| Crim03-08-06, 06:44 PM | Here's the situation: the level 5 Dread Necromancer (heros of horror) in our party cast Control undead (2nd level spell, PHB) on a mummy, which failed its save. 4 rounds later he successfully gains control of another mummy. we now have 2 mummies following our party for 5 days. The two mummies are straight out of the monster manual, unmodified. My two questions are: 1: Can he actually control an undead with more HD than he has caster levels? 2: If so, can he control more than one undead at a time, or does he lose control of the frst as he gains control of second? Thanks for the help! |

| cwslyclgh03-08-06, 07:01 PM | 1: Can he actually control an undead with more HD than he has caster levels?the spell has no HD limitation on the undead effected (although as undead have a good will save, it is often impractical to attempt it against higher HD intelligent undead). 2: If so, can he control more than one undead at a time, nothing in the rules would prevent this provided he cast the spell seperatly on each creature to be controled or does he lose control of the frst as he gains control of second?nothing in the spell description would support this assertion, so I would have to say no. I see no reason why not. However, according to the 3.5 SRD, control undead only lasts 1 MINUTE per level. he used command undead not control undead...command undead does indeed last 1/day per level... but keep in mind that command undeads control of intelligent undead is no where near absolute... it causes them to treat the commander as friendly (although bear in mind that an undead abombinations idea of what freindship entails is likley to differ somewhat from what you or I would think friendship entails) and any attempt to get them to do something that they would not normaly do (which for most mummies is getting them to do anything other then stand around guarding a tomb or some such) the caster needs to succeed with an opposed charisma check against the mummy. |
