Clerical Domain-to-plane analogies (e.g. good-Elysium, fire-Plane of Fire, etc) [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have a little pet project called planar mediumship (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=816375) designed to allow people to play clerics without following an established religion, without allowing "pick whatever two domains you feel like" either.

Anyway, planar mediums are basically clerics who channel the power of the planes, inner and outer. Unlike a traditional cleric, but like a rogue, fighter, or sorcerer, their magic isn't dependent on any particular faith, but is rather a matter of practice, skill, and experience.

I'm thinking their domain choices will basically be analogies to the planes. Most of these are fairly obvious (the alignment domains correspond to the outer planes, the elemental domains correspond to the inner planes, and I said that healing is analogous to the positive energy plane and death is analogous to the negative energy plane).

However, I realized that I left out the transitional planes -- the astral, ehtereal, and shadow planes.

So here's what I have so far for domains and planes:

Astral Plane -- Travel?
Elemental Plane of Air -- Air
Elemental Plane of Earth -- Earth
Elemental Plane of Fire -- Fire
Elemental Plane of Water -- Water
Elysium -- Good
Ethereal Plane -- ???
Gray Waste -- Evil
Limbo -- Chaos
Mechanus -- Law
Negative Energy Plane -- Death
Plane of Shadow -- Shadow?
Positive Energy Plane -- Healing

I'm a bit hesitant about the domains for the Negative Energy Plane, the Plane of Shadow, and the Positive Energy Plane, but it's really the Astral Plane and Etherial Plane that get me, because I really am not sure what the appropriate domains for them are. I provisionally put "travel" on the Astral Plane, because it seems to be used for travelling a lot in D&D, but I really am completely stumped on the Ethereal.

No one has any ideas on what domain might go with ethereal, I suppose?

Didn't they *have* this, in Spell Compendium, already? (I think it was a reprint from Planar Handbook.)

Ah. I wasn't aware of that. I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, it was like the "Abyss Domain" or the "Elysium Domain."

Took both your domain slots, had better granted powers, and two spells/level.

Oh, I see. That's not exactly what I was looking for. (Basically, I think that with the elemental and alignment planes, I already have pretty much what I want (drawing exclusively from the Abyss would mean having the Chaos and Evil domains). It's just the transitive planes and, to a lesser extent, the positive and negative energy planes, that I'm having trouble with.
