| AndrasOtto11-16-07, 08:16 PM | Does the damage dealt by cloud of Knives spell (PHB2) count as weapon damage or magic damage for the purposes of effects that give a bonus to 'weapon damage' such as Divine Favor? It shoots a knife subject to DR that counts as magic for DR. Also, does the knife do piercing damage? It seems like it would but it's not specified. Thanks Andras edited to clarify |
| VulcanStormwrath11-16-07, 09:26 PM | It counts as sucking damage because this is by far one of the most worthless "cool looking" spells you will ever waste a slot on. |

Oh, you think dealing an additional 1d6+ damage as a free action per round sucks? @AndrasOtto: I think it should be non-magical damage, since it's a conjuration spell. I conjures actual knives. |
| AndrasOtto11-17-07, 08:45 AM | Fabius, it states it counts as magic for the purposes of DR, my question was for bonuses to 'weapon damage' such as Divine Favor. |

| MongooseFamiliar12-09-07, 03:24 PM | When compared to Ring of Blades? Yeah it does. You are comparing Cloud of Knives, a Level 2 spell, to Ring of Blades, a Level 3 spell. Of course Ring of Blades is going to be more impressive. However, Ring of Blades only extends five feet from you, so you have to be right on top of something to do damage. Cloud of Knives does the damage from 30 feet away. Ring of Blades is generally defensive, Cloud of Knives is offensive. They have different applications and different levels, so it is silly to try and compare them in terms of which is better. |
| Mesiolan12-11-07, 01:53 AM | Ring of Blades is nice if you wade into melee and do not inted to heal your comrades as a cleric. Move to comrade, cure him. On his turn, he MUST go away, or he'll be taking damage at the beginning of your next turn. Moving away is not always possible on the battlefield, as we all know. Question on Cloud of Knives: Does the release of the blade (free action at the beginning of your turn) provoke AoO? It's a ranged attack roll, so it should. This would downgrade the spell, since you must hurl the knife before taking your 5' step. |
