Sorry for this I am a newer player to the D&D world. and even newer to playing a cleric. I have all of 8 hours practice so far.

I joined in with a bunch of friends as an 8th level cleric. And this is my question obviously about close wounds.

We were in a battle and one of the party had taken More than half his life points in 1 shot. So i Cast Close wounds as an Imm action. And then we ended up in this debate.

My close wounds cures 1d4+5 Points of damage. Now reading it it says if cast immediatly after subject takes damage that damage is prevented. I was told that it would only prevent 1d4+5 points of damage. That didn't make sense to me and I was wondering if it is understood that way and I just missed it.

Also is it only Castable after the monster makes its full round attack, done between atacks, or just whenever I choose.

Sorry for the stupid sounding question I am just trying to understand what is going on.

It can "prevent" or cure 1d4+5 points of damage. And it can be used at ANY point, so long as you aren't Flat-Footed.

If you simply cast it on your wounded friend, it heals 1d4+5 damage.

If you cast it on your friend immediately after he took a hit that dropped him to -10 hp, then it prevents 1d4+5 damage and he doesn't die. A simple cure spell wouldn't work here, that's why they use this language.
