If someone were casting a spell with damage reduction x and gets injured from an attack, would the concentration check include the damage reduction in calculating concentration DC? At first I thought it would be calculated with damage reduction, since damage reduction says that wounds instantly heal or are just ignored, so the check would be 10+spell lvl+remaining damage, if any. But then I thought, if the damage reduction lowers damage to 0, then the character can just ignore the damage, rendering it ineffective. So then I thought maybe if the damage reduction reduced damage to 0, they won't need to make the check. Then again, I thought, the spellcaster is still being distracted by being attacked, and the damage may still be recieved, just healed very quickly. So then I went back to my first thought, that the spellcaster would still have to make a check of 10+spell lvl only+remaining damage, if any, since there is the distraction of being attacked. Then again, if damage reduction allows the caster to ignore damage as if nothing happened, would he need make a check?

I'm making myself confused.

The concentration check is based on damage you take. Not damage you avoid.

I think that you should still make a concentration roll if the damage was reduce to 0.
It would be the equivalent of a vigourous motion (ie 10+spell level).

What you think it, and what the rules are, are two very different things. Besides, at the point when casters will have DR, they should have more then 9 in Concentration, anyways, so they couldnt fail. Just unnecessary dice rolling.

Yes, you would still make a concentration check, but with no damage modifier to the DC.

Whenever damage reduction completely negates the damage from an attack, it also negates most special effects that accompany the attack, such as injury type poison, a monk’s stunning, and injury type disease. Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains. Nor does it affect poisons or diseases delivered by inhalation, ingestion, or contact.

Attacks that deal no damage because of the target’s damage reduction do not disrupt spells.
