I'm looking for 3 domains. My character is basically a Dwarven war cleric. I'm taking the PHBII variant so I can't spontaneously cast healing spells nor do I want to. I can however spontaneously cast Domain Spells. My character is very heavily armored and mainly a close combat guy. He's a very vengeful character. I've looked over some of the basic domains and nothing but destruction really strikes my fancy. I don't really have to worry about which god gets what so long as the domain is not related to evil. (can't take death, domination things of that nature)

Also my DM has asked me to avoid some of the more powerful buff spells such as Righteous Might since this character is being played late game and a previous character played really unbalanced our party setup by using similar spells.

Hopefully you guys can shine some light on the idea so to speak. Any books are good except for campaign specific books.

Please Help Me XD

Check out the Spell Compendium for a compiled list of almost all domains since the PHB.

Some of the best I've found are: Time, Wrath, Spell, Force, Celerity, Luck, Magic, Kobold and Pride.

I'd suggest using the PHB2 (CoM?) variant that lets you give up a domain in order to add a wizard spell to each spell level, though. It's AWESOME.

So Time + Divine Magician Variant is what I'd do, picking up these:

1st: True Strike OR Ray of Enfeeblement
2nd: Command Undead OR Spectral Hand
3rd: Unluck
4th: Enervation OR Ray Deflection
5th: Magic Jar OR Graymantle
6th: Globe of Invulnerability OR Ray of Entropy
7th: Spell Turning OR Antimagic Ray
8th: Mind Blank OR Prying Eyes (Greater)
9th: Maw of Chaos OR Prismatic Sphere

EDIT: Added other options...

The Story of Tavis StoneHammer

Tavis Stonehammer Mercenary for hire if the cause is right. He wasn't always such once he was a king or at least a prince of sorts of a dwarven strong hold in the ? mountains trained by the clerics of his faith and the greatest warriors of his clan to lead them from there doom.

Some months before Tavis was born the Dwarven clan Stonehammer broke into what the Arch Wizard Esithanar called an elemental node though strangely enough it did not seem to correspond with any of the elemental planes. After extensive study they determined it was some how protected and decided it should be walled away and forgotten. Several months later strange events began to happen. Orcs, Drow, Duegar were being spotted in the tunnels almost daily but when hunted they could not be found. There began to be attacks in the heart of dwarven tunnels until one day a great demon was spotted in the tunnels it commenced to slaughter dwarves many of the greatest warriors of the clan were killed before it was pushed back. After that day the dwarves sealed off the lower tunnels and Closed there doors above thus sealing out all intruders and closing themselves off till they could come to a coarse of action. Tavis was born days after the Great doors were closed. It was a joyous event the elders allowed a break in the war council for Tavis' father Durin Stonehammer to see his newborn son. That night a great sound was heard through out the tunnels... something was trying to break down the doors. By the time the Durin Stonehammer and the council of elders reached the great doors stress marks were beginning to show in the adamantine doors from the constant battering of something massive. The clans engineers said the doors would fail within minutes council decided to collapse the tunnels. Something was left unconsidered though for when the dwarves doors collapsed so did the spell that prevented certain magics from working within the walls in all but the most well defended places. Such as the Temple to ? and the Great Fortress itself. With the magical protections gone the node or should I say portal that was half sealed came completely open and Gul'brithac was able to return to our plane. Bad became worse and worse became unthinkable the dwarves were locked in there own stronghold and surrounded on all sides the attacks hadn't slowed any and things were looking grim. The Clerics asked for guidance and finally had there prayer answered "Move to the broken fortress, Train the heir to the kingdom stone, and on the cresent moon of the darkest day you will be delivered. While this was plain it was not so easy the "broken fortress" was an ancient stronghold of our clan but it had been abandoned 7 generations before because it was under constant threat in the underdark. They sent out scouting parties to the ancient fortress though none ever returned and the gods words were ignored.

3 years of constant battle had finally seen the dwarves pushed deep into the underdark and trapped in a cavern where they planed to make there final stand against the horde that had attacked there home. At the head of the army waiting outside the cavern stood a great demon Gul'brithac. The clerics knew his names from legends of old but they new very little else. He was the servant of one of the old gods and nearly a demigod himself.

The dwarves saw there fate and accepted it they prepared for the final battle after days of waiting the charge of the enemy finally came but something strange happened it was as if time itself stopped... and so it had. ? spoke in the minds every dwarf of the clan. "You have failed me I told you the way and you ignored it and now you face annihilation I will save you but my aide comes with a price. The power to defeat one such as Gul'Brithac is beyond me at least for now but through a mortal he can be killed. This I will do. I will seal this cavern until they day you are ready to face him, but to do this I require something of you. Durin Stonehammer your son will be trained as my champion to the exclusion of all else and your life and that of all the council elders will be given willingly to power the spell that will close the cavern. This is my price!!!! Will you pay it or die now and your clan dies with you." Each of the elders nodded accepting there fate. Durin looked to his son and then to the high priest "Take care of me boy old friend" As the last word left his lips the god, the elders, and Durin disappeared in a bright flash and in there place stood a great eeog wall sealing the cavern. Several years passed before the Tavis was old enough to begin his training but on the day of his 10th birthday an ancient dwarf appeared from nowhere and begin his teaching over the next 50 years Tavis was taught to be a cleric and a warrior. About half way through his training he began to glow and strange amber color the priest said he was being invested with the power of ? for the battle to come. Finally Tavis' training was complete soon after the great wall came down and to the dwarves surprise there stood army just as it had stood when the wall went up. ? appeared and said this time you spent training you have spent out of time itself and so you are returning just moments after I walled you away. you have an hour prepare yourselves for your final battle to decide your fate.

Tavis haveing been trained for this day all his life prepared himself for the challenge to come. In tears he told his mother and his people that they would be victorious a great roar rose and then time snapped back into sink just as the Gul'brithac's horde began it's charge.

The battle fierce and dwarves seemed to be winning but as time wore and more and more of the dwarves last remaining weapons masters died the tides began to turn in Gul'brithacs favor. There remained only one strong point in the dwarven line a shining warrior was massacring anything that came against him so Gul'brithac decided to deal with him himself. As Gul'brithac approached combat seemed to cease and the warrior turned just as Gul'brithac began to charge. Tavis began to doubt himself for Gul'brithac was massive with huge wings and horns as big as Tavis himself a truly imposing sight but as Tavis began to falter he felt a presence in his mind and a voice rang out in his head. "I can help you with the killing blow and I'm bolstering your power and skill prepare yourself. Just as Tavis came back to himself Gul'brithac reached him Tavis threw up his shield and as the great demon made contact a bright nova of power blasted and Gul'brithac howled in pain he had a healthy respect for his opponent now and erected a barrier around himself and Tavis. They fought for hours and finally Tavis had the upper hand He called forth all the power he had and swung his massive Mace at Gul'brithac's head but he hit a barrier and the mace slid down and connected with Gul'brithac's Shoulder gravely wounding him for his final strike had the power of a god behind it. Tavis sagged he had used up all the power ? had given him over his years of training as Tavis began to pass out he saw the Demon disappear.

Some weeks later Tavis awoke to find himself surrounded by elves in some great forest with no memory at all. He could not speak with the elves he didn't even know his own name. After several weeks of recovery one day by a stream he heard a voice and followed it to find and elfin maid talking to a fish of all things. She turned and smiled her eyes were a field of stars. Tavis jumped back. "Wait, child of the deep I can tell you your name and a small portion of your past as well as how and why you are here. He stops nods and so she begins his tale by the end he is broken. The god that had nurtured him had failed and as a final action against the darkness sent him to the elves. His people had been destroyed though Gul'brithac had been beaten the army he had gathered had not and it had slaughterd Tavis' people. Tavis sat stunned for some time after she had finished finally he came back to himself with no thought and no feeling but that of vengeance. The maid looked on him with sorrow and said. Tavis' you are not ready for what is to come. You must train with the elves and learn to use the power you have been granted for though you pray for your magic you do not truly get it from a god you get it from yourself for a shard of your old god remains within you. This atop everything else was more than Tavis could stand he blacked out. Some time later he awoke to find a Whistle around his neck and note. He opened the not to find that it said "The whistle is a gift. You need a companion give it a blow and the one most suited to your soul will come. Her name is ?. Ask the elves to train you both they will help."

Tavis found himself suddenly surrounded by elves and found that he could some understand them. One of the noticed he could understand them and said. "You have been given the gift of our speech I see that bodes well for you. The lady has spoken in your behalf and you and your "Companion" will be trained in our ways blow the whistle and let us begin."

Tavis stared at the elf and then pulled the whistle form his shirt and gave it a blow. A errie music came forth from the whistle and a Unicorn seemed to appear from no where. It bowed to Tavis and in his head he heard I am ? We are to be soulbound child of stone as was the ancient way. The elves have agreed to teach us and to guide us on our journey.

Over the next several years Tavis learned to love ? and the elves and treat them almost as his own people finally one day the god ? returned to Tavis in the guise of the young elf maid and told him your training here is complete but you are not ready for the final part of your journey you must learn for yourself wisdom and strength roam the world and learn all you can seek out the arms and armor of your people you will need them. Gul'brithac was a minion of the 12 counted shadows now known as the Crushing Hand in 10 years time you should have learned enough go to the temple of ? on ? date and a group of adventures who seek to destroy the Crushing Hand will be there, Join them and complete your Destiny.

well... I copied all that over to use Firefox as a spell checker and posted it by mistake but since I've already posted it XD tell me what you guys think. The ? marks represent names I have to get from My DM and lack of names for the gods is because I have to get the Campaign book he created from him in order to figure out which gods I'm using :P

Strength, Destruction, Protection, all seem to fit your character and all have good spells in them.
