Hi.

If I cast prestidigitation in a stone to make it to taste like chicken and then I make a soup with the stone...

Will the soup taste like chicken forever (or until consumed)?
will the soup stop tasting chicken after an hour?
Or the magic in the stone dont afects the soup and the soup will taste to stone?

thanks.

The soup would taste like boiled stone with vegies. The stone would taste (though not FEEL) like chicken for one hour. I imagine if it was consumed it would continue to taste like chicken if barfed provided it was within 1 hour.

I would agree if the spell would be an illusion but is difuse because the universal school since neither is a transmutation.

Well, as you can heat an object up, create "real" smoke, and such, it's not defined in any of that. But in order to create taste in chicken soup you need chicken fat. The rock wouldn't dissolve, therefore wouldn't make the soup taste good. What does dissolve is the dirt on the rock, making it taste like a rock. I'm sure the inside of the rock also tastes like chicken though :).

I agree that if you "cast it on the stone" then the stone is what would taste like chicken.

However, you could also make a magic item...

Stone Soup
This seemingly ordinary, smooth river stone smells faintly of chicken. If you lick it, the stone will taste very strongly of chicken soup. When placed in a pot of boiling water, it flavors the water to taste like chicken soup. This soup has no more nutritional value than plain boiling water, but tastes much more satisfying. Other ingredients can be added to the water, adding both nutrition and additional taste. The stone can be used on up to one gallon of water at a time, three times a day. These stones have been found in many different flavors.
Faint transmutation* Prerequisites: prestidigitation. Market price: 50gp**

*Although prestidigitation is a universal spell, this particular application of it is indeed transmutational. I chose to give it such an aura by fiat.
**This pricing is entirely subjective. It uses a cantrip, 3/day, with limited application of the original spell functionality. You could say the item functionality is purely for flavor. :P

New magic item: Prestidigitation Sauce

One flask of PrestiSauce holds 1 ounce of a tasteless greenish liquid. If targeted by a prestidigitation spell, the liquid absorbs the spells energies.
With charged PrestiSauce you can either color, clean, soil, etc. items in a 60-foot cube, or chill, warm, flavor, etc. 60 pound of nonliving material.

Cost: 25 gp.
