You could produce large amounts of low-powered magic items in a short amount of time. You could even produce magic items in the dungeon. You process 1000 base price every 8 hours (480 minutes) or 25 bp every 12 minutes. This would allow low-level mages to build a backlog faster while travelling. On a trip taking a week a mage spends the last minutes of the day putting down an unused 1st level spell. When he arrives at his destination he's got 7 scrolls. Any thoughts? |

An item creator must have the spell prepared in order to use it in the creation of a magic item. So, unless your caster actually has many 1st level spells prepared (and unused, he can only make as many scrolls or potions in a day as he has slots available restricted by the costs). I like what you have proposed, and will use it more formally in my campaign! |
