i have some questions about the clone spell

first how many clones can you have in storage at one time.

next dose the lvl loss go against your lvl or the lvl the you were when you created the clone the spell in the PHB says the clone awakens one lvl lower then you. but dose not state if that is if you are the same lvl you were when it was created.

i would say (and this is with no books with me) you can have as many Clones as you want in stasis. but the clones will activate at one level lower than you were when you made them.

this is kinda an auto balanceing answer. if you have the funds to create multiple closes, it would be nice to have redundant back up. having to keep remaking unused clones keeps your clone supply limited. thats where the auto balanceing comes in.

though you could keep a bunch of clones in back up and just up grade there equipment. a level 6 wizard with a 2 full wands of lvl9 spells, is a force to be recond with. untill he levels back up.

you can have as many clones as you want (read Manshoon in FR)

you revive 1 level lower than when you died see it as a kinda mental trauma the same way when you get resurected
cause its experience you do not lose your mental stat changes but physical ones gets the way they were when you made the clone

The text says to treat the clone as if it were the original character raised from the dead. I would read that as one level lower than you were when you died, not when you created the clone. As for how many clones you can have... the text doesn't specify a limit so I don't see why you couldn't have more than one, but that's a lot of resources for incubating/preserving the inert bodies.

once the lab is set up would it not be able to be used on other clones as well and as for preserving them urguent of timelessness on pg268 in the DMG would persevrve up to 8 such clones if any of this is wrong let me know

Right, the lab equipment (500 gp) is a "focus" so it wouldn't be used up in the casting. You still have to spend 1000 gp each time for lab supplies that are used up.

The unguent says it works on material that "was once alive." So there's room for interpretation here. Were the clones ever alive? Are they still alive?

The spell uses a bit of flesh from the subject and creates an "inert" body. Whether or not this translates into "was alive" and "is no longer alive" I think is debatable.

Gentle Repose craft wonderous as a room enhancement is half cost. and you can stack them like cordwood.

A Thought Bottle from Complet Arcane cost 20,000 gp and you can spend 500 exp per clone and make Clones effectivily True Reserection

just stash them on the astral (or another timeless plane) and POOF problem solved.

I'm using clones for my demi-lich actually. since i want to keep my NG alignment that i worked hard to change. i'm not hurting any one or anything when i reform after I die. and since i want my inert clones to have decomposed/died, its all good. ^_^

but yea, you can have unlimited clones. but it'll cost you 1000 everytime you make one.
