This is an item (or transportation method, rather) that I created for the richest city in my campaign setting.

Compedius Street Sled

Transportation takes time and money. With the advent of Elemental Gateways, most issues with transportation are already solved. But when it comes to travelling to areas without Gateways, or journeying through the Industrial Districts in Compedius itself, time is still an issue. This is why the Street Sled was invented.
Only a few companies in Compitum have the assets to construct a fleet of these vehicles, and its rare to see Street Sleds used for anything but business. The only place in Compitum that has over 50 Street Sleds is Compedius, the city in which the vehicle was invented.

Compedius Street Sled: This craft looks vaguely like a chariot. It features two seats, a driver station, and a small trunk. The trunk is actually a modified bag of holding able to contain up to 1000 pounds of cargo. Outside of the trunk, the craft can support up to 700 pounds. A Street Sled has two driving functions: slow maneuvering and speeding.
Slow maneuvering allows the driver to move the vehicle at any speed up to 20 feet per round. Speeding requires the driver to operate the vehicle at atleast 250 feet per round and no more than 400 feet per round. Basically, the Street Sled operates on an enhanced form of Telekinesis; slow maneuvering uses the sustain force aspect of the spell, while speeding is operating off of violent thrust. While in slow maneuvering, the driver can direct the vehicle in any direction (up, down, left, right, etc), but in speeding mode the Street Sled can only move laterally. A ride check (DC 17) is required to avoid most obsticles while in speeding mode. Switching between the two modes is a swift action for the driver.
The vehicle has a special requirement for piloting: each Street Sled is embued with an Elemental Affinity, needing a spell caster with the appropriate affinity to drive it. The Street Sled was designed this way to allow it to pass through Elemental Gateways unharmed without expensive materials such as Adamantine to form the body.

200,000 gp; Major Transumation; CL 20 (can be reached through assisted creation); Craft Woundrous Item, Heighten Spell, Telekinesis

Cool item. I like the flavor.

To be honest the price seems a bit steep for what it does. I have no idea what the price should be , but I cant imagine paying half a million gold for one fo these. If I had to wager a guess I would say about 100K-150K. That would still make it expensive enough that few can afford it, but it wont put it completely out of reach of everyone but the obcenely rich.

Also, I would make it so that you can only switch between the two modes once per round. Otherwise you could pretty much use the fast mode to move and the slow mode to maneuver and you wouldnt really have to spend that much time in the latter to do so effectively.

yeah i'll change the limitations on switching between modes. But the reason its so expensive is that i'm using a heightened fully active telekinesis to give it its ridiculously high speed (in DnD terms, anyway) and a complete freedom to move through the air. It would actually cost over a million to purchase, but the idea is that its only used by the companies that made them. I actually reduced the cost significantly by adding the extra requirements for piloting, and i even buffed the amount the Street Sled could hold (in terms of passengers) over what it would actually be able to use.
I made it a heightened Telekinises to allow it to hold up to 500lbs (rather than maxing out at 375), but then I still didn't think that was enough, so I arbitrarily upped it to 700lbs. If more people say that even though technically it should be ridiculously expensive, that it should be cheaper, then i'll take your suggestion and lower the crafting price.
I also think i'll up the movement per round for speeding mode, because violent thrust doesn't occur over a full round, it only occurs as a standard action that can be used with normal movement....so i think i'll double it.

update: i realized this wasn't nearly as versitile as a full telekinesis since it only affects the vehicle, so i think i'll lower it a bit more.

Keep in mind that the item pricing guidelines should be a last resort for assigning a price to an item. The first thing you need to do is compare the item to items in the DMG and other sources. What you basically have is a beefed up rug of flying that has a higher top speed and a built in bag of holding. Bags of holding are pretty cheap, so that really shouldnt add much to the price. The fly speed is nice, but I still dont think its worth what you are pricing it as. Instead of buying one of these, I could get a Staff of Power and still have 100K left over.
