I'm looking for a feat/class ability that will reduce the gold and/or xp price of crafting magic items. I own several books, but I haven't found anything yet. Any ideas?

Edit: Ok, I will check out Eberron then. Thank you.

There are three feats in the Eberron Campaign Setting book, I believe. Each one decreases one aspect of crafting (gold, xp, and time) by 25%. There is an epic feat in the Epic Level Handbook that makes it so you take 1 day per 10,000 gp of the item rather than 1 day per 1,000 gp. There might be more, but I'm afraid that I don't have my books on me right now, so I can't check. Those two sources are just from memory.

Eberron's artisan (Exceptional artisan- time, Extraordinary artisan- gp, Legendary artisan- xp) feats are one way to make items cheaper, but not the only way.

In FR, there is a feat that only applies to one type of creation, but lowers the base cost by 25%, making everything cheaper.

In an Oriental setting theres an equivalent crane clan ancestor feat which does the same, but to all creation (effectively all of the eberron artisan feats in one).

Or you could use souls or liquid pain from the book of Vile darkness, which makes XP costs much cheaper (or even non-existant). You could, if evil, sacrifice to the dark gods to get dark craft points, which will make all of your creations (especially the weaker ones) lots cheaper.

I believe there are class abilities that make it cheaper too, i remember one on Ad+d heroes, and some in Community 3E

If you want to be really cruel to your DM(and a real munchkin), you can give your item restrictions, which reduces the base cost of the item (10% off for choosing an alignment, 20% for choosing a class etc.).

Make lots of cheap items and sell them to your friends for 95% of the market price :D

Excellent. That is extremely useful, because I wanted to build a character with the double wand wielder feat, and I wanted to create lots of different wands for myself. I only need the one type of item creation, and lowering the base price by 75% will save me many fortunes. Thanks.

PS: You get to pick the type of item creation you want, right?

Uh, actually the feat lowers the item to being 75% of the price.. not "by" 75%. So for example, a 1000gp Item would cost you 750gp. Still a really really good feat though.

if you want you can reduce the xp costs by alot just buy thought bottle from complete arcane, the most broken item of all.

Bah, you don't even need a thought bottle. Just find someway to inflict a single negative level on yourself, which sets you at half way through the previous level, spend down to the minimum for that level, then get yourself restored/greater restored, which restores you to the minimum for the higher level.

As an example going from level 2 to level 1 because I'm to lazy to look up higher EXP numbers.

Level 2. =1000 exp.
Suffer 1 negative level, voluntarily fail the saving throw 1 day later, accept 1 lost level.
Level 1 = 500 exp
Craft magic items until your time limit for restoration is up
Level 1 = 100 exp (whatever)
Cast restoration
Level 2 = 1000 exp.
Rinse, wash, repeat.
