According to the SRD, the pearl/wine infusion is listed as an Arcane Material Component of the Identify spell.

Now I would take this to mean that a cleric with the Magic Domain would be able to cast this without cost. Am I interpreting this right?

Also, would this also apply to the spell cast through the Extra Domain feat or similar abilities from prestige classes? What about abilities like the Geomancer's (I think that's the right prC, the one with drift) ability to merge spells so they function as either divine or arcane.

Huh. I never noticed that before... but, yeah -- it looks like you don't have to pay if you're a clerical caster! How weird!

Is this a typo? On something like StoneSkin, it just says "Material Component" and counts for everyone...

For Extra Domain and Geomancer... Hmm.

I would say that Extra Domain casts as the Divine version, since you'd be taking a domain that really doesn't help you much, being an arcane caster already!

A Geomancer could use the divine version, too -- Spell Versatility says "If a spell requires either an arcane material component or a divine focus, he may use either." Identify does indeed require either a pearl or a divine focus, so he can use either version he likes -- and if he has a working brain he'll go for the cheap one.

No, this is not a typo, it is an official rule.

They wanted to give people a cheaper low level way of identifying things.

Note that for some spells, the component part list as "..., M/DF" where as others list as "..., M, DF" or "..., M, F/DF" to show whether or not the Material component is required for Divine casting.
