specifically i want to know about the Favored Soul character class. in the spell Righteous Might, the caster gains damage reduction based upon wether he channels positive energy or negative energy. i understand that they are referencing a clerics alignment specifications on wether they can spontaneously cast cure or inflict spells. however, it is not specifically referred to as channeling. the favored soul is not as bound to alignment issues with their casting. so when a favored soul casts rigteous might, does he even get damage reduction. does he even channel positive or negative energy. thank you for any help

a favored soul does channel energy from the deity to whom they are favored. it works the same way as a cleric; a good favored soul channels good energy, an evil favored soul channels negative energy. a neutral favored soul chooses once in the beginning, never to be changed. yes, based on this, you get damage reduction appropriately.

also...i would think that any favored soul who acted out of accord with his deity's wishes would soon become a not-so-favored soul in the eyes of said deity. they have natural (as opposed to begged for) power, but it is still only granted at the whim of a god.

hope this answers your question.

actually a favored soul does not channel energy according to his god. i have been pointed to the reference of channeling positive or negative energy in the cleric ability turn undead. favored soul does not have this ability. nor do they have the ability to spontaneously replace cure and inflict spells (not that they need it, but the is an important differentiation in the cleric class based on alignment). i have only found one mention of channeling energy in the classes, and that is in reference to the cleric's ability to turn undead. my best guess is that if you cannot turn or rebuke undead, then you cannot channel positive or negative energy.

This is where you realize that Righteous Might was written years before the Favored Soul, and make a note that the class has to pick if it is positive or negative (if follwing a neutral god, that is- if not, then its decided for him) for spells such as Righteous Might. And it would be best if he decided this before playing, as opposed to the first time he casts Righteous Might in combat with an [Evil] or [Good] outsider.

with all due respect, if you reread the first sentence under the words FAVORED SOUL, (pg 6, comp div) channelling energy is SPECIFICALLY referred to.

at this point, i will direct you to my first post.
