| TeenageHeat04-03-07, 12:26 PM | hey, this kid i know said that his old DM allowed him to combine spells. for example, he said he was allowed to cast Web and Magic Missile at the same time to create a Spiderman-like web throw and fling his enemies around. i dont know, this sounds like a load of BS, i just wanted to know if there was any ruling or like metamagic feat that allowed this. maybe his DM was just retarded? does anyone know of anything? |
| Seeker9504-03-07, 01:38 PM | Houserule. It is not retarded. Just a houserule. |
| LordThavian04-03-07, 01:55 PM | I agree, it usually is a house rule for i have yet to see antything that (officially) grants spellcasters the ability to combine spells that is balanced with the game! Though if anyone knows of any, I too would be interested! Though i do remember seeing something back in my ol' 2nd Edition days of how if 2 spellcasters (a wizard & a cleric) combined the spells magic missile, tensers floating disk and blade barrier, you would get the D&D equivalent of Krillin's Destructo Disk from DBZ! :D Just can't remember where the original idea came from?! |

Below is my interpretation of what they did. This is assuming that the spell was used to sling the opponent around rather than bind them like Hold Person would do. If anyone who plays a spellcaster has any tips for adjusting this, send me a private message. __________________ Web Sling (Evocation/Conjuration) Level: 3 (Spellcraft DC 18) Components: V, S, M (same material as Web) Casting Time: Full-round Action Range: Short (25+5/2 caster levels) Duration: 1 round/2 caster levels (max 5 rounds) Saving Throw: No Spell Resistance: No The caster shoots forth a web which sticks to the target, allowing a reflex save to avoid. The caster then swings the web around, slapping the entangled creature into the ground, walls and any other obstacles, dealing 2d6 damage per round. Each round (except the first), the target creature is allowed an Escape Artist check (DC 15 + 1/caster level) to escape the bonds. |
| Lanoitakude04-03-07, 02:33 PM | Just rule it as if the caster is researching a new spell, because that's basically what it is. I don't see how combining the flavor of Magic Missile and Web creates anything like the spell he described. Maybe Telekenisis+Web or Bull's Strength+Web or something. But Magic Missile? I don't think so. If you are a DM, DO NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO COMBINE SPELLS WHENEVER THEY WANT! This is opening a door to major havoc and chaos. Unless you want to write out a massive rules set on how to handle this, don't open that door. If a player wants to be creative with his spells, play an illusionist. This sort of thing just begs abuse. If a player were to combine two spells into one, that spell should take a spell slot of at least the combined total of the ingredient spells (so Magic Missile+Web = 3rd level spell, Web+Bull's Strength = 4th level spell, etc). Consider making it 1 or more spell levels higher than this, due to the fact that it is effectively "quickening" one of the spells. |
