I was using color spray in the last game. Them I pick up my 3.5 players handbook and go look out how the spell works.
A thing left me confused.
In the spell list has this text:
"Color Spray: Knocks unconscious, blinds, and/or stuns 1d6 weak creatures."

But when I it was to read the description of the magic...

"Color Spray
Illusion (Pattern) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 15 ft.
Area: Cone-shaped burst
Duration: Instantaneous; see text
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes
A vivid cone of clashing colors springs forth from your hand, causing creatures to become stunned, perhaps also blinded, and possibly knocking them unconscious.
Each creature within the cone is affected according to its Hit Dice.
2 HD or less: The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. (Only living creatures are knocked unconscious.)
3 or 4 HD: The creature is blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, then stunned for 1 round.
5 or more HD: The creature is stunned for 1 round.
Sightless creatures are not affected by color spray.
Material Component: A pinch each of powder or sand that is colored red, yellow, and blue."

So, my question is...
I have to roll the D6? Or dont need the roll anymore?

You don't need the roll. If the short description and the long description conflict, you use the latter.

A copy/paste error from 3.0

no.
In the 3.0, the text says about the 1D6 creatures.
The text is diferent.
Maybe I get luck and Skip, anwers my question. :)

:uh-huh:

I only speak english. And the text in the 3.5 spell summary (pg. 192) is exactly the same as the spell summary text in the 3.0 PHB (pg. 168) with the addition of "and/".

That is the *ONLY* difference between the spell summary texts, and it is quite obviously a copy/paste error.

Huh?
In the books that I have, the texts are different.
It does not say anything. It must have an official errata.

Are you on the same pages? (no really - it does matter)

No.
You are reading only the spell list.
Read the spell description.

Exactly, to prove his point, but just let that go for now.

Read the spell description.

The description doesn't say anything about rolling 1d6. In short, don't roll 1d6. Why? There's nothing to roll for. Why? The spell says nothing about it. Why? Because there's no roll.

Move along. ;)

There isn't; but there was in 3.0. And it still says you need to roll in the spell list of the 3.5! But it should be a typo of the spell list (like someone said - a copy-paste error) - I think that you don't need to roll anymore.
3.5 spells have been simplified a little... (though I think that this makes Color Spray a benchmark 1st level spell!)

Especially with Sleep being relegated to a full round casting time so that it isn't quite the killer save-or-die that it used to be. And the fact that it's an illusion instead of an enchantment, so slightly less things are immune/resistant to it at that low level. Color Spray is good to have, certainly.

And this isn't 3.0, and the spell description always trumps the entry in the spell list...thus, moving along. ;)

Anyways, there was a serious language barrier, and I'm just not very patient.

OOOO Yess, it is a very powerfull spell.
I save the day when I used.
The only "problem" is that the spell doesn´t get better as long you lvl up, it is always the same effect.

It's also kind of ridiculous too. Who cares if you're blinded, you're stunned you can't act anyway!!! It's a great spell but it never really mad any sense why stun comes last when it's the most powerful effect.

I suppose it could be useful for running and hiding, or against creatures that are immune to stunning for some reason. (As a stunned creature could notice which way you went, whereas a stunned and blind creature would come to its senses with no idea where you ran off to.)

Which is exactly what you asked about - why there is a difference between the list and the description. It is a copy and paste error.
