| CrimsonRyoko08-18-06, 07:32 AM | Just an idea i had, could probably use some balance and wording advise. Used Raise Dead and Revive undead as a base. The main thing i want to keep in is the fact that you raise immediately, but have a very short time to get Actually ressed. Here we go --------------------------------- Last Stand Necromancy Clr 5, Sor/Wiz 6 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 Hour Range: Personal Target: You Duration: Permanent (D)/One day per caster level. Save: None Spell Resistance: No You imbue yourself with necromantic energies, insuring that if slain, you will return as a zombie. Upon death, granted your body remains intact, you rise one round later as zombie. When raised apply the zombie template to your character with the following exceptions. You maintain your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scroes, base saves, skills, and feats, unless being undead or Single Actions would otherwise prevent them from being in effect. You rise with full hit points based upon your new Hit Die. A character who died with prepared spells retains all spells memorized he had before death, and a character who spontaneously casts spells retains all unused spell slots. Once activated, the zombification only lasts one day per caster level, at the end of this period the character is destroyed as if it had been taken down to 0 hit points. If you are slain while zombified, you face all penalties assosiated with death to undead, and can only be raised with True Ressurection, or Mirable. Revive Undead does not revive a character slain while under the effects of this spell. Rising in this manner does not subject you to any reduction of level, Hit Dice, or Constitution, and beings with a Constitution of 2 or less can be temporarily raised in this manner. Unlike normal undeath, this form will not prevent you from being raised with raise dead or reincarnate. Being raised with raise dead or reincarnate still lowers your level as per the spell descriptions. Material Component: Black onyx worth atleast 2000 gp, and a zombie of atleast your hit die, which is destroyed in the casting. -------------------Comments?--------------------------- |
| Shaggy_Shaggs08-18-06, 07:43 AM | I'm not sure about the balance issues of putting it at that level, but I like the idea. Sort of like coming back as a revenant, except you can ensure it happens, and you don't have to be a vengeance-filled ball of anger to do it. |
| CrimsonRyoko08-19-06, 04:49 AM | Well due to the fact that you only remain raised for one day per caster level, its use is small, its mainly a way to get to a place to get raised. I did think of removing spellcasting ability to make it harder, but if you say, Drown or something, you may need spells to get out. Also considering you are a spellcaster to use the spell, removing all of your abilities would make the spell almost worthless. The main reason i wanted immediate raising with spells in tact is so that you have a chance to get away. Not to mention that most clerics who could raise you may kill you on sight. Definately not an exploitable spell in most universes, but it has its uses. Especially if your cleric survives whatever combat or situation that kills you. |

It's intact (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=intact). I believe you want Ressurection, not Reincarnate, or perhaps both. Let's look at this from a church/temple perspective, especially one where the temple is hiring a group of adventurers to go do something. Should the temple be able to cast this on the party? I'd say so, and willing participants don't need to make their saving throw. A party member might be morally opposed, but be strong-armed by the rest of the party, so give them a Will save. So make it Range: Touch and Saving Throw: Will, see text. A caster could still perform this on themself, but they could also do it on other party members. The casting time makes it a not-in-the-dungeon spell, which is good, so it can't be cast on adversaries. I'd give it a limitation of being castable once per week, so that the temple could run out of availability. "Need this cast on the whole party? Well, each of you visit at this time, one week apart..." I would modify "Rising in this manner does not lower your Hit Die" to "Rising in this manner does not subject you to any reduction of level, Hit Dice, or Constitution, and beings with a Constitution of 2 or less can be temporarily raised in this manner." Or perhaps make having a Constitution of 3 or greater be a requirement for the subject. |
| bobbilcon08-19-06, 11:19 AM | I like the spell. It could be fun to use on that "ball of anger" of a bbeg.... One question. When the zombie fourm of you gets destroyed can you still be resed? |
| CrimsonRyoko08-19-06, 05:32 PM | Uther -Ah yes, grammer hits me for 2pts. Ill change intact. -I should add ressurection to the list of things, i had forgotten it lowers your level. But Raise dead and Reincarnate still do also. -Making the spell Personal was part of the balance issue. Making it an autores spell should make it a higher level then say a straight raise dead, but limiting its use to the spellcaster himself keeps them from doing your exact example of keeping the whole party going. -Thats much better game term usage! I will modify it :D Thanks bobbilcon -If your body gest destroyed in zombie form, you would take the same penalties as a zombies does upon death, True Res, or Mirable only. And then you simply become your old living self as per their rules with undead. I will have to add that in, thanks. Anyone else, idead? |
| King Bulba08-19-06, 06:32 PM | Swore I have seen a spell like this. You get animated but not a true undead so you can still get rezed. The version I saw was pretty debillitating though since it was for non combat things like transportation. |
| CrimsonRyoko08-19-06, 08:11 PM | Well if you have seen a spell similar, i would love to read it. This idea came about because i was thinking of a way to use animate dead with contingency, but i would lose all my int, so i wouldnt be me. |
