Hi,
Quick question regarding spells that have targets: Creature or creatures touched (up to one/level) like Chill Touch.
Can you touch the same creature more then once, hence dealing additional 1d6 and STR damage? Also, can all the touch attacks be made in the same round (whether it be for the same or different targets)?
Thanks.

OK, there are two issues here:
Can you touch the same creature more then once, hence dealing additional 1d6 and STR damage?Yes. Damage stacks with itself. Whether it is ability damage or hit-point damage, it always stacks.

Something like the 1d6 from Touch of Idiocy would not stack with a second touch of Idiocy because it is a penalty from the same source.

Also, can all the touch attacks be made in the same round (whether it be for the same or different targets)? You can make one touch in the first round. Casting the spell and making the touch attack are part of the same standard action.

But you might have up to 20 touches with Chill Touch. In later rounds, you can make as many touch attacks as you normally would be able to on a full attack.

Like, if your BAB is +6 you could make two touch attacks in that round as a full-attack action. If you added Haste, you could make three touch attacks per round in a full-attack.

Perfect. Thanks for clarifying this.

So I guess you can keep your Chill Touch active in your hand for as long as you have not touched your maximum number of creatures, you don't cast another spell or close your hand (for example attacking)?

That is right to the best of my knowledge.

Honestly, Chill Touch is a really, really wacky spell.

The duration is "instantaneous," and the target is "creature touched."

But neither of those are really true. It can last a long time. And it doesnt so much target another creature as grant the caster a limited-use touch attack.

Other question I just thought of:

If a duskblade uses Chill Touch as part of his arcane channeling through his weapon and let's say he's level 5, can he deliver Chill Touch in his next 5 attacks or only his next single attack? From what I understand from the definition of arcane channeling, Chill Touch would only apply to the next attack, whether it hits or misses (unless you are lvl 13).

Yeah, I dont know. Im not a big fan of the Duskblade, and so not comfortable with its mechanics. (But it stuff like this that makes Chill Touch seem so damn wacky.)

I would adhere strictly to the definition and mechanics of the Arcane Channeling ability, even though that will probably mean only one channeled attack.

hmm... tough call, cause this is also the same scenario with the feat "Smite Spell(PHB2-92)" I would have to say that each DM/GM would have to make their own call on that. the feat/special ability is design for taking a single, all your damage at once spell i.e. shocking grasp and hitting the opponent with all of it at once(assuming you hit) instead of a slow "damage over time" like chill touch. and chill touch will also force an undead to save vs fear. so you smack him and then he runs away! I think this will boil down to homebrew rules, but, yes, it would REALLY be nice for one of the Wizards staff to make a ruling on it.
