| westward02-16-08, 10:46 AM | A cleric must prepare at least one spell from his domain spell list everyday. Can he prepare more than one spell from his domain list, or can he prepare two of the same domain spell provided he has sufficient spell slots? For example, a 6th level cleric has the Travel domain, and he has 4 third level spell slots. Can he prepare more than one Fly spell? Thanks in advance for sharing the knowledge. |

Each domain gives him access to a domain spell at each spell level from 1st to 9th, as well as a special granted power. With access to two domain spells at each spell level—one from each of his two domains—a cleric must prepare, as an extra domain spell, one or the other each day for each level of spell he can cast. If a domain spell is not on the cleric spell list, it can be prepared only in a domain spell slot. So no, you cannot prepare a domain spell in a regular slot if it isn't already a cleric spell. Now you could get away preparing two of the same domain spell if you modified one with metamagic to cast at a higher level. |

A domain spell that is not also a cleric spell can be prepared the same way with the restrictions of domain spells. For example a 3rd level Cleric can prepare Bless in a 2nd level slot if he so chooses. A 9th level Cleric with the Travel Domain can prepare Fly (a 3rd level Domain spell) in his 4th level domain slot if he wished, but not in a normal Cleric slot since it is not a Cleric spell. |
| Seeker9502-16-08, 02:35 PM | You can always prepare a lower level spell in a higher level slot. The restriction on domain spells is that they must appear in a domain slot. But preparing a third level domain spell in both the third level and fourth level domain slots is perfectly acceptable. *dang* ninja'd by kalstrand! |

Well, at least I got the answer to the original question right. |
