| m_man9609-10-04, 08:45 PM | I've been thinking about the magic vs. psionics problem for the past week, and after reading Christopher Paoulini's novel Eragon I had an idea: what if we, the hardworking members of the WotC boards, combined magic and psionics? In theory, it would solve the magic vs. psionics problem and it would provide us with something really cool to work with. Here's my idea for a combination: magical force and psionic force are one and the same; they are used by speaking words first invented and scribed by the first sorcerer that started the Age of Magic (the history of my world is varied and fierce, but it's so cool!!). This language is simply referred to as Ancient by most scholars, since the words are reflections of the words spoken and sung by Ore (OR-ay) at the dawn of time when the sun first rose. Magic refers to both spells and psionics, mind. Magic in this setting is nothing but an innate ability to change the natural state of the world (Oren [Or-AIN]) according to your will. Each word you speak to cast a spell uses up a little of your personal power, which if you're a sorcerer, is innate to you when you're born. Sorcerers are always picked randomly by the gods as wielders of magic. Wizards are rare, but the ones that do exist are most often evil as the desire for power often drives such people to master such difficult arcane techniques alone. The even rarer wizards who use their powers for good are some of the most devoted fighters of evil in the world! What do you think? Other ideas are welcome! |
