| Bill Bisco: Average Adventurer10-11-05, 07:09 PM | Have there been any topics regarding Spells, Prcs, abilities or anything that deals with time travel? It's a really interesting subject to explore. I'm also wanting to introduce some time travel and parallel world adventures to my players. I know that there was a third party book that dealt with this subject, but it didn't go too far in depth. I was thinking Going into the past as a spell would be a 9th Wiz/Sorc Spell. Maybe going into the future would be an 8th level Spell. But as far as how far one could go? How much of an impact that caster level would have? I'm not sure. I also think of Artifacts and Monsters. The only Monster that deals with time that I'm aware of is the Phane From the ELH. Anywho, has this topic had some stuff come up before and if so what came out of it? Any ideas would be appreciated. |

Even if you don't use it, it is still a very interesting read. Remember to read the WHOLE description of the spell on page 2. It contains many nice answers for most questions you might have. |

Control Time Velocity (10th/1) (Trans) Control the speed of time in a target or area. Reverse Aging (12th/2) (Trans) Reverse the age of a being or object Forward Time Travel (13th/3) (Conj) Travel forward in time Backward Time Travel (15th/4) (Conj) Travel backward in time Sideways Time Travel (13th/3) (Conj) Travel sideways in time Temporal Jump (11th/2) (Conj) Vanish out of the timestream for a short amount of time Temporal Shield (10th/--) (Abj) Protects a being, object or area from the other time spells Alter Duration (10th/1) (Trans) Change the duration of a spell or magical effect Disrupt Time (16th/5) (Evo) Disrupts the time flow for a area, object or target Null Time (15th/4) (Trans) "Eliminates" time from an area Set Age (14th/4) (Trans) Sets the age of a being or object Time Sight (10th/1) (Div) Able to see into another time era Accelerate Healing (10th/1) (Trans) Cleric only Speeds up natural healing Accelerate Disease/Poison (10th/1) (Nec) Cleric only Speeds up the rate at which disease & poison act Age Body Part (11th/2) (Nec) Ages one specific body part or limb Know Death (10th/1) (Div) Know when a being will die or when they died Being's Prime (11th/2) (Trans) Temporarily change a willing subject's physical age to the peak of their prime. In the case of dragons, the Chronomancer can increase their age category by his class level. Known sorcerer spells are not increased. The number per day is. |
| Realms of Chaos10-12-05, 10:49 AM | I look at the possability of Chronomacy spells from the most logical standpoint and let me tell you that it is very dangerous business. For one thing, creating an infinite paradox is incredibly easy and it is very possable to lose your future. For instance, if time where to truly stop, electrons would stop rotating around nuclei and all atoms of the world would implode into a central point, causing a black hole. Travelling into the future creates little problems. Travelling into the past, meanwhile, creates tons of difficulties. There are two ways of looking at it. The first way that is much more logical is that you travel back in time to where you where back in that time and have no knowledge once soever about the future. If you travel to before you are born, you don't exist until you are born. Not only is this usage pointless but it erases any possability of a future self. For instance, someone travels back a year in time but has no idea that they will use that spell again in one year so they end up doing it again, creating an infinite loop and the character will not exist past the round where they cast the spell because every time they reach that round in the course of history, they cast that spell to travel back a year. The viewpoint is that you can travel freely through the fourth dimension. The problem with this is as follows. You travel back in time to kill the parent of an enemy. The enemy seices to exist and therefore, when you reach that point in the timeline, you don't travel back in time, therefore the enemy's parent was never killed and the enemy is back. If you wish to try using alternate timelines, phanes, planes with timeless, flowing, or static properties, fine. Just do not mess around with travel through time. |

I can definitely understand some people not wanting to mess with time travel in the past. It could definitely get annoying. But, I don't know, IT seems just so cool too. To help deal with Paradoxes involving the character traveling back in time I propose a new Spell. Protection From Paradox: (abj) It would have a permanent duration. Perhaps it would be 9th level. It might be better as a ritual. Not sure. The Spell Protects the Subject from the Effects of Paradox. S/he may go back in time kill people, marry people, start cities, Change the past as much as they whim. The Subject may even cause a future to exist in which the Subject does not exist. However, The Subject Remains unaffected. Only if they are killed in the Timeline they are presently in may they cease to exist. tridiak: Very nice spells. What does Travelling Sideways through time mean? Ooh, I'd love to see some of those fully developed. |
| lohki.the.lich10-12-05, 02:27 PM | DO it the way they did it in Dragonlance Legends. If the pc dies while in the past that character died in the time they came from also that that they take the place of someone in the past. BUt if you jsut made a pel you could squash a bug and kill a whole race remeber atom are reused by different people and different species jsut have a cause and effect. |
| Realms of Chaos10-12-05, 06:05 PM | If you instist apon travel through time, I suggest a slight tweak. I suggest adding infinite alternate timestreams that coincide with the current one. Each one differs from the next by one round and nothing else. Travel between these alternate time streams could affect the main one in some way or another. You still accomplish the whole thing that you wanted. If your looking to make a chronology based campain, create a guild and perhaps a couple of prestige classes that deal with time and create some creatures to guard it. Have players interact and try to break up time loops and let them have fun on the temporal energy plane. If you want to have a constant campain that shifts through time, just make time flow at different speeds and create an artifact so that your players can not only finally notice these bumps in time but become immune to it. For instance, the PCs spend about an hour in a barracks preparing for battle. Then, they skip forwards 3 days when the barracks that they were standing in becomes a smoldering ruin. 2 rounds after that, they are stransported back days and 22 hours, right into the midst of the battle where they fight until they are once again whisked away. |
