Hello :)
I was wondering what would happen if someone would cast a spell like Domination on an ettin or, in fact, any creature that have more than one personnality at the same time.

Anyone can help? In my opinion you have to cast it twice (or at least the actual number of active personnalities at a time) to affect the whole creature.

Well, by RAW since the target line in Dominate Monster says:

Target: One creature

it doesnt matter how many heads/personalities the target has if it is one creature. It would be like asking for multible spells for bigger creatures...

You are free to houserule of course.

Well the thing that really made me doubt is that the ettin has two heads and both heads have a specific personnality and control a half of the body...

Doesnt the description of Demogorgon say that he has to be hit twice with stuff like that because of his two heads? I think he also get major combat and spell advantages as well. Not that an ettin can compare but it's food for thought. Perhaps an ettin truly doesn't have two distinct personalities

well, I would go with that Dominate is magical, and Ettins aren't spiffy enough to prevent it from hitting both heads like a demogorgon apparently is. However, things like diplomacy or bluff would be harder to use against an ettin as you have to deal with 2 personalities.

Demogorgon is more than a creature with two heads. He's actually a dual being, it's part of his personification of Chaos that he isn't just one thing.

Specific text in the rules for creatures with multiple heads aside, the spell targets the creature, not just its mind. The rules are quite clear. Otherwise, hydras would be madness.
