| Toombs7904-18-08, 06:40 PM | I would love to hear of your clever uses for a Simulacrum as well as whether or not the spell is worth it. I mean, it seems like it could be quite the broken spell. At 13th level, you can create a double of yourself casting support spells (6th level) like haste and other buffs. Or, you could create a guardian, a slain monster perhaps and make it at 13 HD. I'd love to hear about your neat tricks with this spell. Simulacrum Illusion (Shadow) Level: Sor/Wiz 7 Components: V, S, M, XP Casting Time: 12 hours Range: 0 ft. Effect: One duplicate creature Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No Simulacrum creates an illusory duplicate of any creature. The duplicate creature is partially real and formed from ice or snow. It appears to be the same as the original, but it has only one-half of the real creature’s levels or Hit Dice (and the appropriate hit points, feats, skill ranks, and special abilities for a creature of that level or HD). You can’t create a simulacrum of a creature whose Hit Dice or levels exceed twice your caster level. You must make a Disguise check when you cast the spell to determine how good the likeness is. A creature familiar with the original might detect the ruse with a successful Spot check (opposed by the caster’s Disguise check) or a DC 20 Sense Motive check. At all times the simulacrum remains under your absolute command. No special telepathic link exists, so command must be exercised in some other manner. A simulacrum has no ability to become more powerful. It cannot increase its level or abilities. If reduced to 0 hit points or otherwise destroyed, it reverts to snow and melts instantly into nothingness. A complex process requiring at least 24 hours, 100 gp per hit point, and a fully equipped magical laboratory can repair damage to a simulacrum. Material Component The spell is cast over the rough snow or ice form, and some piece of the creature to be duplicated (hair, nail, or the like) must be placed inside the snow or ice. Additionally, the spell requires powdered ruby worth 100 gp per HD of the simulacrum to be created. XP Cost 100 XP per HD of the simulacrum to be created (minimum 1,000 XP). |
| Beware of Kobold04-18-08, 07:22 PM | Steal some fingernail clippings from the King, noble, other authority figure and make yourself a new best friend with a lot of clout. Soak up some of the BBEGs lieutenant's blood after you slay him, and use it to create a spy that has access to your hated nemesis. A less "clever" use for the absolutely amoral... get ahold of the Princesses hairbrush and make an obedient, living, errrr... toy. |
| Suspect_Unusual04-18-08, 07:30 PM | Use a candle of invocation, call in a nigh-omnipotent celestial being of immense power of similar alignment, then ask for a fingernail clipping (or feather, or scale, or whatever) or two. Solar, for example: 1100 xp and 8.5k gp for a 11 HD being that, among other things, has both Wish and Permanancy as a spell-like ability (once or more a day)? Yeah, hard to say no, there. Perhaps this thread should be about non-gamebreaking uses of Simulacrum... |
| Dinendal04-28-08, 01:53 PM | Good idea, but wouldn't the half-level take out some of those spells and abilities from the Solar that was created? "but it has only one-half of the real creature’s levels or Hit Dice (and the appropriate hit points, feats, skill ranks, and special abilities for a creature of that level or HD)." |

"but it has only one-half of the real creature’s levels or Hit Dice (and the appropriate hit points, feats, skill ranks, and special abilities for a creature of that level or HD)." Neither the spell-like abilities nor the spellcasting is directly linked to HD... A 40 HD Solar has the exact same spellcasting and spell-like abilities, and at the exact same CL, as a 22 HD Solar. |
| Senevri04-28-08, 04:26 PM | Of course, no DM in the world is going to let that fly. But, in general the idea is good, and you STILL can argue for 6th level casting. |
