Despite the class-specific title of this thread, I think it applies to virtually any list; especially the sorcerer/wizard one.

0: create water, purify food and drink, know direction
1: command, deathwatch, entropic shield, hide from undead, calm animals, charm animal, detect animals or plants, detect snares and pits, faerie fire, hide from animals, pass without trace, produce flame, speak with animals
2: augury, calm emotions, enthrall, find traps, make whole, shield other, silence, status, zone of truth, animal messenger, chill metal, heat metal, hold animal, soften earth and stone, tree shape, warp wood, wood shape
3: create food and water, deeper darkness, helping hand, invisibility purge, magic vestment, meld into stone, searing light, speak with dead, water walk, call lightning, diminish plants, dominate animal, plant growth, quench, snare, speak with plants,
4: air walk, discern lies, divination, giant vermin, imbue with spell ability, repel vermin, spell immunity, antiplant shell, command plants, rusting grasp
5: greater command, flame strike, insect plague, mark of justice, slay living, spell resistance, animal growth, awaken, call lightning storm, control winds, wall of thorns
6: animate objects, blade barrier, heroes' feast, word of recall, wind walk, antilife shell, ironwood, repel wood, spellstaff,
7: animate plants, creeping doom, fire storm, sunbeam, transmute metal to wood, destruction, cloudwalkers, master earth, storm tower, waterspout
8: animal shapes, control plants, earthquake, repel metal or stone, whirlwind, greater spell immunity, mass awaken, stormrage
9: implosion, elemental swarm, imprison soul, cast in stone, tsunami, greater whirlwind, shadow landscape

I don't think I'm alone in this. Anyone else want to get in on the debate?

Antilife Shell. Probably the better version of Wizard's Repulsion.
Destruction. Probably the better version of Wizard's Finger of Death.
And so on...

What about awaken or animate objects? The fairy-tale wizard was known for making things talk that shouldn't (though the fact that medieval peasants had to scrounge for food in the woods and had yet to be introduced to the Just Say No campaign might be the true source of such tales). And animate objects is even noted in Permanency, an exclusively sor/wiz spell [in Core].

I can see the case some of those spells, particularly the transmutation ones. My ampaigns have always included animate object as a wizard spell because that is one associate with mages, that and we can't go making Mickey out to be a liar now can we?

Care to elaborate?

By everyone I mean people with access to the sor/wiz list, because I really don't give a rat's pube about most other kinds of people.

Then why didnt you make a thread that read "Clerc spells that I WISH where wizard spells.

The only criteria you seem to have put in place for decideing if something SHOULD be a wizard spell is if its better than a spell that a wizard has?

Perhapes im just missing something.
What do you belive should seperate a wizard spell from a non wizard spell?

My, that's original!

Many of those spells, like Animate Object, Make Whole and the like could easily be on the Wizard list. Others maybe not.

The way I have handled this is to allow mages to research certain spells either themselves or comission the research, or both. That did not allow them any spell. Those that were clearly divine, like healing, certain plant and animal domain spells and others, just wouldn't translate. I don't have a list of spells either way, but it was just more of a judgement call.
