okie dokie. I'm trying to make a build for a level 40 game. very high powered if you know what I mean. I'm thinking of making a Flesh Colossus and using magic jar to possess it. one of the abilities of Flesh Colossus is as follows from the SRD.

Antimagic Field (Ex)
A colossus constantly generates an antimagic field in a 100-foot-radius. The field is an invisible barrier that is impervious to most magical effects, including spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities. Likewise, it prevents the functioning of any magic items or spells within its confines, except for the colossus’s own supernatural abilities. This effect is otherwise as an antimagic field cast by a 25th-level caster.

now hypothetical question. someone casts MDJ on me. I have the initiate of mystra feat which allows me to cast spells in an AMF. now I see a few possibilities.

1. MDJ with the range of 125 feet goes right through the AMF and is cenetered on me dispelling things through the antmagic field and I automatically loose all my buffs.

2. MDJ cant be cast beyond the AMF radius and the 30' burst penetrats into the field but since its not far enough it doesnt do anything. the antimagic field is an EX ability and cant be dispelled and is continueous so even if it was stopped would start up at the same time it stopped.

3. MDJ with the range of 125 feet is centered on me but needs to dispell the AMF effect as if it were a normal AMF according to the rules of MDJ. if it does it immediatly effects all my spells and I loose all my buffs,

which one of these scenarios is correct?

1) Initiate of Mystra should by definition seek to destroy any such anti-magic field. You worship the god of magic. What are you doing creating and using anti-magic, the thing she hates so much she made you immune to it? Mystra should summoning you to answer for your sins or be excommunicated shortly.

Religion has a social cost that is supposed to help balance the fact that it can do more than regular magic.

2) As the effect says "as an antimagic field cast by a 25th level caster", option # 3 is the correct response for anything less than an Anything Goes game.

Really? Then why does Mystra grant the Magic Domain, with it's lower-level AMF? What about Dispel Magic? :P

Just because these things negate most spells, it doesn't mean that a deity of magic should inherently oppose them. They are invariably the product of, hey, magic in any case.

this is irrelevant to the orriginal question. and while I repect you opinion that is all this is. your opinion. As has been stated earlier there is quite a bit of evidence that mystra supports all spells (as long as there not horribly abused) including the kind of spells that stop other spells. I could go on with more fluff arguements towards this but its not really getting us any where.

in this campaign... okay its not actually a campaign its a 40th level character creation on the Char Op boards... the only things so far that have been disallowed are BoED, BoVD, dragon magazine, online material and infinite loop combos. as its for the char op boards yes anything within those parameters is allowed and encouraged no matter how broken it is. So according to the rules is #3 still correct. and please dont let how you would GM the situation effect your judgement. I probably wouldnt allow such a combo in my games ether but like I said this is a competition and anything within the parameteres goes and the stronger the better.
