| NorthWind10-26-07, 07:12 PM | Chant's Summoning Level: x Components: V, S, F Casting Time: 10 minutes Range: 10 feet Effect: one summoned outsider Duration: instantaneous Saving Throw: Will negates Spell resistance: yes A now common spell originally composed by Emmanuel Chant, the summons conjures a creature or spirit to serve the magician. To cast this spell, the first thing that must be done is draw a circle. It need not be complicated - a chalk circle will suffice. The next step for the user is to name the kind of creature to be summoned, which then appears in the center of the drawn circle. After the creature is summoned, the magician has an opportunity to impress the called creature with his or her magic, represented by a check of 1d20 + 1/2(caster level) against a DC of 10+(summoned creature's hit dice) If this check succeeds, the summoned creature is at the disposal for one day caster level. The summoned creature will be freed of the summoning magic at midnight of the last day. Should the check fail, the creature will either depart immediately or seek retribution, depending on the nature of the creature summoned. Before the creature leaves, however, it will negotiate a cost for it's services. The most common cost is a portion of the magician's magic - a spell slot of an appropriate level will be lost for the day after the duration ends. This is for an upcoming campaign, vaguely inspired by Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell. The idea is to give characters the potential to make use of fairy servants (such as Sidhe (I'm using the stats for the elf subraces) and other fey) Thoughts? The idea for the level is that it can be prepared as a spell of any slot and it's potential would scale with the spell...but the problem arises that which level of spell learned will it take up as a sorcerer learns it? It's available to all primary spellcasters, y'can't tell since I hadn't worked out the level yet. |
