Ok, here is an odd question I thought of the other night...

Lets say the BBEG has a plan to hide out for a while so the heat is off him or her for a bit by letting the party come across his or her cloned (as per the spell Clone) body...

Now, a thinking player descides to see if they can talk to the BBEG with the spell Speak with Dead and casts it upon the clone...

Now, the clone spell never says that the clone is a corpse, but I still wonder how this should be played out...

Should the spell fail as per the conditions not being met for the casting of the spell?... Would the player have to be informed that the spell failed due to the target not being a corpse?...

Or, I could go the other way and just say it failed to to another reason...

Any thoughts on this would be great...

As the spell says, the target needs to be "One Dead Creature"

Now, as far as I know, that which did not live cannot die. The effect would be the same if someone cast an illusion of a corpse upon a rock.

I guess the rules dont really state anywhere what would happen. So its gonna be an "I'd say" thing. So, I'd say :D that the player casts the spell but it has no effect. He would probably assume that speak wih dead had already been used on the clone not long ago (cant use speak with dead on the same corpse within a week) He might get a bit annoyed if the party decides to wait a week to try again ^_^
