Gauntlet of Ogre Power (4). Bonus squared x1, what the heck. -Gauntlet of Rust (11.5). First comes the rust attack: 4x7x2, 56, divided by five, 5.6. Then comes another 5.9 for rust invulnerability of any kind. FIND! The next poster shows a pair of gems. -Gem of Brightness (13). Assuming the old method about staves, this should be a breeze. Strongest ability is worth the base, second strongest is worth as a related property. Divide by five the strongest due to the number of charges, and... The blast of lightīs save DC is that of a 3rd level spell. So is the other one. Iīll assume 3x6x1/5, and 3x6x1/2. Sounds fine... about 13. -Gem of Seeing (75). The main prerequisite is True Seeing (Clr 5, Drd 7, Knowledge 5, Sor/Wiz 6), which is used at 10th caster level. So itīs a clerical spell. 5x10x2, three charges per day. This would mean... divide by 5/3, or multiply by three and divide by five. Thatīs a mere 60, compared to the 75 this crap seems to be worth. The next poster shows some gloves. -Gloves of Arrow Snaring (4). Priced as a continuous shield... does anybody get any ideas? I donīt. -Gloves of Dexterity (4, 16, 36). Bonus squared x1.000 gp, heck. -Glove of Storing (10). Nice stuff... I donīt know how it is priced. -Gloves of Swimming and Climbing (6.25). +5 to both things, and itīs priced as 6.25. I wonder why? It would be cheaper to make two sets of gloves. You canīt swim and climb at the same time, can you? But one of them is worth 3.75, which is 1.5 times the price of its bonus. The next poster shows some goggles. -Goggles of Minute Seeing (1.25 ). For someth reason, itīs worth only half of what it should. -Goggles of Night (12). Darkvision (Rgr 3, Sor/Wiz 2) continuous, what the heck. The next poster shows another book. -Golem Manual (various). Okay, letīs go. -Clay Golem Manual (12). Looky, a Clay Golem construction set! Lovely, ainīt it? Twelve favors, for a thing worth forty. Provides 1.540 XP, which are worth 7.700 gp. But there are 4.300 gp more, for the four spells... their levels are 6 (Animate objects), 1 (bless), 5 (commune), 3 (prayer) and 7 (resurrection). So, level total is 22. 4.300/22 = 195.something. No, I mustīve done something wrong... theyīre spell trigger items (750 for 50 charges), but when we do stuff use-activated, a single charge costs 50 gp, out of 2 for 100 charges. So, 50/2000 is 5/200, is 1/40. 1/40 of 750 is 18.75... unfortunately that would lower the price of a spell trigger item under that of a spell completion item. Which Iīm simply not-going-to-accept. Letīs just calculate as a spell completion and say weīre being generous for it, okay? 4.300 gp, divided by 25 gp, leaves us with 172. Nope luckpe. Thatīd mean about 22 spell levels and 7.(81) caster level. Somethingīs capped here... perhaps everything. No, Iīm dizzy. -Flesh Golem Manual (8). Iīve already proven myself unable to do it. -Iron Golem Manual (35). No, thank you. -Stone Golem Manual (22). Drop dead. -Stone Golem Manual, Greater (44). Go fish. The next poster shows a few hands. -Hand of Glory (8). Thereīs something good here! Two known abilities and an unknown one... The abilities are neither related nor unrelated; theyīre just here. First ability is daylight (Brd 3, Clr 3, Drd 3, Pal 3, Sor/Wiz 3), caster level 5th. Once per day, spell-like ability. Thatīs worth 6. Then there comes See invisibility (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 2), which weīll consider capped. Twelve favors, reduced to once per day, is worth 2.4. Heck. And here goes something... its power to shift the place of the neck into the fingers. So your neck becomes a finger, hahaha... eh. A cheaper version of it because it allows you an extra ring? -Hand of the Mage (0.9). Spell level x caster level x 1.800 gp, what the heck. The next poster shows a backpack. -Handy Haversack (2). No idea. The next poster shows a harp. -Harp of Charming (7.5). Suggestion (Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 3). In this case, Iīll assume it was of bardic make. Minimum caster level for a 2nd level bard spell: 4th. 2x4 or 3x5? I take 2x4. And even then, I donīt know how does it go down to 7.5. The next poster shows a hat. -Hat of Disguise (1.8). Spell level by caster level by command word multiplier, what the heck. The next poster shows a headband. -Headband of Intellect (4, 16, 36). Bonus squared by 1, what the heck. The next poster shows a helmet... no, a lot of helmets. -Helm of Brilliance (125). My sight hurts after this... Okay, first things first. Letīs start by what we know. First, its continuous powers. Its resist energy (Clr 2, Drd 2, Fire 3, Pal 2, Rgr 1, Sor/Wiz 2) power, for example, is worth 44, we know it. Then here comes the flaming weapon property... which weīll leave for the end. And now. The bluish light power starts with detect undead (Clr 1, Pal 1, Sor/Wiz 1) reshaped for the sake of coolness, followed by disrupt undead (Sor/Wiz 0). Sickeningly, the attack has been reshaped to an area-of-effect. It doesnīt allow spell resistance, nor a saving throw, but it sucks anyway, so letīs set it as a 2nd level spell, just because it can deal damage to multiple creatures... wait, as a rule of thumb, there was somewhere a thing about a reduced number of possible targets reducing the spell by one level, so itīs one level, because it works only against undead. And if it scales, you say, Iīm going to laugh in your face, hard, until I choke. Okay, thatīs 8, since damaging spells are always round durations. Unrelated, that makes 44, plus 8x2. And then, we have another power. But before, we will have to calculate *sigh* that massive array of crap the helm has just for the sake of coolness. Ten diamonds, ten prismatic sprays (Sor/Wiz 7), mean, 7x13x50x10 gp. Thatīs already 45.500 gp. Then we have twenty walls of fire (Drd 5, Sor/Wiz 4), worth 52. And then, thirty fire opals, I mean... fireballs... hey, if a fire opal is a fireball, an opal is a BALL! FIND!!! Mages have opals for balls! Hehee, sorry... Anyway. Fireball (Sor/Wiz 3), caster level 13th... Reflex DC 20!? Heightened to 7th?!? The thing is broken, and I havenīt even had to finish. -Helm of Comprehend Languages and Read Magic (5.2). I smell a break. First, it helps you comprehend languages, as per the spell comprehend languages (Brd 1, Clr 1, Sor/Wiz 1). Continuous, it costs 3. And then, read magic (Brd 0, Clr 0, Drd 0, Pal 1, Rgr 1, Sor/Wiz 1) is worth 1.5 continuous. I doubt both are active at once; itīs either written in arcane or in another language. So, itīs 3.75 by now. And, letīs get to the last effect. +5 competence bonus in deciphering scripts... which would be useful for me. But thatīd be 2.5... If it canīt be active at the same time, itīs worth 5. -Helm of Telepathy (27). A continuous detect thoughts (Brd 2, Knowledge 2, Sor/Wiz 2) is worth 24. An additional suggestion (Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 3) per day is worth 6... or 16/5 (3.2). That doesnīt explain yet the ability to send telepathic messages or to turn phantasms back to their casters. -Helm of Teleportation (73.5). Caster level by spell level by 2 divided by (5 divided by 3, uses per day). Thatīs 90 divided by 5/3, or 90x3/5. Only 54, why so costly? -Helm of Underwater Action (57). On command, continous water breathing (Clr 3, Drd 3, Sor/Wiz 3, Water 3). Cool, ainīt it? Lasts for... 2 hours/level. Okay... thatīs enough to make it worth x1. 3x5x1.8 is 27, and 30 more for five times more sight. The next poster shows a lot of horns. -And none of those is mine, mind you. Horn of Blasting (20). Creates a shout (Brd 4, Sor/Wiz 4) effect, caster level 7th. 4x7x1.8 is 50.4. But the horn costs just 20! 20/50.4, 10/25.2, 5/12.6 is the modifier for a cumulative 20% chance of self-destruction dealing you 10d6 damage. FIND! -Horn of Blasting, Greater (70). Lovely, isnīt it? The greater shout (Brd 6, Sor/Wiz 8) effectīs save DC tells us of a bardīs creation. Itīs a 6th level spell, cast at 16th caster level. Thatīs 6x16x1.8 for 172.8. But the price is just 70! 70/172.8 is 35/86.4, is 17.5/43.2, whatever. Comparing to the other one, itīs about 40%. FIND! -Horn of Fog (2). Missed the caster level; should be 6. -Horn of Goodness/Evil (6.5). Well, blow it. It produces an effect for magic circle against good (Clr 3, Evil 3, Sor/Wiz 3) if youīre evil (-30%), once per day. Once per day use-activated is 6, but this is worth only 7/10 of it... or 4.2. And another function, unrelated, because the horn itself can be blown only once per day, worth half that. the magic circle against evil (Clr 3, Good 3, Pal 3, Sor/Wiz 3), for the measly price of 2.1, or 6.3 total. Fortunately itīs rounded to the nearest 500. -Horn of the Tritons (15.1). I already feel a flashback incoming... get away from me, you freak... no, I wonīt give in... ARGH, A PRIME NUMBER! NOOO! GET AWAY FROM ME!!! Sorry, needed to do that. Well, the creator must be a triton or get aid from a triton... reduce by 30%, perhaps, as per class/alignment requirement? Thatīd mean about... no, canīt do it. -Horn of Valhalla (50). Another weekly modifier? Cool. Letīs see what do I do about it. It basically imitates roughly a Summon Monster VI (Brd 6, Clr 6, Sor/Wiz 6). Letīs assume barbarian HD is as powerful as outsider HD, when the character has that equipment. Well, now, talking about barbarians... nice people. Over par HD, low saves, nice attack, cool class features... Strange, the Summon Monster IV (Brd 4, Clr 4, Sor/Wiz 4) spell calls yeth hounds... and large sharks! Large fiendish sharks have 7 HD... cute, arenīt they? Pesky little buggers, always trying to bite me. Sometimes even managing to do it. Anyway, they are good for a measure near barbarian power. Gee. Hic. Hic. Assume Summon Monster VI can call 1d4+1 creatures from the IV list... that explains the power of the strongest horn, the iron one. So, once per week blow a Summon Monster VI lasting for 1 hour...? Caster level 13th... 13 rounds out of 600. I doubt... perhaps counting it as continuous, yet only once per week... Thatīd be 6x11 (CL 13 is useless, it seems) x1.8 (command word) x 4 (continuous), or 475.2. And once per week gets it to 50/475.2. No idea... As for the other horns, one of them calls 2d4 barbarians of a lower level. That logic of 1 = 1d4 again, as per the Chaos Diamond? Or... right, it takes a lower level. And then, add 1 barbarian per level under. Thatīll give you much more useless help. Wait, I forgooot! Class requirement. 332.640 gp base, once per week would be 50/332.64. No, no idea. I should stop hitting the arborean wine... The next poster shows a set of horseshoes. -Horseshoes of Speed (3). Uses haste (Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 3), but at caster level 3. I think they used the wrong spell, expeditious retreat (Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1) isnīt limited to humanoid targets. Itīd be worth 4, double because duration is 1 minute per level, yet... itīs horse footwear, cīmon! It will fairly cost 3/4 of the price... FIND! -Horseshoes of a Zephyr (6). As per levitate (Sor/Wiz 2), but, well, damn. It should be worth 24, 2nd level continuous spell lasting 1 minute/level. But itīs worth 1/4 of that. 3/4 for being horse footwear, and 1/3 for being... damn, damn, damn, canīt think... Ah, yeah! Unlike the spell of the same name, it canīt be used to get you off melee range! So, no obvious combat uses divides by 3? FIND! The next poster shows a pile of dust inside a stylized container. -Incense of Meditation (4.9). God, I truly dunno how did they go about this. -Instant Fortress (55). Neither here. The next poster shows a set of stones. -Ioun Stones (varielle). This will be a bit long. -Clear Spindle (4). Another version of the ring of sustenance... worth obviously less. The only function of the ring of sustenance was worth 2.5, here it takes no space, and even then it is worth less than /2. One of them is wrong. -Dusty Rose Prism (5). Lovely, ainīt it? +1 insight to AC. Weird kind of bonus to AC is worth 2.5 x bonus squared. In this case, 2.5. Double because no slot. -Deep Red Sphere (8). Bonus squared x1 x2, what the heck. -Incandescent Blue Sphere (8). Bonus squared x1 x2, what the heck. -Pale Blue Rhomboid (8). Bonus squared x1 x2, what the heck. -Pink Rhomboid (8). Bonus squared x1 x2, what the heck. -Pink and Green Sphere (8). Bonus squared x1 x2, what the heck. -Scarlet and Blue Sphere (8). Bonus squared x1 x2, what the heck. -Dark Blue Rhomboid (10). Grants you Alertness (as the feat). It should be worth 5, it seems! FIND! -Vibrant Blue Prism (36). Stores three levels of spells, as per a bonus slot, 3rd level, worth 18. For free, you can mixīnīmatch as much as you will. And for double the price, youīll need no slot for it. -Iridescent Spindle (18). So, airlessness is worth 9? FIND! -Pale Lavender Ellipsoid (20). Absorbs spells of 4th level or lower, up to 20 levels. So, it would have been worth 10 if it had used a space? Cool. -Pearly White Spindle (20). Regenerates 1 point of damage per hour. So, regeneration 1/hour is worth 10? FIND! -Pale Green Prism (30). +1 competence bonus to attack rolls, saves, skill checks and ability checks. Iīll assume, since it is already no-slotted, extra powers are added without any extra. Thatīs 15, then, total. Substracting the +1 competence to skill checks, since the skill list contains 45 (folding Craft and Perform into a single one, as most spellsī usage), Iīll assume they were worth 4.5. That leaves us with 10.5 for attack rolls, saves and ability checks. A +1 to all ability scores would be worth 6: itīs only used on checks, nothing else (like skills, derived numbers, or whatever). so the effective +2 would be lowered to 1/4 price. That leaves us with 4.5 for attack rolls and saves. Consider save boni not derived from resistance to be worth twice that resistance ones, and we get 2 for the saves and 2.5 for attack rolls. That might help with the bracers of archery. -Orange Prism (30). +1 caster level is worth 15? FIND! -Lavender and Green Ellipsoid (40). Absorbs spells of 8th level or lower, up to 50 spell levels. Somethingīs got fifty charges? So itīs worth 40 (/2 due to lack of space, x2 due to 50 charges) for an eternal version! Golems, I envy you not! FIND! -Iron Bands of Binding (26). As per Bigbyīs grasping hand (Sor/Wiz 7, Strength 7)? 1/day, plus chance of destruction? Let me check. 7x13x2, or 192. Somewhere, thereīs a divider by 7! Mixed in the divider by 5... Divide by 5, divide by 1.4? That would mean, destruction chanceīs worth divide by 1.4? FIND! -Iron Flask. The prerequisites include my favourite attack spell, Trap the Soul (Sor/Wiz 8), although the save DC is a bit low for my taste. Itīs calculated as per a 6th level spell, foī crying out loud! No, no idea. -Lantern of Revealing (30). Invisibility purge (Clr 3) is its only effect. As cool as it is, it should be worth 60. Minute duration and all that. -Lens of Detection (3.5). Two +5 boni are worth 3.75, unless youīre using them at once. I canīt search while tracking, and you? -Lyre of Building (13). We had a debate shortly ago about it. Unfortunately, thereīs no way to calculate neither of its powers. The next poster shows two mantles. -Mantle of Faith (70). Grants posessor DR 5/evil. DR 5/good, how much? The same? FIND! -Mantle of Spell Resistance (90). SR 21. Points beyond 12 x 10.000 gp, what the heck. The next poster shows a series of books with lines to body parts. -Manual of Bodily Health, Manual of Gainful Exercise, Manual of Quickness of Action: (27.5, 55, 82.5, 110, 137.5). What could I say? Itīs a perfect multiplier of 27.500 each time. 25.000 gp for each 5.000 XP, 2.500 gp for a use-activated wish. You donīt even need to be able to read and write, strangely! 2.500/50, for use-activated stuff, is 50. A 9th level spell at 5.5th caster level? Theyīre fine anyway, I guess. Perhaps it should be 9x17x50 gp, or 7650 gp, but itīs not a real wish, itīs a mere inherent bonus. So, 1/3 of the full utility of a wish. Rounded down to lose 50 gp... Youīre just fine. -Marvelous Pigments (4). Twice the 2 it can create, perhaps? -Mask of the Skull (22). 1/day finger of death (Drd 8, Sor/Wiz 7), which would be worth 192, as you most likely already know. Once per day, would be 38.4. 22/38.4= 220/384= 110/192= 55/96. That somehow works, perhaps because of the ownership minimum time requirement and destruction method outlined already? -Mattock of the Titans (23.348 gp). Extract the gargantuan +3 adamantine warhammer, worth 3 for the adamantine, and 48 gp for the gargantuan warhammer. I think 300 gp got filtered here from the masterwork, and 18 for the +3 warhamer. Thatīs 21 and the gp. The remaining 2 are the price for moving earth at that rate? Cool! FIND! -Maul of the Titans (25.305 gp). A +3 greatclub is worth 18.305 gp, the remaining 7 are for the triple damage against inanimate objects. Somewhere, 18 strength and a -4 penalty interrupt this equation, but I canīt think where are they. -Medallion of Thoughts (12). 2nd level spell, 3rd caster level, use-activated, what the heck. -Mirror of Life Trapping (200). 9th level spell, command-word activation. Caster level 17th... Thatīs x17x1.8, or 275.4. However, the price is reduced by 75.4, due to the limited storage space, I guess. -Mirror of Mental Prowess (175). Oh delicious. First of all, it detects thoughts, so itīs worth 12. Then, we have clairaudience/clairvoyance, which is in my opinion, a wrong guess. Even then... thereīs something else amiss. The gate (Clr 9, Sor/Wiz 9) function alone is worth more than the entire mirror! I had hopes for you, hon... -Mirror of Opposition (92). Clone is just a prerequisite here... I need to think more. 92 is the price for four present people to be copied everyday? So five per day would be priced at 115? Whoo-hoo! -Necklace of Adaptation (9). Yes, that what we found out earlier is right. Airlessness is worth 9. -Necklace of Fireballs (1.65, 2.7, 4.35, 5.4, 5.85, 8.1, 8.7). This is the biggest explosive I know! The first one has 5d6 + 3d6x2, or 11d6 total damage... 11 caster levels x 3 spell level x 50 gp is 1.650 gp. And so on, I wonīt even bother. Iīm starting to think of something... Why not disarm someone and place this necklace on him, then burn him with an over-heightened burning hands spell? Thatīd be so kaboom. The biggest one has 58d6 damage! Double the caster level for a maximized necklace of fireballs, dealing 348 damage, resistances applied 9 times. So thirty points of resistance would, in theory, recoil 270 points of damage. But this simply isnīt true... because some explosions would stop short of going the whole resistance. Itīd deal much more than 78 damage... sorry, itīd deal only 24 more points, for a total of 102... sorry, I derailed! -Orb of Storms (48). Endure elements (Clr 1, Drd 1, Pal 1, Rgr 1, Sor/Wiz 1, Sun 1), is worth 1, because it wonīt scale and it lasts 24 hours. Then, 1/day, a 5th level spell... Control Weather (Air 7, Clr 7, Drd 7, Sor/Wiz 7), which doesnīt scale. 36.4 for that. And the last power, a storm of vengeance 1/month, is worth (48-37.4), for a total of 10.6. It should be worth... it doesnīt scale, either, although the caster level is 18th. My calculator reports a total divider of around 29-30, depending on whether you consider the caster level as 18 or 17. -Pearl of Power (1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 70). What can I say? Spell level squared x 1.000 gp, what the heck. Except the last one, which uses two 6th level slots, worth 72 total, reduce by 2 because the guy was in a good mood. -Pearl of the Sirines (15.3). Oh cool, how romantic. First, substract 1 for the basic thing, a pearl. Then substract 9 for the underwater breathing, and 5.3 is the price of a swim speed of 60 feet. FIND! -Periapt of Health (7.5). Remove disease (Clr 3, Drd 3, Rgr 3) must be a mere prerequisite here... else it should be worth 6, for once per day is /5. -Periapt of Proof against Poison (27). I dunno... looks like a command-word activated Neutralize Poison spell (Brd 4, Clr 4, Drd 3, Pal 4, Rgr 3), but it isnīt. -Periapt of Wisdom (4, 16, 36). Bonus squared by 1, what the heck. -Periapt of Wound Closure (15). Canīt be reduced any more. -Phylactery of Faithfulness (1). Canīt be reduced any more. -Phylactery of Undead Turning (11). No idea. -Pipes of Haunting (6). Caster level 4th, spell level 2nd, it should be worth 16. Divide by 2.5, thatīs 6.4. And cheaper, it affects all eligible targets within 30 feet. -Pipes of Pain (12). Canīt be reduced any more. -Pipes of the Sewers (1.15). Canīt be reduced any more, itīs time to accept it. -Pipes of Sounding (1.8). Is that it? Command word cantrip at 2nd caster level? Have fun, idiot. BIG waste. -Portable Hole (20). Nice-nice, canīt reduce it anymore. -Restorative Ointment (4). The power to remove disease (Clr 3, Drd 3, Rgr 3), caster level 5th... thatīs 750 gp so far. The next power is related, since it drains on the same uses... Neutralize Poison (Brd 4, Clr 4, Drd 3, Pal 4, Rgr 3), caster level 5th still, means 375 gp. And the last power is also related. Cure Light Wounds (Brd 1, Clr 1, Drd 1, Healing 1, Pal 1, Rgr 2) 1x5x25 gp is 125 more. Totalīs 1.250 gp, actually. Somehow this got really messed up... 4 for five applications? -Ring Gates (40). No idea. -Robe of the Archmagi (75). Oh damn... here we go again. First of all, +5 armor is worth 25. SR 18 is worth 60. A +4 resistance bonus is worth 16, and a +2 enhancement bonus on caster level checks is worth the rest. Even assuming the alignment requirement reduces price by 30%, weīre in trouble. Honest. -Robe of Blending (30). A +10 Hide bonus is worth 10, a disguise self at will at caster level 10 is worth 20. Functions activated do not count as related or not, so itīs OK. -Robe of Bones (2.4). Twelve 1 HD undead here? Cool. 200 gp per undead? -Robe of Eyes (120). This is gonna be fun, dudes. Already from the start, a continuous true seeing (Clr 5, Drd 7, Knowledge 5, Sor/Wiz 6) is worth 180, more than the robe. However, there is a price to truth: being unable to avert your gaze, in this case. Then we have the +10 to Search and Spot... worth 20 total, double then, for a total of 220. 120-foot darkvision and being never flat-footed is worth 10, then. Halve then by being unable to avert thy gaze from the space. -Robe of Scintillating Colors (27). Its first effect is similar to a rainbow pattern (Brd 4, Sor/Wiz 4), and the next one is similar to blur (Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 2). Both must be active at once, and there are only ten rounds of it. So, once per day, shall we call it? Thatīs a total of 7x10x2/5, or 28. -Robe of Stars (58). After this, Iīm going to become goth. Six unloads of shuriken +5 is worth 6, a +1 luck bonus on saving throws is worth 2. That leaves us with the pretty pretty 50 for the travel to the Astral which doesnīt match any spell. FIND!. -Robe of Useful Items (7). Good luck. If you want, you can gamble a bit with this thing... got one of those things that allow you to reroll 1/day? Well, stock up on those, and wear your entire rerolling set. Then try to reroll until you can get the 10 gems, wait until the next day, get the next 10 gems, and youīll have earned 3.000 gp for merely losing 280 XP. Roll higher at the time of the creation for 16 total. -Rope of Climbing (3). Thatīs as far as I can go. -Rope of Entanglement (21). Whoa... no idea how did they get those prerequisites, or anything. No, Iīm lost. -Salve of Slipperiness (1). Caster level 20th grease (Sor/Wiz 1)? No... no. Perhaps, the main function is a +20 to Escape, but that would be worth 40 in a permanent item, and most of the time eight hours are considered as 1/10... Iīm so lost. -Scabbard of Keen Edges (16). Do I even have to bother? Spell level 3, Caster level 5, command word, divide by 5/3. 16.2. Okay. -Scarab of Protection (38). SR 20 is worth 80, Death Ward (Clr 4, Death 4, Drd 5, Pal 4) is, for continuous, worth 108. No idea... -Scarab, Golembane (2.5). I can just say... what the fu...? -Shrouds of Disintegration (6.6). Caster level x spell level x 50 gp, and even then itīs worth twice what it should. -Silversheen (250 gp). 25/9 for temporary properties? Deal, dude! Just remember, you canīt do it with cold iron. Thatīd undermine its concept. -Slippers of Spider Climbing (4.8). Spider Climb (Drd 2, Sor/Wiz 2). For continuous theyīd have to be worth 24. But they ainīt. Theyīre once per day, and 10 minutes to boot. That makes it worth 1/5 that, although the 10 minutes should be 30, for the caster level. -Sovereign Glue (2.4). No f***ing idea. -Stone of Alarm (2.7). No real idea, actually. I was thinking of something along the lines of a continuous alarm (Brd 1, Rgr 1, Sor/Wiz 1)... but it isnīt. -Stone of Controlling Earth Elementals (100). See the censer. -Stone of Good Luck (Luckstone) (20). This would be worth 10 if it had an affixed slot, but it doesnīt. Itīs just a stone of good luck. And still, itīs worth more than any diamond. 2 for the save bonus, and 8 for ability and skill checks. Forty-five skills, letīs assume itīs still worth 4.5 as if it was competence. And the rest is 3.5 for ability checks? No finds, Iīm sorry. -Stone Horse (10, 14.8). Iīd have my doubts about this one... but whatever, Iīm lost. -Stone Salve (4). Stone to Flesh (Sor/Wiz 6), or Stoneskin (Drd 5, Earth 6, Sor/Wiz 4, Strength 6). Caster level is 11 for stone to flesh, and 13 for stoneskin: damn that weird duration. So, 6x11x50 = 3.3. 4x13x50 + 250 = 2.85. And the last one is unrelated. Do I feel a certain gravitation towards the price of 4? -Strand of Prayer Beads (varies more than your mood). -Bead of blessing (0.6). Limitless spell trigger item, 1500 gp. Divide by five, for a total of 0.3. What makes it worth twice that? -Bead of healing (9). Limitless spell trigger item, 1500 gp. Well, cure serious wounds (Brd 3, Clr 3, Drd 4, Pal 4, Rgr 4, Healing 3) is worth at this level, fifth, 7.5, Remove Disease (Clr 3, Drd 3, Rgr 3) is worth 22.5, Remove Blindness or Deafness (Clr 3, Pal 3) is worth also 22.5. Thatīs so far 52.5. Divide by 5, thatīs 10.5. I think thereīs a mistake there somewhere... -Bead of karma (20). Since it is not divisible by 300 gp, Iīll assume itīs use-activated, once per day, so divide by 400 gp. That leaves 50 caster level x spell level, and the caster level is 9th. So, no idea. -Bead of smiting (16.8). Spell trigger item, limitless, 1/day, or 300 gp x caster level x spell level. In this case, for example, itīs 300 gp x 56, for an 8th level spell at 7th caster level. Or, for a 4th level spell and two related functions... someone forgot theyīre three? I donīt think so. -Bead of summons (20). No effing idea. -Bead of wind walking (46.8). This should be at least possible. 156 x 300 gp, so, itīs a 6th level spell at 26TH CASTER LEVEL? I should stop hitting the happy weed. -Sustaining Spoon (5.4). Seems like a command word-activated 1/day 3rd level spell at 5th caster level, but it feeds four instead of five. Half-assing is free. -Tome of Clear Thought, Tome of Leadership and Influence, Tome of Understanding (27.5, 55, 82.5, 110, 137.5). Donīt expect me to explain again. -Unguent of Timelessness (150 gp). This hasnīt ever been even calculated, why should I? -Universal Solvent (50 gp). Nor has this anywhere I can grab from. -Vest of Escape (5.2). A +4 and a +6... 3.6 and 1.6 . Seems they were flat-out added together, which is okay. I donīt want to think any more. -Vestment, Druids (10). One extra use of a core class ability granted, on average, every three levels, for 10? Deal, dude...! Wait, itīs worn OVER armor, so itīs at x2! It costs 5!? Great! -Well of Many Worlds (82). The raw randomness has discouraged me. -Wind Fan (5.5). Well, 2x3x1.8 is 10.8, right? 5.5/10.8 = 55/108. Thatīs the price modifier for 20% cumulative chance it breaks... huh. Reminds me of a certain horn. -Wings of Flying (54). This is command word-activated and caster level 10th with spell level 3, no more to be said... Finally, Chahl takes all of the stuff and throws it away. -Thanks for listening. This has been Chahlīs Workshop, from the Guild of Ultimate Evil. I hope to have been able to clarify any doubts you had about this ungodly undertaking weīve been both through. If you have any questions, well, I wonīt stop you, although most likely you donīt. Sighing... he removes everything, and leaves. -Or you could leave anything you have to say in my answering machine (40$). Iīll do my best to answer it as soon as I can... Until then, Iīll be going on some other undertaking. And, running through the door... he leaves your sight. |
