| unundindur08-07-07, 06:29 AM | Is this spell only a remenant from 2nd ed? I am looking for a way to have 2 spells active with contingency (namely revivify and teleport) and I am not sure I manage to do that... :P |

While the Spell Compendium revision of the spell unnecessarily altered it to lower the XP cost (i.e. it does not have the added effect of the two additional contingent spells cast upon arrival in exchange for lowering the XP cost from 5,000 to 100), the original 3.0 version is still perfectly balanced as it's added benefits come with a much higher cost to the caster (5,000 XP and 1d4 CON damage is more than a fair price to pay), and thus you should have no problem getting a DM to opt to let you use the original if you had need of it. Lastly, the Craft Contingent Spell feat (found in both [I]Unapproachable East and Complete Arcane) can allow you to maintain many different contingency spell effects at the same time. |

| The Simbul08-07-07, 08:09 AM | If that is the case the only option you would really have is to either have a NPC spellcaster use Craft Contingent Spell to create contingent spells upon you, or to use a greater ring of spellstoring or a scroll of the spells in question (assuming you have a decent and reliable Use Magic Device modifier of course). The reason being that contingency, chain contingency, and Elminster's evasion are all personal range spells. Thus you would have to cast them yourself in order to benefit from them. By contrast, Craft Contingent Spell can be used to create contingencies for anyone. However I think the easiest and most core option would be for the wizard to cast a refuge spell, which would allow you to return to their stronghold by breaking a focus stone (and then be revived by another NPC or through wish spells) instead. |
