| Pyrrhonist03-02-06, 10:04 PM | I was under the impression that these were three distinct spells, that did three different things based on the specific 'type' mentioned. Person = Humanoids, Animal = animals, and Monster is all the rest.... Same goes for Hold Person vs. Animal vs. Monster... From the Summon Monster tables, you do not find any 'animals' listed...You do find celestial and fiendish animals, but under the templates for celestial and fiendish, it explicitly states any animal that is of this template becomes a magical beast...no longer an animal. From Summon Nature's Ally, there are only animals and elementals...no 'monsters'... Is there an errata someone can point me to which clarifies this? "This spell functions like charm person, except that the effect is not restricted by creature type or size" I know that looks pretty clear and straight forward, with regards to Monster being all encompassing...but D&D rules have been known to have different meanings or intents before ;) Thanks in advance... |

It means just what it says. There will be no errata or FAQ to clarify, as it is quite clear. For Summon Nature's Ally, you can charm them with Charm Animal or Charm Monster. For Summon Monster, you need to use Charm Monster. |
