| five_sola06-26-07, 11:05 AM | I have a question on this something I hadn't considered until a player brought it up. I want to be fair but not sure if my rulling was accurate. according to the discription when ths sphere enters a space it causes 2d6 (on a failed reflex save) . Not a problem the question is when it is in a space at the begining of the round and causes its damage and the creature dies, then it moves to a new occupied space then should it get 2d6 damage roll since it is entering in the space. It seems like a lot of damage for a lvl 2 spell but I couldn't find a way to disqualify it based on the description of the spell. Any GM's have similar issues? Would you have ruled it different? any official word? for convenience the description is included below: "A burning globe of fire rolls in whichever direction you point and burns those it strikes. It moves 30 feet per round. As part of this movement, it can ascend or jump up to 30 feet to strike a target. If it enters a space with a creature, it stops moving for the round and deals 2d6 points of fire damage to that creature, though a successful Reflex save negates that damage. A flaming sphere rolls over barriers less than 4 feet tall. It ignites flammable substances it touches and illuminates the same area as a torch would. " Thanks for the help |
| Gold Katana06-26-07, 11:34 AM | I'm not sure I understand where you need clarification. The sphere (on the caster's initiative) moves, enter an occupied square, stops, gives damage. It does not give damage at the start of caster's turn, unless that space is already occupied and the sphere does not move. Don't know if this helped. |
| Enderlaand06-26-07, 11:35 AM | Once the spell has dealt it's damage, it cannot move anymore. It deals it's damage on the caster's turn. If the spell is in a square with a creature, and kills that creature, it's done for the turn. No moving on to deal more damage. Edit: D'oh. I was just beat to it. Posting at the same time... Good to know that I had it right though. |

Only 2d6 damage for that round, and only on a failed save, but still stop whenever the save is done or failed. Next round you've to move it to TRY to deal damage again. It's not so "uber"... it is not so powerfull at all |
| five_sola06-26-07, 12:09 PM | Thanks for the clarification. the moving into a square and dealing damage was clear, just didn't know if it started out in a square and dealed damage if it moved after. ie like a character can move then attack or attack them move. Cool thanks for clearing it up. I know the double attack didn't sound right, should have followed my instincts. |

Cool thanks for clearing it up. I know the double attack didn't sound right, should have followed my instincts. Not quite. As plain written, the damage is dealt ENTERING a square. You do not deliver damage in the square the sphere start, because the enemy isn't inside the sphere anymore. To deal damage you must "move" (exit and reenter a square) and thus you stop to move again. This means you cannot move the sphere after delivering damage, no way |
