Hi!

I'm a bit confused as to how these spells work. The Commune with Nature is listed as such:
Commune with Nature
Divination
Level: Animal 5, Drd 5, Rgr 4
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Instantaneous

You become one with nature, attaining knowledge of the surrounding territory. You instantly gain knowledge of as many as three facts from among the following subjects: the ground or terrain, plants, minerals, bodies of water, people, general animal population, presence of woodland creatures, presence of powerful unnatural creatures, or even the general state of the natural setting.

In outdoor settings, the spell operates in a radius of 1 mile per caster level. In natural underground settings—caves, caverns, and the like—the radius is limited to 100 feet per caster level. The spell does not function where nature has been replaced by construction or settlement, such as in dungeons and towns.
and the other as:
Commune with Earth
Divination
Level: Clr 5, Drd 5 (dwarf)

As commune with nature, except you instantly gain knowlege of the ground, minerals, bodies of water, people, general animal population, burrowing or subterranean creatures, fungi, and so on. The spell is only effective in hills, mountains, or underground (including mines). The spell operates in a radius of one-half mile per level of the caster and to a depth of one-quater mile per level.
Now to my questions:

Does the caster choose which kind of facts he wants knowledge about?
What exactly covers the term "people"?

Also, if anyone could give me a good example of how this spell is used, that would be really helpful.

Someone asked a similar question in this thread. It is a very vague spell...
