Can Chain Spell work with spells that utilize ranged touch attacks?

Despite the answer to that, how would Chain Spell work with Magic Missile? If you hit one guy with 5 magic missiles, how many would chain into others?

Recall that chain spell only does half-damage to the rest of the folks. So you'd do 5d4+5 to the first guy, then (5d4+5)/2 to the rest.

But it would hit everyone with the full number of missiles as the primary target was hit by then? (For half damage of course, as you said.) Sounds right, I just wasn't sure.

Now, onto ranged touch attacks, can they be chained?

You can chain any spell that specifies a single target and has a range greater than touch (page 39 tome & blood) so yes -for example you could chain Melfs' acid arrow (a ranged touch attack) since it has range: Long (400' +40'/level).

No, you cannot chain a melfs acid arrow, or any other ranged touch attack for that matter. The reason for this is that these spells do not have a target, they have an effect. A spell must have a target line to be chained.
