| Man-Rata04-23-07, 04:18 AM | Can you apply both Twin Ray and Chain Spell to the same spell? And if yes does that make double effect on all targets, og chained the one ray, and just the Ray effect with the other? |
| CantripN04-23-07, 06:39 AM | Actually, you can't apply Chain Spell to Ray spells. It's an Effect spell, not a Targetted Spell. The target just happens to hit the Orb. Also, some might argue that Split Ray won't work on Orbs, and that you need Twin Spell... I'm not sure I agree. |
| Man-Rata04-23-07, 09:07 AM | Actually Chain Spell says, any spell that affect only a single target, and has a range greater than touch. That includes Rays, you still have to make the touch attack for the primary target, since it also says, it will affect the primary target normally. More refering to Enervation than anything else. |
| CantripN04-23-07, 09:42 AM | Some might argue as you do, but the consensus is that you can't. Wizards rules as such, too. |
| runestar04-23-07, 10:01 AM | I agree with Cantrip, not because of any perceived game imbalance it might cause, but more from a rules perspective. I believe that ray spells are not treated as targeted for purposes of interacting with other spells and similar effects. For example, spell turning has no effect against it. You could argue about what "targeting" implies from a layman perspective, but it would seem that the rules do agree with CantripN.:) |
| Man-Rata04-23-07, 10:09 AM | When you say Wizards rule as such, where are you refering to? |
| CantripN04-23-07, 10:18 AM | When you say Wizards rule as such, where are you refering to? That as far as I'm aware, all games they run rule as such. Also, check out Spell Turning: "Spells and spell-like effects targeted on you are turned back upon the original caster. The abjuration turns only spells that have you as a target. Effect and area spells are not affected." Sure, it could be read to specific to Spell Turning, but it seems to me that it actually defines what a targeted spell IS. |
| Man-Rata04-23-07, 10:35 AM | Yes but Chain Spell do not say targeted spell, it say, affects only a single target. If the meant only targeted spells, they should have written that has Target: One target. I will admit it's a vague description, but if we presume you are able to use it on a Ray spell, would you be able to use both Twin Ray and Chain Spell? |
| CantripN04-23-07, 11:43 AM | As I said, yes, if you assume Split Ray can be used on Orbs. I think I'd require Twin Spell, personally. |
