Communicating with the Wood Wose [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-30-04, 08:01 PM I'm looking at the Wood Wose spell in the Complete Divine book (pg. 190).

In your opinion, can the caster "communicate" with the Wood Wose in some way? Even if it entails a certain language, via Telepathy, etc.

It doesn't mention it in the spell's description text.

If you *can* communicate with it, the spell would be nifty for sending the Wood Wose spirit on a short-distance scouting missions.

05-30-04, 09:33 PM Well.....the very first line of the spell description says you can command the Wood Wose to perform simple natural acts. The idea that you can command it, says there is communication there.

It will not work so good as a scout however. The spell is clearly made to do just physical tasks, like the examples given. For scouting you would need some type of two way communication, and the spell does not grant that. It can't tell you want it saw. You could get away with 'Lasse' stuff. Go that way and if you find a oak tree come back, for example. It would have to be 'natural' stuff of course.
Also as a scout it can not go all that far.

Animal Summoning combined with speak with animals is a much better spy.
