I want to create a Cloak of Displacement that combines the exact effects of both the Minor and the Major versions, and call it a "Cloak of Displacement, True". In other words, the 20% miss chance continuously, and the option to kick in the 50% miss chance for 15 rounds per day. I am not suggesting in any way, shape, or form, that they stack; only that it is either 20% OR 50%, as desired. Here is all of the relevant information. What interpretation of these rules should I apply for figuring the market price? Cloak of Displacement, Minor: This item appears to be a normal cloak, but when worn by a character its magical properties distort and warp light waves. This displacement works similar to the displacement spell except that it only grants a 20% miss chance on attacks against the wearer. It functions continually. Faint illusion; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, displacement; Price 24,000 gp;Weight 1 lb. Cloak of Displacement, Major: This item appears to be a normal cloak, but on command its magical properties distort and warp light waves. This displacement works just like the displacement spell and lasts for a total of 15 rounds per day, which the wearer can divide up as she sees fit. Moderate illusion; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, Extend Spell, displacement; Price 50,000 gp;Weight 1 lb. ADDING NEW ABILITIES A creator can add new magical abilities to a magic item with no restrictions. The cost to do this is the same as if the item was not magical. Thus, a +1 longsword can be made into a +2 vorpal longsword, with the cost to create it being equal to that of a +2 vorpal sword minus the cost of a +1 sword. If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a character’s body the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5. Multiple Similar Abilities: For items with multiple similar abilities that don’t take up space on a character’s body use the following formula: Calculate the price of the single most costly ability, then add 75% of the value of the next most costly ability, plus one-half the value of any other abilities. Multiple Different Abilities: Abilities such as an attack roll bonus or saving throw bonus and a spell-like function are not similar, and their values are simply added together to determine the cost. For items that do take up a space on a character’s body each additional power not only has no discount but instead has a 50% increase in price. Thanks in advance, Neue |

Step 1: Turn them both into Iounstones: 100k for Major, 48 k for Minor. Step 2: Combine them as similar = 100k + 48*.75 = 136,000 gp for an Ioun Stone that makes you always get 20% and for 15 rounds you get 50% P.S. You can't take 136/2 to get 68k for a cloak that does what the Ioun stone does. |
