Bolorhaig 03-30-06, 02:57 AM	ok, so i realize i'm going to be more or less a lone voice crying in the wilderness here, but i'm interested in developing some invocations appropriate to a good-aligned warlock. perhaps even, dare i say it, invocations for an exalted warlock! i've sifted through the new invocation submissions on these archives and found very little to help. my 1st idea is an invocation that converts EB to subdual damage. Merciful Blast (least eldritch essence) spell lvl equivalent 2 Applying this invocation to the EB causes it to inflict subdual damage. NOTE: since it's a blast modification, it can't be stacked w/stuff like vitriolic or utterdark and therefore won't cause any rediculous thematic conflicts, but it can still be stacked w/the shaper invocations for some nice non-lethal crowd control. anyway, that's my 1st idea. if you've got any others, i'd love to hear them. bolorhaig
Bolorhaig 03-30-06, 03:07 AM	ok so here's my 2nd try (plz keep in mind i'm not really experienced w/the warlock, just trying to make it more playable as a good char). Compassionate Blast (eldritch blast shape) lesser invocation spell level equivalent 3 This blast shape reduces the EB damage by 2d6. In exchange, the reduced blast gains a +4 bonus (unnamed) on the touch attack roll and a +2 bonus (unnamed) to the DC of any blast-related saving throw. NOTE: i made this a shape invocation b/c i wanted to be able to increase the non-lethal DCs but decrease damage. if this was an essence invocation, it couldn't be used w/anything that required a non-lethal DC (except for the area effect attacks). NOTE: perhaps a better way to go w/this would be to reduce EB damage by Xd6 and increase DCs by +X (limited by lvl-based EB dice). This would allow a good-aligned warlock to throw a non-damaging EB that could almost definitely blind or nauseate someone. i kind of like that idea. bolorhaig

Severing Blast (eldritch essence invocation) greater invocation spell lvl equivalent 5 This blast inflicts increased damage to outsiders who have at least 1 alignment axis opposed to the warlock. Damage dice for such targets is increased 1 die step (usually to d8). In addition, the warlock gains a +4 bonus (?insight?divine?suggestions?) to overcome the SR of these outsiders. Also, if any such outsider suffers damage that is 50% or more of its total HP, the creature must succeed at a W save or be Dismissed to its native plane. Against outsiders with no opposed alignment axis to the warlock, the severing blast inflicts normal damage but with a +2 bonus to overcome SR. Against other, non-outsider targets, the blast inflicts half damage. NOTE:i went w/greater invocation on this one for no reason other than the feel of it. All the outsider-busting spells are at least lvl 4, and i like the feel of the demon-hunter warlock being a bit higher in lvl than others. bolorhaig

I created a "templar" class (lawful and good aligned warlocks) with a bevy of good-aligned "benedictions" (invocations) which could be used just fine with the standard warlock.
