| Shadowfax711-08-04, 04:07 PM | Clerics must pray for 1 hour at a certain time of the day in order to prepare their spells. However, does this praying have to occur every day regardless of whether a Cleric has used any spells the day before ?? Would a Cleric retain the spells prepared the day before and be able to cast the spells which weren't cast the next day w/o the need to pray the next day ?? |
| Aracor11-08-04, 04:11 PM | He only needs to pray if he wants to renew or change spells. They're maintained on their own until cast or otherwise removed. ~Aracor |
| primemover00311-08-04, 04:15 PM | What? Of course he doesn't need to pray for spells... but he should show his devotions to his patron deity. If he starts skipping his prayers his god may become a little miffed. a few times due to being involved in a running battle with orcs is one thing. If he's out carousing with the fighter in a tavern the night before and sleeps through his dawn prayers (for example) too often it will become a problem. |

| Shadowfax711-08-04, 04:22 PM | Thanx for your replies, but can either of you support your posts with the RAW. Here is a quote from the SRD which incurred those questions . . . Each cleric must choose a time at which he must spend 1 hour each day in quiet contemplation or supplication to regain his daily allotment of spells. |
| Seeker9511-08-04, 04:28 PM | You provided the quote that answers the question, but highlighted the wrong word: Each cleric must choose a time at which he must spend 1 hour each day in quiet contemplation or supplication to regain his daily allotment of spells. It says regain -- to gain again. To get them back, he needs to pray. If he has not used them in the first place, there is nothing to regain. |
| Aracor11-08-04, 04:32 PM | Yes. I support it with exactly what you said: Each cleric must choose a time at which he must spend 1 hour each day in quiet contemplation or supplication to regain his daily allotment of spells. Emphasis mine. To regain spells, he needs to pray. If he doesn't need to regain spells, he doesn't NEED to pray. Although I have to actually agree with primemover003 on this one as well. Your god may very well start punishing you if you actually start missing praying sessions just because you have all your spells. A cleric is supposed to be actually devoted, not just toss an occasional prayer to his deity when he needs something. Sounds more like whining than devotion :) ~Aracor |
