| FEADIN104-05-06, 11:27 AM | You have the orb spells in the Complete arcane, not really the same. |
| CaoSlayer04-05-06, 11:42 AM | It was such a broken spell... finger of death as a level 1 spell was never balanced. |
| thegreatbuddha04-05-06, 10:46 PM | It was such a broken spell... finger of death as a level 1 spell was never balanced. *sniff* I miss it too. |
| Moon-Lancer04-05-06, 11:29 PM | people complain about the spells today, but do we really want to go back to chromatic orb? |
| Vaelan04-05-06, 11:41 PM | It was such a broken spell... finger of death as a level 1 spell was never balanced. Chromatic Orb paralyzed people that actually made the save, so it is quite a bit better than Finger of Death. |
| True Cavalier04-06-06, 04:53 AM | Hurray for useful low-level slots once you are high-level :D I didn't play much of second edition, only 1 campaign, but I loved it in Baldur's Gate. |
| Jarrad04-06-06, 05:08 AM | Yeah, but if low-levels spells can be that powerful just because the caster has advanced to a high level, to what end are there high-level spells at all? Surely it would be better to have ALL spells as first-level (or 0th-level) spells that have increasing effect as the caster advances... Just think: as a 1st level caster, Temporal Stasis doesn't actually freeze a creature in time, it just makes its watch a bit slow, hopefully making it late for the fight. By 5th level, the target will *always* be late for important appointments, making it unable to hold down any job that isn't in senior management. By 10th level it's as useful as you need: the target will be moving so slowly through time that not only will it always arrive after the fight has finished, but after a few years its hairstyle and clothes will be so out of fashion that it will be a complete social outcast, and will turn against the former allies who have so cruelly snubbed it. ;-) Of course, it's not so easy to categorise the low-level effects of all spells that easily... 1st-level Mage: (points finger, mutters words of power) "Disintegrate! Die, foul beast!" Monster: "AAAAARGH! You... you... you B*ST*RD! I'd just had that jacket dry-cleaned!" |
| Radagast04-06-06, 12:13 PM | Hahahaha - oh, that's great! It makes me want to create some sort of Curse spell that makes the target forever late unless they get Remove Curse or a similar spell cast. That would be fun! |
